India logged 34,973 new coronavirus infections taking the total tally of COVID-19 cases to 3,31,74,954, while the active cases declined to 3,90,646, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Friday.
The number of deaths climbed to 4,42,009 with 260 fresh fatalities, according to the data updated at 8 am.
The active cases comprise 1.18 per cent of the total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate was recorded at 97.49 per cent, the ministry said.
India's COVID-19 tally had crossed the 20-lakh mark on August 7, 2020, 30 lakh on August 23, 40 lakh on September 5 and 50 lakh on September 16. It went past 60 lakh on September 28, 70 lakh on October 11, crossed 80 lakh on October 29, 90 lakh on November 20 and surpassed the one-crore mark on December 19.
India crossed the grim milestone of two crore on May 4 and three crore on June 23.

COVID-19 India News: Delhi Reports 36 New Cases, Zero Death
Delhi reported 36 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours, reported ANI. A Delhi government health bulletin said that the number of active cases in the metropolis is 399 and the test positivity rate stands at 0.05 per cent. It said 52 people recovered from the disease and the total number of recoveries has gone up to 14,12,672. The total count of reported COVID-19 cases is 14,38,154.
No fatality has been reported due to the disease in the last 24 hours and the death count stands at 25,083. The bulletin said 76,883 tests were done in the last 24 hours out of which 52,042 were RT-PCR tests and 24,841 were rapid antigen tests. It said 1,53,515 beneficiaries got vaccinated in the last 24 hours of which, 1,01,224 got their first dose and 52,291 got the second dose.

Mumbai on Friday reported 441 new COVID-19 cases and five related deaths, taking the tally of infections in the city to 7,34,337 and death count to 16,011, a civic official said, reported PTI. The discharge of 175 people during the day took the recovery count in the city to 7,11,322, which is 97 per cent of the overall case tally. The country's financial capital has 4,537 active cases now. On Thursday, the city had reported 458 cases and six deaths. With 49,921 samples being examined in the last 24 hours, the number of coronavirus tests conducted so far went up to 96,50,174, showed Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation data. The caseload doubling time is now 1,198 days, and the average growth rate of cases between September 3 and 9 was 0.6 per cent.

Kerala Reports 25,010 New Coronavirus Cases, 177 Deaths
Kerala on Friday logged 25,010 new COVID-19 cases and 177 deaths, taking the caseload to 43,34,704 and the number of deaths to 22,303.
Among the districts, Thrissur reported the highest number of fresh cases today--3,226, followed by Ernakulam with 3,034 and Malappuram 2,606.

Coronavirus India Updates: No COVID-19 case in 33 districts of Uttar Pradesh
The Uttar Pradesh government on Friday said there are no active cases of COVID-19 in 33 districts of the state.
The state government also informed that the 67 districts have not reported any new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours.
The 33 districts, which have become Covid-19 free -- Aligarh, Amroha, Ayodhya, Baghpat, Ballia, Balrampur, Banda, Basti, Bahraich, Bijnor, Bhadohi, Chitrakoot, Chandauli, Etah, Deoria, Fatehpur, Ghazipur, Gonda, Hamirpur, Hapur, Hardoi, Hathras, Kasganj, Lalitpur, Mahoba, Moradabad, Muzaffarnagar, Pilibhit, Rampur, Saharanpur, Shamli, Siddharth Nagar, and Sonbhadra.
The positivity rate in the state has come down to less than 0.01 per cent and the recovery rate is at 98.7 per cent.

Coronavirus LIVE Updates: Mizoram reports over 1,000 new Covid cases for 4th consecutive day
Mizoram reported over 1,000 fresh COVID-19 cases for the fourth consecutive day on Friday as 1,055 more people, including 185 children, tested positive, taking the tally in the state to 69,026, a health department official said.
The death toll rose to 231 as one more person succumbed to the disease, he said.
The daily infection rate was at 10.77 per cent, as the new cases were detected from 9,799 sample tests.
Two fresh patients have travel history and the remaining 1,053 were found to have contracted the infection locally, he said.
The northeastern state had registered 1,061 new cases on Thursday, 1,214 on Wednesday and 1,468 on Tuesday.
Aizawl reported the highest number of new cases at 570, followed by Lawngtlai at 115 and Kolasib at 96, he said.

Covid vaccines highly effective in preventing hospitalisations, emergency visits: US study
Complete vaccination against COVID-19 is highly effective at preventing hospitalisation, emergency department visit, and intensive care admission due to infection with the virus, according to a study involving data from nearly 200 hospitals around the US.
The real-world evidence, published in the New England Journal of Medicine on Thursday, was gathered from electronic health records (EHRs) which demonstrate that the vaccines provide high levels of protection for populations disproportionately affected by the virus.
The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) collaborated with six US healthcare systems plus the Regenstrief Institute, to create the VISION network to assess COVID-19 vaccine effectiveness.
All these institutes contributed hospitalisation and ICU data for patients older than 50 years of age from a total of 187 hospitals, in addition to data from emergency departments and urgent care clinics.

Coronavirus Updates: Auckland Covid cases drop again as New Zealand presses on with Delta curbs
New Zealand reported 11 new cases of COVID-19 on Friday, all in locked down Auckland, its biggest city, as the country looks to limit the spread of the highly transmissible Delta variant of the coronavirus.
The latest daily number was down from the 13 infections recorded on Thursday and the lowest any day this week, taking the total number of infections from the current outbreak, which started in mid-August, to 879.
The government will decide on Monday whether the tight lockdown in Auckland would be eased or extended.
"I absolutely understand people in Auckland wanting to see the alert levels come down. They have been doing it tough," Deputy Prime Minister Grant Robertson said at a news conference.

Australia's COVID-19 daily cases topped 1,900 for the first time in the pandemic on Friday as an outbreak fuelled by the highly infectious Delta variant continued to gain ground in locked-down Sydney and Melbourne, its largest cities.

COVID-19: 3 more coronavirus cases reported in Ladakh
Ladakh recorded three new COVID-19 cases, taking the tally to 20,596 while the active cases in the Union territory has come down to 40, officials said on Friday.
Ladakh has registered 207 COVID-related deaths -- 149 in Leh and 58 in Kargil -- since the outbreak of the pandemic last year.
Two patients of coronavirus were cured and discharged from hospitals on Sunday, thereby taking the tally of cured patients to 20,349, which accounts for over 98 per cent recoveries, they said.
All three new cases were reported in Leh, they said. A total of 1,709 sample reports in Ladakh, including 706 from Leh and 1,003 from Kargil, were found negative, they said.
There was no death reported due to COVID-19 in Ladakh on Thursday.

With the addition of 286 new coronavirus cases, the infection count in Thane district of Maharashtra rose to 5,53,920, an official said on Friday.
These new cases were reported on Thursday, he said.
Three more patients succumbed to the infection, pushing the death toll in the district to 11,333, the official said.
In neighbouring Palghar district, the COVID-19 count was 1,34,992, while the death toll stood at 3,294, another official said.

Coronavirus news: Goa records 79 new coronavirus cases
Goa's coronavirus caseload went up by 79 and reached 1,74,725 on Thursday, while no fresh death due to the infection was reported in the state, a health department official said.
The death count remained unchanged at 3,212, PTI reported.
