New Delhi: New cases of coronavirus infection in India were recorded over 2.40 lakh, taking the total tally of COVID-19 cases to 2,65,30,132 according to the Union Health Ministry data.
The COVID-19 active caseload is 28,05,399 which now comprises 10.57 per cent of the total infections.
The recovery rate is 88.30 per cent, the data stated.
A total of 2,40,842 new infections were registered in a day, while the death count increased to 2,99,266 with 3,741 daily new fatalities, the data updated at 8 am showed.
Meanwhile, nearly 9,000 people have been infected with mucormycosis or Black Fungus across the country, Union Minister Sadananda Gowda said today. In view of the rapid surge, the government has sent over 23,000 additional vials of a key drug used for the treatment of the fungal infection to the affected states, he added.

West Bengal Records Less Than 20,000 Covid Cases, 156 Deaths
West Bengal recorded 18,422 fresh coronavirus cases and 156 deaths due to the disease today. The fresh coronavirus cases stayed less than 20,000, for the ninth day in a row.
However, Black Fungus still remains a cause of concern for the state. A suspected patient of Black Fungus disease died at a state hospital in Kolkata on Saturday.

Ramdev's Withdrawal Of Remarks Against Allopathy Shows His Maturity: Minister
Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan said on Sunday that the way yoga guru Ramdev withdrew his statements against allopathic medicine and halted the controversy over the issue is laudable and shows his maturity.
Taking to Twitter, Mr Vardhan tweeted in Hindi: "The way yoga guru Ramdev withdrew his statements against allopathic medicine and halted the controversy over the issue is laudable and shows his maturity. We have to show the world how the people of India have faced COVID-19. Of course, our victory is certain!"
Ramdev withdrew his statements on allopathic medicine after receiving a strongly-worded letter from Mr Vardhan, who called his remarks "inappropriate".

West Bengal records 156 new COVID-19 deaths, 18,422 cases
West Bengal reported 156 more COVID-19 fatalities, pushing the count to 14,364, while the case tally mounted to 12,67,090 with 18,422 new cases, the health department said in a bulletin. The state now has 1,30,525 active cases and 11,22,201 people have recovered from the disease, including 19,429 since Saturday.

Chhattisgarh records 3,306 new COVID-19 cases, 92 deaths
Chhattisgarh reported 3,306 new coronavirus positive cases and 92 deaths, taking the state's infection count to 9,49,000 and count to 12,586, a health official said. The number of recoveries reached to 8,70,640 after a total of 741 people were discharged from various hospitals, while 6,491 others completed their home isolation during the day. The number of active cases in the state stands at 65,774, the official said.

Centre should put out district-wise data of daily inoculations: Congress
The Congress has claimed that there is a shortage of COVID-19 vaccines in the country and asked the Centre to put out district-wise data of those inoculated as state-wise data "hides" many facts. It also alleged that the manner in which the Centre has handled the entire vaccine issue is anything but cooperative federalism.

Goa records 1,621 new COVID-19 cases, 42 deaths
Goa's coronavirus caseload went up by 1,621 and reached 1,46,460, a health department official said. The COVID-19 death count mounted to 2,383 after 42 more patients died due to the infection during the day, he said. The number of recoveries in Goa rose to 1,26,800 with 2,545 patients being discharged. Goa is now left with 17,277 active cases, the official said.

COVID-19 fatalities in Jharkhand plunge to lowest in May at 41
Amid declining trend in COVID-19 deaths in Jharkhand that recorded 41 fatalities in the last 24 hours, Chief Minister Hemant Soren said that partial lockdown in the state and strictures have resulted in success of the struggle against coronavirus. The government is not hesitating in taking tough decisions, if needed, and is focussing on protecting rural areas after breaking the chain of transmission of the virus in urban areas, Mr Soren said.
