Coronavirus Highlights: The Delhi government has allowed bars to open from today as part of relaxations of COVID-19 restrictions in the national capital.

Coronavirus cases: Cumulative cases tally, as of yesterday, stands at 2,98,81,965 (File).

The Bihar Health Department has set up a three-tier committee to compile, verify and update the recording and reporting of Covid-related deaths during the second wave of infections in the state. Formation of the committee comes two days after the Patna High Court expressed its displeasure over the existing system, which it slammed as "opaque".

India reported 53,256 new COVID-19 cases today, its fewest in 88 days as the second wave of infections appear to be ebbing. From today, the centre, reversing a policy change, will provide vaccines free of charge to all above 18.

Uttar Pradesh Records 46 More COVID-19 Deaths, 213 New Cases
With 46 more COVID-19 fatalities in Uttar Pradesh, the death count in the state rose to 22,224, while the total number of cases reached 17,04,476 with 213 fresh cases, a government health bulletin said on Monday, according to news agency PTI.

Of the 46 new deaths, Prayagraj reported 15 and Lucknow (12), the bulletin said. Of the 213 fresh cases, 17 each were reported from Lucknow, Varanasi and Gautam Buddh Nagar, while 12 cases each were reported from Meerut and Muzaffarnagar.

In the past 24 hours, 478 patients recovered from the disease and were discharged, taking the total number of recoveries so far to 16,78,089, the bulletin said. There are currently 4,163 active COVID-19 cases in the state, it said.

42% Of Himachal Pradesh's Population Vaccinated: Chief Minister Jairam Thakur
Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jairam Thakur said vaccination for the 18-45 group has started in the state and they're aiming to administer at least 1 lakh doses per day, though the target is 1.15 lakh doses, according to news agency ANI. "So far 27.35 lakh doses have been administered in the state, covering 42% of the population," he said.

"There is no shortage of vaccines, about 5 lakh doses available at present. By June 25, we are aiming to have 100% population vaccinated with the first dose in tribal areas like Lahaul-Spiti, and other areas," said Mr Thakur.

"Expect Better Availability Of Vaccines Now": Chhattisgarh Health Minister
Chhattisgarh Health Minister TS Singh Deo said on Monday, "Now we can expect to have better availability of vaccines. If we have all the stock to vaccinate the 18+ age group, we would want to administer at least 1 lakh doses per day," according to news agency ANI.

"Earlier, for 18-44 age group we had only three-day stock. The (previous) policy led to a situation where despite vaccine availability, people were not vaccinated. But now, we are expecting more vaccines," he said. "Vaccine wastage is 0.95%, as opposed to 30% wastage presented in reports."

Telangana Logs 1,197 New Covid Cases, 9 Deaths In Last 24 Hours
Telangana reported 1,197 new COVID-19 cases, 1,707 recoveries and nine deaths in the last 24 hours, reported news agency ANI. As per the state health bulletin, the state logged 6,14,399 total cases, including 17,246 active cases and 5,93,577 total recoveries. The total death count surged to 3,576 including the new deaths. On Sunday, Telangana had reported 1,006 new COVID-19 cases, pushing the cumulative count of people infected with the virus to 6,13,202. With 1,798 recoveries over the last 24 hours, the overall recoveries in the state have reached 5,91,870, while death count has climbed to 3,567 as 11 people succumbed to the virus during this period.

Sikkim Reports 25 New Covid Cases In 24 Hours With No Fatalities
Sikkim's Covid tally rose to 19,321 on Monday as 25 people tested positive for the infection, a health bulletin said, reported news agency PTI.

The Himalayan state, however, reported zero fatalities due to coronavirus in the last 24 hours.

The number of COVID-19 deaths in the state stands at 293, the bulletin said.

East Sikkim registered the highest number of new cases at 17, followed by four in South Sikkim and two each in West Sikkim and North Sikkim.

There are now 2,448 active cases in Sikkim, while 16,329 people have recovered from the disease and 251 patients have migrated to other states.

Sikkim's Covid positivity rate stands at 14.5 per cent, while the recovery rate among the coronavirus patients has shot to 84.5 per cent.

Assam Exceeds Enhanced Vaccination Target On Opening Day
Assam crossed its target of vaccinating three lakh people daily by reaching out to 3,19,340 eligible beneficiaries above the age of 18 on the first day of the enhanced "Free Vaccination For All Campaign" Monday, reported news agency PTI.

The number of inoculated people is likely to go up further as the campaign continued till 8 pm, while the data provided included beneficiaries who received the jab till 7 pm, Director National Health Mission, Assam Dr Lakshmanan S said.

Maharashtra Reports 6,270 Covid Cases - Lowest In 4 Months, 94 Deaths In 24 Hours
Maharashtra today reported 6,270 new coronavirus cases, a four-month low, taking its Covid tally to 59,79,051, while 94 deaths pushed the death count to 1,18,313, the state health department said, reported news agency PTI.

The infection count was the lowest since February 23 when 6218 cases were reported. Maharashtra had recorded 6,971 cases on February 21.

As many as 13,758 patients were discharged during the day, taking the number of recovered cases to 57,33,215, a statement from the health department said.

Punjab Logs 340 New Covid Cases, 24 Deaths In 24 Hours
Punjab today registered 340 fresh cases of coronavirus, taking the infection tally to 5,92,658, while 24 more fatalities pushed the death count to 15,854, according to a medical bulletin, reported news agency PTI.

The number of active cases stood at 6,477, it said.

Deaths were reported from several districts including Barnala, Faridkot, Fazilka, Gurdaspur, Hoshiarpur, Jalandhar and Ludhiana.

Bathinda and Jalandhar reported 33 infections each, followed by 30 in Muktsar, among the fresh cases.

The state's positivity rate stood at 0.79 per cent, it said.

121 Active Covid Cases In Noida, 80 In Ghaziabad
Uttar Pradesh's Gautam Buddh Nagar recorded 17 new Covid cases today while neighbouring Ghaziabad had just two new infections, official data showed, reported news agency PTI.

The number of active cases in Gautam Buddh Nagar now stands at 121 while it was 80 in Ghaziabad, according to Uttar Pradesh's Health Department data for a 24-hour period.

The death count from the pandemic stood at 461 in Ghaziabad and 466 in Gautam Buddh Nagar, the data showed.

Over 6 Lakh Administered Anti-Covid Vaccine On Yoga Day In Haryana: Anil Vij
A mega anti-Covid vaccination drive was conducted in Haryana on International Yoga Day today with 6.27 lakh people receiving their jabs, state Health Minister Anil Vij said, reported news agency PTI.

Gujarat Records 151 New Covid Cases, 2 Deaths In 24 Hours
Gujarat reported 151 new Covid cases today, taking the overall tally to 8,22,485, while 619 patients recovered from the infection, the state health department said, reported news agency PTI.

With two deaths, the number of Covid fatalities in the state rose to 10,034, it said.

A total of 619 patients were discharged during the day, pushing the count of recovered cases in Gujarat to 8,06,812, said the department in a release. With this, the state's recovery rate rose to 98.09 per cent, the release said.

Nitish Kumar Launches Mega Drive To Inoculate 6 Crore People In Six Months
Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today launched an ambitious mega drive to inoculate 60 million people in the state against coronavirus within six months, reported news agency PTI.

The campaign, inaugurated by the chief minister virtually, will entail administering the jabs to at least "3.30 lakh people daily" at 6,000 vaccination centres across the state.

Arunachal Pradesh today launched the Tika Maha Abhiyan - an initiative to administer coronavirus vaccine free of cost to everyone above 18 years of age in the next few months, reported news agency PTI.

"Well Done India": PM Modi On Record Number Of Covid Vaccinations Today
Prime Minister Narendra Modi today reiterated that "the vaccine remains our strongest weapon" in the fight against coronavirus as India administered over 75 lakh vaccine doses on Day One of the Centre's new vaccine regime.

"Today's record-breaking vaccination numbers are gladdening. The vaccine remains our strongest weapon to fight COVID-19," PM Modi tweeted, adding, "Congratulations to those who got vaccinated and kudos to all the front-line warriors working hard to ensure so many citizens got the vaccine.
