India Corona cases: A total of 33,10,235 coronavirus cases have been reported in the country so far

New Delhi:

India has once again seen a record daily rise in coronavirus cases with  77,266 fresh cases in the last 24 hours, bringing the total count to 33,87,500, according to data from the Union Health Ministry this morning.
An additional 1,057 new deaths brought the overall death count to 61,529. 

India has the third-highest number of virus infections in the world, after the United States and Brazil.

25,83,948 patients have recovered from the infection in the country, taking the recovery rate to 76.27 per cent. Maharashtra remains the hardest-hit state in the pandemic, accounting for 7,33,568 cases.

The coronavirus pandemic has killed over 8.31 lakh people globally since it emerged in China late last year. Over 2.44 crore people have been infected with the novel coronavirus.

The US is by far the hardest-hit country in the world in terms of both number of cases and deaths. The country passed the grim milestone of 1,80,000 coronavirus deaths on Thursday, according to Johns Hopkins University's real-time tracker.

Chhatra Parishad activists detained in Kolkata for ''violating'' COVID-19 protocols

Several activists of Chhatra Parishad, the student wing of the Congress, were detained in Kolkata on Friday for "violating" COVID-19 protocols, police said.

They violated restrictions on mass gathering and attempted to scale the compound wall of the shut Mahajati Sadan auditorium complex in central Kolkata to hoist the Chhatra Parishad flag to mark the organisation''s 67th foundation day on Friday, a police officer said.

The Congress claimed that police resorted to lathi- charge, causing injuries to several Chhatra Parishad activists, including its state unit president Sourabh Chakraborty who is being treated at a hospital in the city.

COVID-19: Jharkhand govt extends lockdown restrictions within containment zones till September 30

Jharkhand government on Friday extended coronavirus-induced lockdown related restrictions currently in place in the state within the containment zones up to September 30.

As per the government order, all economic activities, not specifically prohibited, shall be permitted outside the containment zones.

12 more coronavirus-related deaths, 1,017 new cases in Rajasthan

Rajasthan reported 12 more fatalities linked to COVID-19 and 1,355 fresh infections on Friday, bringing the deaths from the disease to 1,017 and the virus count to 77,370, according to an official report.

The deaths were reported one each from Ajmer, Alwar, Bikaner, Jalore, Kota, Nagaur and Pali, two from Jodhpur and three from Jaipur, it said.

Maximum of 237 fresh COVID-19 cases were reported from Jaipur, followed by Jodhpur, where 195 people tested positive.

331 deaths, 14,361 new COVID-19 cases reported in Maharashtra

A total of 14,361 new COVID-19 cases and 331 deaths were reported from Maharashtra on Friday, taking the total number of positive cases in the state to 7,47,995, the state health department informed.

The total figure includes 1,80,718 active cases and 5,43,170 recoveries. So far, 23,775 deaths have been reported in the state.

1,808 new COVID-19 cases reported in Delhi

A total of 1,808 new COVID-19 cases and 20 deaths were reported in Delhi on Friday.

The total count of cases now stands in the national capital now stands at 1,69,412. It includes 13,550 active cases, 1,51,473 recoveries and 4,389 deaths. 

As per the health department, 1,446 recoveries were recorded on Friday.

Rapid Antigen Testing for COVID-19 available at Veer Savarkar International Airport: AAI

Airports Authority of India (AAI) on Friday said that Rapid Antigen Testing (RAT) for COVID-19 is now available at Veer Savarkar International Airport, Portblair, Andaman and Nicobar.

"Rapid antigen testing, now available at Port Blair @aaipblairport. Special provisions have been made such as RT-PCR test counter for pax travelling to Andaman district, Nicobar district and Rangat tehsil district pax. Also, Ayush hospital's staff to provide immunity meds to passengers," AAI said in a tweet attaching pictures of the passengers using the facility.

West Bengal's COVID recovery rate crosses 80 per cent

The recovery rate of COVID-19 patients in West Bengal reached 80.86 per cent on Friday after 3,286 people were discharged from various hospitals of the state, a bulletin issued by the health department said. So far, 1,24,332 people have recovered from the disease in West Bengal, it said.

The death toll rose to 3,073 after 56 more people died to COVID-19, while the state's caseload went up to 1,53,754 as 2,982 fresh cases of infection were reported. The number of active cases is now 26,349.

55 more people test positive for COVID-19 in UP's Muzaffarnagar

Fifty-five more people, including four policemen and eight inmates of a district jail, tested positive for COVID-19 in Uttar Pradesh's Muzaffarnagar on Friday, an official said.

There are 521 active cases in the district, while a total of 1,306 patients have recovered from the infection, according to District Magistrate Selva Kumari. She said 279 samples were tested for COVID-19, of which 55 came out positive.

19 youths arrested for violating COVID-19 norms at Ghaziabad hotel

The Excise Department arrested 19 youths for violating COVID-19 guidelines and consuming alcohol and hookah at a hotel, police said on Friday.

The accused were held during a raid at the hotel, senior police official Abhishek Verma said.

An event manager based in the NCR had booked a party hall and some rooms in the hotel, Mr Verma said, adding that the police have recovered hookah and other intoxicants from the spot.

The hotel manager, Haidar Chowdhary, has also been booked under the Excise Act for selling liquor without a license, he said.

Religious places in Maharashtra should be reopened: Devendra Fadnavis

BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis said here on Friday that religious places in Maharashtra should be opened as in other states. If liquor shops and malls can reopen with relaxation of lockdown, why should religious places should remain closed, the former chief minister said.

"We expect religious places will be opened for the public in Maharashtra as has been done by all other states in the country," he told reporters.

People are aware of the danger of coronavirus and will take all the precautions even if religious places are reopened, Mr Fadnavis opined.

523 New Coronavirus Cases In Goa, Four Deaths, 429 Recover
Goa recorded 523 fresh coronavirus cases on Friday, which took the case tally in the state to 16,006, the health department said.

With four COVID-19 patients dying, death count reached 175, it added.

429 patients were discharged from hospitals, taking the number of recovered patients to 12,296.

Bengal's COVID Recovery Rate Crosses 80 Per Cent
The recovery rate of COVID-19 patients in West Bengal reached 80.86 per cent on Friday after 3,286 people were discharged from various hospitals of the state, a bulletin issued by the health department said.

Sikkim Reports 34 New COVID-19 Cases; Tally Rises To 1,576
Sikkim's COVID-19 caseload rose to 1,576, with 34 more people testing positive for coronavirus, an official said on Friday.

Of the 34 new cases, 33 were reported from East Sikkim and one from West Sikkim, state IEC officer Sonam Bhutia said.

Sikkim now has 393 COVID-19 active cases as 1,180 people have recovered from the disease and three have died, he said.

Coronavirus update: Antibody testing event held for police officials in Andhra Pradesh

An antibody testing event for COVID-19 was held for the police personnel at Eluru Police Parade Ground near Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) office in Andhra Pradesh's West Godavari district on Friday.

Eluru range Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) KV Mohan Rao and other police personnel in the city underwent the test after the medical team collected their blood samples.

Armed Reserve Additional Superintendent of Police M Mahesh Kumar, Police Unit doctor G Deepa, and police staff also took part in the event, ANI reported.

Coronavirus update: Adityanath instructs state officials to conduct 1,50,000 COVID-19 tests daily

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday in a Team-11 meeting with state officials instructed them to ensure 1,50,000 COVID-19 tests daily.

The Chief Minister directed the officials to continue all efforts to break the chain of the transition of COVID-19. Medical testing, especially rapid antigen test and RT-PCR tests should also be increased, he added.

Coronavirus update: Nagpur records single-day spike of over 1,300 COVID-19 cases

Nagpur district in Maharashtra recorded its highest single-day spike of 1,329 COVID-19 cases on Friday that took the tally to 26,094 in the region, a district official said.

According to the data released by the district authorities, as many as 42 COVID-19 patients died due to the infection, while 1,092 were discharged following their recovery on Friday.

Coronavirus update: Bihar's Covid caseload mounts to 1.30 lakh, recovery rate 85.94 per cent

Bihar's COVID-19 recovery rate on Friday remained over 85 per cent, while the coronavirus caseload rose to 1.30 lakh with 1998 fresh positive cases, a health department bulletin said.

A total of 12 fatalities was reported in the past 24 hours, taking the death tally in the state to 374, the bulletin said.
