Coronavirus India Cases: 28,39,882 patients have recovered from the infection in the country.

Coronavirus India Live Updates: India now has over 36.91 lakh coronavirus cases, after 69,921 infections were reported in the last 24 hours. 28,39,882 patients have recovered from the infection in the country.

In the last 24 hours, 819 Covid-linked deaths were reported,  pushing the total death count to 65,288.

Maharashtra remains the state hit hardest by the pandemic, with 7,92,541 COVID -19 cases, including 24,583 deaths. Maharashttra is followed by three southern states - Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. India is the country with the third-highest coronavirus caseload in the world after the United States and Brazil.

Global coronavirus infections have soared past 2.54 crore, as countries tighten restrictions to halt the health crisis that has upended life for most of humanity.

The US remains the country hit hardest by far by the health crisis gripping the world, with 1,83,203 deaths, the Baltimore-based university's tracker showed.

Europe crosses four million coronavirus cases: Report

More than four million people have been infected with the coronavirus in Europe, according to a tally by AFP at 1640 GMT Tuesday using official data from across the continent.

In total, there have been 4,006,077 cases, with Russia, Spain and Britain recording the highest number of infections, while 216,080 people have died and 2,281,959 have recovered, the data showed.

Coronavirus cases in Maharashtra cross eight lakh-mark

Maharashtra reported 15,765 new cases of coronavirus infection, taking the case count in the state to 8,08,306, said a health official.

With 320 new deaths, the death count due to the pandemic reached 24,903.

The number of active cases in the state is 1,98,523 while 10,978 patients were discharged from hospitals during the day, taking the number of recovered cases to 5,84,537.

Mumbai recorded 1,142 new cases and 35 deaths. The total number of COVID-19 cases in the city rose to 1,46,947 and death count to 7,693.

Haryana records 17 deaths, 1,694 new coronavirus cases

Seventeen more people died from coronavirus in Haryana as the state reported a record daily spike in cases for the second consecutive day with 1,694 new infections.

The state had reported its highest single-day spike in cases on Monday with 1,450 infections.

So far, the state has recorded 706 deaths and 66,426 cases, according to a Health Department bulletin.

Ruling BJP's Jind MLA Krishan Middha is among those who contracted the infection today. "I have been found COVID positive," he said in a video message while appealing to all those who came in his contact to get themselves tested.

Two more MLAs test COVID-19 positive in Odisha

Two more MLAs in Odisha have tested positive for COVID-19 in Odisha, raising the number of lawmakers infected with the disease to 16 in the state.

Bari MLA Sunanda Das, who tested positive for the viral infection, on twitter said: "I have tested Covid positive. Now I am in home isolation and stable. Those who have come in contact with me in the last few days are requested to get themselves tested if required."

Susant Kumar Rout, first time legislator from Bhubaneswar-North, said that he was also under home isolation and his condition was stable.

Tamil Nadu records 5,928 new COVID-19 cases

Tamil Nadu reported 5,928 new COVID cases pushing the count to 4,33,969, while the death count stood at 7,418 with 96 more deaths.

With 6,031 recoveries, the active cases stood at 52,379 and in total 3,74,172 people have been cured, a health department bulletin said.

Out of the over 5,900 new infections, the state capital shared 1,084 and the remainder was scattered across Tamil Nadu.

Jammu and Kashmir records 525 new COVID-19 cases

Jammu and Kashmir recorded 14 more COVID-19 deaths today, taking the death count to 717, while 525 new cases pushed the infection count in the Union territory to 38,223, officials said.

They said 241 new cases of the infection were detected in Jammu region and 284 were from the Kashmir Valley.

Schools, colleges reopen after months of COVID-19 lockdown in England

Wearing masks, hundreds of thousands of children and young people across England returned to their classes at schools and colleges after over five months of lockdown imposed to curb the spread of the coronavirus.

Students were seen queuing up outside their schools ahead of their classes, as new rules are in place to stop the spread of COVID-19.

The Department for Education earlier said pupils will return to school environments with a "system of controls" in place to keep all students, teachers and staff safe by minimising direct contacts and maintaining social distancing wherever possible.

Delhi records highest daily rise in COVID-19 cases in 2 months

Delhi has recorded 2,312 fresh COVID-19 cases, the highest single-day spike in around two months, taking the count to over 1.77 lakh, while the death count mounted to 4,462, authorities said.

According to the bulletin issued by the Delhi health department, 18 deaths have been recorded in the last 24 hours.

On July 1 and July 2, the city had recorded 2,442 and 2,373 cases respectively. On July 3-4, the single-day spikes were over 2,500. It had dipped to 2,244 on July 5, according to official figures.

India registers 65,081 recoveries in a day, recovery rate stands at 77%: Centre

India registered 65,081 recoveries in the last 24 hours, taking the cumulative number of recovered patients to 28,39,882 and the recovery rate among COVID-19 patients to further high of 77 per cent, said Ministry of Health and Family Welfare today.

The number of recovered patients has overtaken the active cases by 3.61 times, the ministry said.

Meanwhile, India's cumulative COVID-19 tests crossed 4.3 crores on Tuesday, 1,22,66,514 tests were done in the last two weeks alone, it said.

Andhra government hires over 1,350 ambulances to cope with COVID-19 workload

Over 1,350 ambulances have been hired by the Andhra Pradesh government in 13 districts to cope with the increased COVID-19 workload, a statement from the state health department said.

"It is mandatory for collectors to hire at least two additional ambulances per mandal. If necessary, collectors have been given the right to hire as many as needed, depending on the workload. In certain mandals, even 5-6 additional ambulances have been hired in order to provide better services to the citizens," it added.

Germany can avoid imposing a second lockdown over the coronavirus pandemic, the economy minister said Tuesday, voicing confidence that measures in place to limit transmission can keep case numbers under control.

All 13 members have tested negative for COVID-19: Chennai Super Kings CEO

All 13 members of the Chennai Super Kings contingent, who tested positive for COVID-19 early last week, have come out negative in the latest tests, the IPL team's CEO KS Viswanathan said today.

India seamer Deepak Chahar and India A batsman Ruturaj Gaikwad were among the 13 who tested positive for COVID-19 and are in a 14-day quarantine.

"Yes, all 13 members have tested negative for COVID-19. They will have to undergo another test on Thursday, September 3. We are likely to start training on Friday, September 4," Mr Viswanathan said from Dubai where the team is based right now.

Third round of sero-survey begins in Delhi 

Delhi's third round of monthly sero-prevalence survey began today to analyse the COVID-19 situation in Delhi, Health Minister Satyendar Jain said.

In the serological survey, blood samples of the people are taken to check for the presence of antibodies for COVID-19 in their body. If the report comes positive for antibodies, it proves that those patients had been infected but have been cured of the viral infection.

The sample size this time will be 17,000 and the exercise will be carried out for seven to ten days.

Spain concerned over rise in coronavirus infections in Madrid

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez says his government is concerned about a spike in coronavirus infections in the capital Madrid.

"We are worried about the state of public health and the evolution of the virus in Madrid," Sanchez said in an interview.

Spain registered over 23,000 new Covid-19 cases since Friday, health emergency chief Fernando Simon told a news conference on Monday, bringing the total to 462,858.

Of the 1,656 hospitalisations from the disease during the last seven days, 420, or 25 percent, were in Madrid, according to health ministry figures.

Five states report maximum new COVID-19 cases in a day: Health Ministry

The Health Ministry said that five states -- Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh -- have registered the highest number of COVID-19 cases in 24 hours.

The five states have reported 536 deaths which accounts for 65.4 per cent of the deaths added to the national total mortality (819).

According to the health ministry, Maharashtra has reported 11,852 new coronavirus cases, Andhra Pradesh reported 10,004, Karnataka recorded 6,495, Tamil Nadu had 5,956 and Uttar Pradesh recorded 4,782 in the past 24 hours. Together they account for 56 per cent of the confirmed cases added in the last 24 hours.
