Coronavirus India Highlights: India Reports 45,982 New COVID-19 Cases, 817 Deaths In Last 24 Hours

COVID-19 Cases in India: The death count has climbed to 4,05,028 with 817 new fatalities being reported.

New Delhi:

India recorded a single-day rise of 45,892 new COVID-19 cases, taking its infection tally to 3,07,09,557, while the count of active cases increased slightly to 4,60,704 after being on a consistent downward trend for nearly 55 days, according to the Union Health Ministry on Thursday.

The death count has climbed to 4,05,028 with 817 new fatalities being reported.

The number of active cases comprises 1.50 per cent of the total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate stands at 97.18 per cent, data updated by the ministry at 8 am showed.

An increase of 784 cases has been recorded in the active COVID-19 caseload in a span of 24 hours, it showed.

Also, 18,93,800 COVID-19 tests were conducted in the country on Wednesday, taking the total number of such examinations so far to 42,52,25,897, while the daily positivity rate was recorded at 2.42 per cent. It has been less than three per cent for 17 consecutive days, the ministry said.

The weekly positivity rate has declined to 2.37 per cent, according to the health ministry.

The number of people who have recuperated from the disease surged to 2,98,43,825, while the case fatality rate stands at 1.32 per cent, the data stated.

Meanwhile, more than four million people have now died of Covid-19 infections, the WHO said on Wednesday, as many richer nations prepared to loosen restrictions even as countries in Asia battle surging infections.

Indonesia has become a global hotspot, with hospitals having to turn away patients, authorities forced to import oxygen supplies and a record 1,040 deaths reported on Wednesday.

"The world is at a perilous point in this pandemic," said WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, calling the four-million figure an underestimate of the true figure.

Bangladesh logs 199 COVID-19 fatalities in 24 hours, daily caseload rises to 11,651

Bangladesh coronavirus situation continues to worsen as the daily caseload hit a new high again on Thursday in 24 hours with 11,651 infections and 119 COVID-19 fatalities.

As per Dhaka Tribune, the daily infection rate climbed to 31.62 per cent, the government ordered local administrations across the country to ramp up oxygen supply and increase hospital capacity.

The health authorities reported 11,651 new infections in the 24 hours to Thursday morning surpassing the previous peak of 11,525 on Tuesday. The total caseload now stands at 966,406.

Brazil reports 1,639 more COVID-19 deaths

Brazil registered 1,639 more deaths from COVID-19 in the past 24 hours, bringing the national deaths to 5,30,179, the health ministry said Thursday.

A total of 53,725 new infections were detected, raising the total caseload to 18,962,762, the ministry said.

Brazil has the worlds second-highest COVID-19 death toll, after the United States, and the third-largest caseload, following the United States and India.

14 out of 90 districts reporting 80 pc Covid cases in India in northeastern states: Government

Eighty percent of COVID-19 cases in India are reported from 90 districts of which 14 are in the northeastern states, the Union Health Ministry said on Thursday and underlined that "the second wave is not yet over and we should not let our guard down".

Highlighting specific challenges linked to the northeastern states, Joint Secretary in the Union Health Ministry, Lav Agarwal, said the Government of India has supported these states by following a "proactive, preemptive and a graded approach" to fight the COVID-19 pandemic.

Mr Agarwal was speaking at a workshop organised by the Union Health Ministry in partnership with UNICEF for media professionals and health correspondents of northeastern states on the current coronavirus situation in India, the need to bust myths about vaccines and vaccination and to reinforce the importance of COVID-19-appropriate behaviour.

Uttarakhand reports its first case of Delta Plus Covid variant

Uttarakhand has reported its first case of Delta Plus mutant of COVID-19 with one person having tested positive for the variant in Udham Singh Nagar district.

The person who tested positive for the variant has already returned to Lucknow from where he had come to Dineshpur in the district to his uncle's place, Additional Chief Medical Officer of Udham Singh Nagar Avinash Khanna said.

The couple of areas he had visited during his stay in Dineshpur in the district have been converted into containment zones, Mr Khanna said.

COVID-19 India News: Madhya Pradesh Reports 26 New Cases, 4 More Deaths
Madhya Pradesh on Thursday reported 26 fresh COVID-19 cases, which pushed its infection tally to 7,90,096, health officials said, according to news agency PTI. The state's fatality count reached 9,023 with four deaths recorded in the past 24 hours. The number of active COVID-19 cases in the state stands at 416.

A total of 47 patients were discharged from hospitals in the last 24 hours, taking the recovery count in Madhya Pradesh to 7,80,657, they said. Bhopal and Indore reported 10 and five new cases respectively. With this, the caseload in Indore reached 1,52,902, while that in Bhopal rose to 1,23,203.

COVID-19 India News: Karnataka Logs 2,530 New Cases, 62 More Deaths
Karnataka logged 2,530 new cases of COVID-19 and 62 deaths, pushing the total number of infections to 28,64,868 and death count to 35,663, the health department said on Thursday, reported news agency PTI. The day also saw 3,344 discharges, taking the total number of recoveries to 27,90,453. Active cases in the state now stood at 38,729.

Bengaluru Urban recorded 514 new cases, as the city saw 753 discharges and 9 deaths. While the positivity rate for the day stood at 1.60%, case fatality rate (CFR) was at 2.45%.

COVID-19 India News: Jammu And Kashmir Records 262 Fresh Cases, 4 More Deaths
With 262 fresh cases, Jammu and Kashmir's COVID-19 tally climbed to 3,18,023 on Thursday, while four more fatalities pushed the death count due to the viral disease to 4,353 in the Union Territory, officials said, according to news agency PTI. Of the fresh cases, 120 were from the Jammu division and 142 from the Kashmir division, they added.

The number of active coronavirus cases in the Union Territory has dropped to 3,344, while 3,10,326 patients have recovered so far, they added. The death count due to the pandemic has climbed to 4,353 in Jammu and Kashmir as four more patients died in the last 24 hours. Officials said there are 31 confirmed cases of Mucormycosis (Black Fungus) in the Union Territory.

COVID-19 Latest News: Nearly 37 Crore Vaccine Doses Administered In India So Far, Says Centre
The cumulative COVID-19 vaccine doses administered in the country has reached nearly 37 crore, the Union Health Ministry said on Thursday, reported news agency PTI. The new phase of universalization of COVID-19 vaccination commenced from June 21. More than 36.08 lakh (36,08,940) vaccine doses have been administered on Thursday, according to the 7 pm provisional report. The ministry said 17,93,389 vaccine doses were administered as first dose and 1,71,647 vaccine doses given as second dose in the 18-44 age group on Thursday.

Cumulatively, 10,82,14,937 people in the age group of 18-44 years across states and UTs have received their first dose and a total 33,70,920 have received their second dose since the start of phase-3 of the vaccination drive. Eight states -- Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Bihar, Gujarat, Karnataka and Maharashtra -- have administered more than 50 lakh first doses in the 18-44 age group.

COVID-19 India News: Telangana Adds 731 New Cases, 4 More Deaths
Telangana on Thursday recorded 731 fresh coronavirus cases taking the tally to over 6.29
lakh while the death count stood at 3,714 with four casualties, reported news agency PTI. The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) accounted for the highest number of cases with 80 followed by Khammam 64 and Nalgonda 56 districts, a state government bulletin said.

The number of active cases was11,206. The total number of cases in the state stood at 6,29,785, while with 993 people being cured, the total recoveries are 6,14,865. Over 1.02 lakh samples were tested on Thursday. Cumulatively, over 1.94 crore samples have been tested. The samples tested per million population were over 5.23 lakh, the bulletin said.

The case fatality rate in the state was 0.58%, while it was 1.3% at the national level. The recovery rate in Telangana was 97.63%. It was 97.14% in the country.

COVID-19 India News: Rajasthan Records 69 Fresh Cases, No New Death
The Covid tally in Rajasthan reached 9,52,956 with 69 fresh cases, while the death count stood at 8,942 as no new fatality was reported in the state, according to a health bulletin, reported news agency PTI. Of the fresh cases, a maximum of 15 cases were reported from Jaipur and 12 from Alwar, among others. As many as 9,43,190 people have recovered from the infection, while there are 824 active cases in the state.
