New Delhi:
India recorded more than 40,000 fresh COVID-19 cases, while its active caseload fell below 4,00,000 today, according to Union health ministry data.
India recorded 43,654 new coronavirus infections that pushed its tally of COVID-19 cases to 3,14,84,605 while the number of deaths climbed to 4,22,022 with 640 deaths in the last 24 hours, the data updated at 8 am showed.
The active cases have declined to 3,99,436 and comprise 1.27 per cent of the total infections. The national COVID-19 recovery rate has improved to 97.39 per cent, it stated.
The daily positivity rate has increased to 2.51 per cent. The weekly positivity rate was recorded at 2.36 per cent, the ministry data stated.

48% Parents Hesitate In Sending Their Kids To Schools Till They Get Vaccinated: Survey
Nearly 48 per cent of parents are not willing to send their children to schools till they are vaccinated against the novel coronavirus infection, says a new survey. The survey conducted with over 32,000 parents across 361 districts in the country found that 30 per cent of parents are willing to send their wards to schools if coronavirus cases in their districts come down to zero.
"Vaccinating children in the coming months is going to be key if children are to go to schools for physical classes. Forty-eight per cent of the surveyed parents said they are not willing to send their children to schools till they are vaccinated. "At least 21 per cent of parents said whenever the schools reopen, they are ready to send their wards there," said the survey by an online platform, Local Circles.

Mumbai Doctor Tests Covid Positive Thrice, Twice After Both Vaccine Doses
Amid debate over the efficacy of Covid vaccines, particularly against newer and more aggressive variants of the coronavirus, a 26-year-old Mumbai doctor tested positive thrice in 13 months - twice after taking both doses of a vaccine.
The doctor's family - father, mother and brother, who have co-morbidities - also tested positive, for the first time each, this month. They too have been given both doses of a vaccine.
The entire family was hospitalised, and samples from the doctor and the brother are being analysed to establish the variant (or variants) that infected them and their family.
Dr Shrushti Halari was on Covid duty at the Veer Savarkar Hospital in Mumbai's Mulund area, and first contracted the virus on June 17 last year. It was a mild infection at that point.

More Than 50% Of German Population Fully Vaccinated Against COVID-19: Minister
More than half the population of Germany is now fully vaccinated, Health Minister Jens Spahn said Wednesday, but concerns are growing about a slowdown in uptake.
"41.8 million Germans now have full protection, while 61.1 percent have received at least one shot. The more people who get vaccinated, the safer we will be in autumn and winter," Spahn wrote on Twitter.
Germany's vaccination campaign accelerated in the spring after a sluggish first few months, yet the country remains some way off the 80 percent targeted for herd immunity.
The inoculation drive has slowed to a snail's pace in recent weeks, sharpening fears of a fourth wave of infections driven by the more contagious Delta variant.

UK Offers Kenya 817,000 Covid Vaccine Doses
Britain said Wednesday it was offering 817,000 coronavirus vaccine doses to Kenya, as it rolls out a promised 100 million jabs for global distribution by next June.
Prime Minister Boris Johnson will formally agree the donation when he meets Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta at the UK leader's country retreat at Chequers, northwest of London, later on Wednesday.
The pair are due to host a fundraising summit in London on Thursday -- attended by other world leaders as well as business, charity, education and youth representatives -- focused on global education efforts.
Around half of the donated Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine doses will be dispatched to Nairobi this week, Downing Street said ahead of the meetings.
"As friends and allies, we are sharing UK vaccine doses to support Kenya's fight against the pandemic," Johnson added in a statement.
"From boosting economic growth to addressing climate change and getting girls into school, the UK and Kenya are working hand-in-hand to deliver a more secure and prosperous world."

4,182 People Violated Covid Protocols At Delhi Airport Between March And July: Centre
A total of 4,182 people violated Covid protocols at the Delhi airport between March and July this year, Minister of State for Civil Aviation VK Singh said on Wednesday.
Mr Singh said 529 such complaints were received from the Hyderabad airport, 301 from the Mumbai airport and 150 from the Bengaluru airport, he said in a written reply to a question in Rajya Sabha.
"There have been cases of violation mainly related to non-wearing of masks by the persons at various airports for which appropriate actions have been taken by the airport operator in collaboration with local authorities/law enforcing agencies," he added.
The Civil Aviation Ministry had issued specific guidelines for airlines, airports and passengers in May 2020 to ensure safe travel amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Coronavirus LIVE Updates: No fresh COVID-19 case in Andaman and Nicobar Islands
The union territory of Andaman and Nicobar Islands did not record any new COVID-19 case in the last 24 hours, a health department official said on Wednesday.
The COVID-19 tally in the archipelago remained at 7,535.
The union territory now has 12 active COVID-19 cases of which 11 are in the South Andaman district and one in the North and Middle Andaman district. The Nicobar district is now COVID-19 free as it has no active case, he said.
Two more persons recuperated from COVID-19 during the period, taking the total number of recoveries to 7,389, he said.
The COVID-19 death toll in the archipelago remained at 129 as no fresh death due to the contagion was reported in the last 24 hours.

Vaccinated People In High Covid-Risk Areas Of US Need To Mask Again
People vaccinated against Covid-19 in high-risk parts of the United States should resume wearing masks indoors, the top health authority said Tuesday, a major shift in coronavirus guidance that underscores the country's struggle to suppress the Delta variant.
President Joe Biden said the announcement showed that America needs to "do better" on vaccinations, adding that a mandate for the country's more than two million federal workers was now "under consideration."
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention director Rochelle Walensky relayed the mask decision in a press call, citing new data that shows that while vaccines remain highly effective, rare breakthrough cases involving Delta have an increased risk of onward transmission.
"In areas with substantial and high transmission, CDC recommends fully vaccinated people wear masks in public indoor settings," she said.
