Coronavirus Highlights: India Reports 7,219 New Covid Cases, 25 Deaths

Tamil Nadu on Sunday inoculated 12.28 lakh people against COVID-19 in the 35th mega vaccination exercise held in the state.

A total of 78,337 people received the first dose, 2,91,028 the second jab, while 8,59,628 got the precautionary booster dose, a release said here.

The total number of people who were vaccinated above the age of 18 years with the first dose comprises 96.39 per cent and the second dose 90.61 per cent.

Minister for Health and Family Welfare Ma Subramanian, Principal Health Secretary P Senthil Kumar, inspected the vaccination camps in Chennai along with the Greater Chennai Corporation Mayor Priya Ranjan among others.

The department commenced the mass vaccination programme beginning September 12, 2021 which has been held in over 50,000 camps including primary health centres, government schools, anganwadi centres among others.

According to the press release, 19,76,537 people (93.19 per cent) in the age group of 12-14 years were administered the first dose of vaccination while 14,98,193 (70.64 per cent) second shot.

Chhattisgarh on Sunday reported 17 COVID-19 cases at a positivity rate of 0.95 per cent, taking the tally to 11,74,130, while the death toll remained unchanged at 14,114, an official said.

The recovery count stood at 11,59,296 after 42 people were discharged during the day, leaving the state with 720 active cases, he said.

No coronavirus case was reported in 19 districts of the state, he added.

Tamil Nadu on Sunday registered 470 new coronavirus infections, pushing the aggregate to 35,70,567 while the death count remained unchanged at 38,036.

As many as 494 people recovered in the last 24 hours, aggregating to 35,27,521 leaving 5,010 active cases, a medical bulletin said here.

Chennai and Coimbatore continued to witness marginal increase in daily cases with 84 infections (against 82 on Saturday), Coimbatore 64 while the remaining were scattered across other districts.

Chennai leads among districts with 2,140 active infections and overall 7,87,794 coronavirus cases.

Karnataka on Sunday reported 600 fresh cases of COVID-19 and two deaths, taking the total infected and fatalities till date to 40,54,746 and 40,205 respectively, the Health Department said.

The day saw 589 people getting discharged, taking the total recoveries to 40,09,287 so far, according to a bulletin.

Active cases were totally 5,212, the bulletin said.

Bengaluru urban accounted for the most with 312 cases.

Other districts reported infections in double-digits: 54 in Mysuru, 22 each in Dakshina Kannada, Kodagu and Ramanagar, 19 in Hassan, and 15 in Kolar.

The number vaccinated rose to 11.87 crore with 2,173 people being inoculated today, the bulletin said.

The COVID-19 tally in Madhya Pradesh reached 10,53,638 on Sunday after the detection of 46 fresh cases at a positivity rate of 0.7 per cent, a health official said.

The death count remained unchanged at 10,770, the official added.

The recovery count increased by 79 to touch 10,42,579, leaving the state with 289 active cases, he informed.

With 6,541 samples examined during the day, the number of coronavirus tests in MP went up to 2,99,24,459, he added.

A government release said 12,88,38,969 COVID-19 vaccine doses have been administered so far in the state, including 63 on Sunday.

Gujarat on Sunday reported 186 COVID-19 cases, which took the tally to 12,71,065, an official said.

The death count remained unchanged at 11,016, he added.

The recovery count rose by 174 during the day to touch 12,58,627, leaving the state with 1,422 active cases, the official said.

A government release said 12.40 crore COVID-19 vaccine doses have been administered in the state, including 39,451 during the day.

Surat accounted for 50 of the new cases, followed by Ahmedabad with 46, Vadodara 25, Gandhinagar 11 and Valsad seven cases, among others.

West Bengal logged 181 fresh COVID-19 cases on Sunday, raising the tally to 21,07,888, a health department bulletin said.

One death was reported during the day, which took the toll to 21,473.

As 278 persons recuperated from the infection since Saturday, the total number of people having recovered from the disease went up to 20,84,245.

The positivity rate stood at 2.31 per cent.

West Bengal, as of Sunday, has 2,170 active cases.

As many as 43,252 people were vaccinated during the day.

With the addition of 33 new cases of coronavirus, the tally of infections in Maharashtra's Nashik district reached 4,81,602 on Sunday, an official said.

The death count remained unchanged at 8,904, while the count of recoveries rose to 4,72,514 after 37 patients recovered from the infection during the day, he said.

The district currently has 184 active cases, the official added.

Delhi on Sunday reported 218 fresh COVID-19 cases with a positivity rate of 1.93 per cent, according to data shared by the city health department.

The new cases came out of 11,267 tests conducted the previous day, the department said in its latest bulletin.

With the fresh cases, Delhi's infection tally increased to 20,00,641. The death count remained unchanged at 26,477, it said.

The number of active COVID-19 cases in Delhi stands at 1,172, down from 1,292 the previous day. As many as 832 patients are in home isolation, the bulletin said.

Of the 9,391 beds reserved for COVID-19 patients in various Delhi hospitals, 140 are occupied, it said.

On Saturday, Delhi recorded 236 fresh COVID-19 cases with a positivity rate of 1.68 per cent and three deaths.

Jammu and Kashmir's COVID-19 tally climbed to 4,78,323 on Sunday with 103 fresh cases and the death count increased to 4,783 as one more person succumbed to the disease, officials said.

Of the new cases, 16 were reported from Jammu and 87 from Kashmir, they said.

There are 900 active COVID-19 cases in the union territory, the officials said.

So far, 4,72,640 people have recovered from the disease, they said.

Mumbai on Sunday reported 376 COVID-19 cases and two deaths, which took the metropolis' tally to 11,46,267 and the death count to 19,709, a civic official said.

The recovery count increased by 608 in the last 24 hours and reached 11,23,609, which left the city with 2,949 active cases, he said.

Of the new cases, only 27 are symptomatic, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation official said.

So far, 1,81,24,510 samples have been examined for coronavirus, including 5,798 in the last 24 hours, he added.

The recovery rate stands at 98 per cent, while the overall growth rate of COVID-19 cases between August 28 and September 3 was 0.039 per cent.

The caseload doubling time stood at 1,803 days, as per BMC data.

Puducherry witnessed a marginal dip in the number of fresh COVID-19 cases with 42 people testing positive, a senior official of Department of Health said on Sunday.

The union territory on Saturday reported 47 cases.

Director of Health G Sriramulu in a release said, the 42 cases surfaced after examination of 651 samples in the last 24 hours ending 10 AM today.

While Puducherry region alone reported 36 fresh cases, Karaikal had four and Yanam - two. Mahe, an enclave of Puducherry in Kerala did not record any new case.

The overall caseload was 1,73,023, the Director said.

Mr Sriramulu said the active cases were 265 which comprised 10 patients undergoing treatment in hospitals and the remaining 255 in home quarantine.

He said 55 patients recovered during the last 24 hours and the overall recoveries were 1,70,789.

There was no fresh fatality during the last 24 hours in any of the four regions of Puducherry, Karaikal, Mahe and Yanam. The death count remained at 1,969.

Maharashtra on Sunday recorded 1,205 COVID-19 cases and three deaths, which took the tally to 81,04,854 and toll to 1,48,264, an official said.

Mumbai Circle accounted for 696 new cases, followed by Pune circle with 317, Nashik circle 45, Kolhapur circle 25, Nagpur circle 61, Latur circle 37, Aurangabad circle 19 and Akola circle five, the official said.

The three deaths comprised two in Mumbai circle and one in Nagpur circle, he added.

The recovery count rose by 1,532 in the last 24 hours and reached 79,48,228, leaving the state with an active caseload of 8,364, he said.

Mumbai has 2,949 active cases, followed by 1,882 in Thane and 1,735 in Pune, he added.

Odisha's COVID-19 tally rose to 13,28,465 on Sunday as 221 more people, including 41 children, tested positive for the infection, a health bulletin said.

The toll rose to 9,180 as a 46-year-old man succumbed to the disease in Sambalpur district. Fifty-three other patients have died due to comorbidities so far, it said.

Odisha had recorded 174 infections and a fatality on Saturday.

The state now has 1,740 active COVID-19 cases, while 214 more people recuperated from the disease in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of recoveries to 13,17,492.

The daily positivity rate was at 1.62 per cent.

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Sunday informed that more than 5.58 crore unutilized COVID-19 vaccine doses are still available with the States and Union Territories to be administered, reports news agency ANI.

The Ministry further said that more than 201.88 crore vaccine doses have been provided to States and Union Territories.

"More than 201.88 crore (2,01,88,89,325) vaccine doses have been provided to States/UTs so far through Govt. of India (free of cost channel) and through direct state procurement category," the Ministry said.

"More than 5.58Cr (5,58,87,590) balance and unutilized Covid Vaccine doses are still available with the States/UTs to be administered," it added.

As many as 224 new cases of coronavirus have been detected in Maharashtra's Thane district, taking its tally of infections to 7,42,573, a health official said on Sunday.

With the addition of the latest cases on Saturday, the district currently has 1,992 active COVID-19 cases, he said.

The death count remained unchanged at 11,946, while the recovery count has reached 7,29,161, he added.

West Bengal reported 193 new COVID-19 cases and two deaths due to the disease in the last 24 hours, the state health department said on Saturday.

The tally now stands at 21,07,707 and the number of fatalities at 21,472, a bulletin by the department said, The number of active cases decreased to 2,268 following 283 recoveries.

Till Saturday 20,83,967 people had recovered in West Bengal since the outbreak of COVID-19, the bulletin said..
