India logged 34,973 new coronavirus infections taking the total tally of COVID-19 cases to 3,31,74,954, while the active cases declined to 3,90,646, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Friday.
The number of deaths climbed to 4,42,009 with 260 fresh fatalities, according to the data updated at 8 am.
The active cases comprise 1.18 per cent of the total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate was recorded at 97.49 per cent, the ministry said.
India's COVID-19 tally had crossed the 20-lakh mark on August 7, 2020, 30 lakh on August 23, 40 lakh on September 5 and 50 lakh on September 16. It went past 60 lakh on September 28, 70 lakh on October 11, crossed 80 lakh on October 29, 90 lakh on November 20 and surpassed the one-crore mark on December 19.
India crossed the grim milestone of two crore on May 4 and three crore on June 23.

Delhi reported 36 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours, reported ANI. A Delhi government health bulletin said that the number of active cases in the metropolis is 399 and the test positivity rate stands at 0.05 per cent. It said 52 people recovered from the disease and the total number of recoveries has gone up to 14,12,672. The total count of reported COVID-19 cases is 14,38,154.
No fatality has been reported due to the disease in the last 24 hours and the death count stands at 25,083. The bulletin said 76,883 tests were done in the last 24 hours out of which 52,042 were RT-PCR tests and 24,841 were rapid antigen tests. It said 1,53,515 beneficiaries got vaccinated in the last 24 hours of which, 1,01,224 got their first dose and 52,291 got the second dose.
Mumbai on Friday reported 441 new COVID-19 cases and five related deaths, taking the tally of infections in the city to 7,34,337 and death count to 16,011, a civic official said, reported PTI. The discharge of 175 people during the day took the recovery count in the city to 7,11,322, which is 97 per cent of the overall case tally. The country's financial capital has 4,537 active cases now. On Thursday, the city had reported 458 cases and six deaths. With 49,921 samples being examined in the last 24 hours, the number of coronavirus tests conducted so far went up to 96,50,174, showed Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation data. The caseload doubling time is now 1,198 days, and the average growth rate of cases between September 3 and 9 was 0.6 per cent.
Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh announced on Friday that state government employees failing to take even the first dose of Covid vaccine for any reason other than medical will be compulsorily sent on leave after September 15.
Kerala on Friday logged 25,010 new COVID-19 cases and 177 deaths, taking the caseload to 43,34,704 and the number of deaths to 22,303.
Among the districts, Thrissur reported the highest number of fresh cases today--3,226, followed by Ernakulam with 3,034 and Malappuram 2,606.
