Coronavirus cases in India: The country's recovery rate is 77.3 per cent.

Coronavirus India Live Updates: With 90,802 cases has push India's coronavirus tally to 42,04,613, the Union Health Ministry data this morning showed. The death count has risen to 71,642 with 1,016 more fatalities.

32,50,439 patients have recovered from the infection in the country, pushing the recovery rate to 77.3 per cent.

Maharashtra remains the state hit hardest by the pandemic, followed by Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Uttar Pradesh. India is the country with the second-highest coronavirus caseload in the world after the United States.

Meanwhile, Metro trains have resumed in select cities of the country today, more than five months after they were stopped, with protective measures against the coronavirus. Only asymptomatic people are allowed to board trains and stations at containment zones will stay shut.

Maharashtra's COVID-19 tally has risen to 9,23,641 with addition of 16,429 cases. 423 patients have died taking the count to 27,027, the state health department said, reported news agency PTI.

5 States Contribute 60% Of Total COVID-19 Cases, 70% Of Fatality In India: Health Ministry

Five states including Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Uttar Pradesh, contribute over 60 per cent of total COVID-19 cases, 62 per cent of active cases and 70 per cent of overall fatality reported due to the virus in India, the Union Health Ministry informed on Monday.

According to the Union Health Ministry, Maharashtra has 26.76 per cent of the active cases in the country, followed by Andhra Pradesh (11.30 per cent), Karnataka (11.25 per cent), Uttar Pradesh (6.98 per cent ) and Tamil Nadu (5.83 per cent).

These 5 States together contributed 57 per cent of the recoveries in the last 24 hours.

As per the health ministry data, the total number of recoveries stands more than 32.5 lakh (32,50,429) so far.

COVID recovery rate touches 88.24 per cent in Bihar: Nitish Kumar

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Monday said that the recovery rate of COVID-19 patients has touched 88.24 per cent in the state but asked people to "remain alert and vigilant" as no one knows what will happen in future. 

Stating that the testing capacity has crossed over 1.50 lakh per day in the state, Mr Kumar said that 11,350 RT-PCR tests are being done on a daily basis at present which the government intends to increase to 20,000 a day.

For this, the state government will be getting 10 RT-PCR machines and a COBAS 8800 machine from the central government, besides the state government will also be purchasing 10 RT-PCR machines, Mr Kumar said.

"Covid Vijay Raths" to visit pandemic-hit areas in Gujarat

The Gujarat government on Monday launched five "Covid Vijay Raths" to "create awareness and confidence" among people regarding coronavirus and distribute Ayurvedic immunity boosters and homeopathic medicines in pandemic-affected areas.

These "raths" (vehicles) will distribute immunit boosters and homeopathic medicines in coronavirus-hit areas in all the 33 districts of the state over the next 44 days, said a government release. 

Chief Minister Vijay Rupani flagged off through video-conferencing these ''Covid Vijay Raths,'' one each from Ahmedabad, Surat, Junagarh, Bhuj and Palanpur, it said.

Goa's COVID-19 cases cross 21,000

The COVID-19 tally in Goa rose to 21,173 on Monday with addition of 344 new cases, a health official said. With nine people succumbing to the infection, the deaths went up to 245, he said.

A total of 588 people were discharged in the day, taking the total count of recoveries in the state to 16,427.

Goa's COVID-19 figures are as follows: Positive cases 21,173, new cases 344, deaths 245, discharged 16,427, active cases 4,501, samples tested till date 2,13,469.

Over 1,000 COVID-19 cases in Jammu and Kashmir for 5th day; 17 more dead

Jammu and Kashmir recorded more than 1,000 coronavirus cases for the fifth consecutive day on Monday, pushing the caseload in the UT to 44,570, officials said.

And 17 deaths in the past 24 hours pushed the COVID-19 deaths to 801, they said.

"The UT recorded 1,013 cases of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours. This is for the fifth time in five days the number of fresh cases has crossed 1,000 in a 24-hour period," an official said.

ICMR facility to conduct 1,000 COVID-19 tests daily in Puducherry: Chief Minister

Ramping up testing amid increasing cases of COVID-19, the Puducherry government has roped in the ICMR-sponsored Vector Control Research Centre (VCRC) to screen 1,000 samples daily soon, in addition to the existing capacity.

Chief Minister V Narayanasamy told a virtual press conference on Monday that he had spoken to the Chairman of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), seeking the VCRC's cooperation for testing the swab samples for COVID-19.

"The Chairman has conceded my request and very soon VCRC would start the testing and this would be in addition to what the state-run medical college hospital and the Centrally-sponsored JIPMER are doing," he said.

56 more die due to COVID-19 in Uttar Pradesh, 5,649 fresh cases recorded

Uttar Pradesh recorded 56 more deaths due to COVID-19 on Monday, taking the state''s toll to 3,976, while 5,649 fresh cases pushed the tally to 2,71,851.

Briefing reporters here, Additional Chief Secretary, Medical and Health, Amit Mohan Prasad said 3,976 COVID-19 deaths have been reported in the state so far and the case fatality rate stands at 1.46 per cent. 

A total of 5,649 fresh COVID-19 cases were reported, he said. There are 62,144 active COVID-19 cases in the state.

Andhra Pradesh COVID-19 tally surges past 5-lakh mark

Andhra Pradesh on Monday crossed the five-lakh mark in COVID-19 cases, riding on a rapid surge particularly in the last month. As 8,368 cases were added afresh in 24 hours ending 9 am on Monday, the state's COVID-19 aggregate touched 5,06,493, while 70 more died, pushing the toll up to 4,487. 

The latest bulletin said 10,055 more patients recovered, taking the overall number of those cured to 4,04,074. The state now has 97,932 active cases.

Andaman and Nicobar Islands COVID-19 tally rises to 3,332

The COVID-19 caseload in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands rose to 3,332, with 40 new coronavirus cases detected in the union territory, an official said on Monday. 

Of the 40 new cases, 38 were detected during local contact tracing and two were airport arrivals, the official said. 

All passengers coming from the mainland have to mandatorily undergo rapid antigen test for COVID-19 at the airport here on arrival, he said.

Etihad to provide COVID-19 insurance to passengers to boost travel confidence

Abu Dhabi's Etihad Airways on Monday said it would cover medical and quarantine costs for passengers if they contract the new coronavirus after travelling on one of its flights.

Airlines around the world are trying to find ways to stimulate demand that has been shattered by the pandemic and expected to take years to recover.

Medical costs of up to 150,000 euros ($177,000) and quarantine costs of up to 100 euro a day for 14 days will be covered by Etihad for its passengers who contract the disease within 31 days of first travel."

Rajasthan health minister flags off 3 coronavirus awareness vehicles

Rajasthan Health Minister Raghu Sharma Monday flagged off ''Campaign Communication Vehicles'' to create awareness about coronavirus in three districts of the State.

He flagged off the vehicles from his residence here.

mr Sharma said the three special vehicles are being sent to Alwar, Jodhpur and Ajmer districts under the awareness campaign being run across the state with the help of United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), Rural Electrification Corporation (REC) and National Health Mission (NHM).

These vehicles will visit the coronavirus-affected areas, tehsil headquarters and 100 revenue villages till October 6 and will make people aware about the deadly virus, a release said.

Noida Metro resumes operations, commuters screened for body temp at entry of stations

The Noida-Greater Noida metro resumed services on Monday after a gap of over five months, with commuters being thoroughly screened for face cover and body temperature at the entry of stations, officials said.

The services on the Aqua Line were suspended in March due to the COVID-19 outbreak.

"The services resumed at 7 am on Monday. The commuters were thoroughly screened at the entry of stations for face masks, body temperatures, among others, as per government guidelines," a spokesperson of the Noida Metro Rail Corporation (NMRC) said.

According to NMRC rules, people with a body temperature above 37.7 degrees Celsius and without a ''green status'' on the Aarogya Setu mobile app would not be allowed entry.

"The trains ran at an interval of 15 minutes during the first 7 am-11 am shift of the day. The second shift will operate from 5 pm to 9 pm," the spokesperson said.

BJP Karnataka state president cured of COVID-19

BJP Karnataka state president and Dakshina Kannada MP Nalin Kumar Kateel has been cured of Covid-19 and discharged from hospital. He will be under quarantine for a few days on the advice of doctors. 

"With the blessings of Goddess Kateel Durgaparameswhari and the love and wishes of everyone, I have been cured of corona.Presently, doctors have advised quarantine for a few days," he said in a tweet on Monday.

China Shows Off Coronavirus Vaccines For First Time

China has put its homegrown coronavirus vaccines on display for the first time, as the country where the contagion was discovered looks to shape the narrative surrounding the pandemic.

High hopes hang on the small vials of liquid on show at a Beijing trade fair this week -- vaccine candidates produced by Chinese companies Sinovac Biotech and Sinopharm.

Neither has hit the market yet but the makers hope they will be approved after all-important phase 3 trials as early as year-end.

A Sinovac representative told AFP his firm has already "completed the construction of a vaccine factory" able to produce 300 million doses a year.

Puducherry Logs 292 New COVID-19 Cases, 11 Deaths

Puducherry on Monday reported 292 fresh COVID-19 cases and 11 related fatalities taking the number of deaths to 325.

The 11 people who died included three women, Health Minister Malladi Krishna Rao told a virtual press conference.

The new cases took the overall tally in the union territory to 17,316 (after transfer of eight cases to Tamil Nadu).

Mr Rao said the 292 positive cases were identified at the end of examination of 1,073 samples.

He also said 503 patients were discharged during the last 24 hours from hospitals.
