Coronavirus Highlights: Over Half Million Cases In India After Biggest Daily Spike

COVID-19 Cases Highlights: India on Friday registered its biggest single-day increase in COVID-19 cases, recording 17,296 infections in the last 24 hours, the health ministry said this morning.

India on Friday registered its biggest single-day increase in COVID-19 cases, recording 17,296 infections in the last 24 hours, the health ministry said this morning. The new cases pushed the overall tally to 4,90,401 lakh as the number of fatalities touched 15,301, as per the government data. 407 deaths were reported in the last 24 hours.

However, the recovery rate has improved to 58.24 per cent, according to the Union Health Ministry figures, with 2,85,637 patients recovering. In the last five days, India has contributed the third-highest new cases daily in the world. The country maintains the fourth position on the mortality rate.

Indore Registers 32 New COVID-19 Cases, Total Rises To 4,575
Indore on Friday reported 32 new coronavirus cases, according to the District Health Department.

With this, the total number of COVID-19 cases in the district stood at 4,575, including 3,397 discharged cases and 218 fatalities.

With the highest single-day spike of 17,296 COVID-19 cases reported in the last 24 hours, India's COVID-19 count reached 4,90,401 on Friday, said the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW).

The total number of cases include 1,89,463 active cases, 2,85,637 cured/discharged/migrated and 15,301 deaths, news agency ANI reported.

Delhi Orders COVID-19 Dedicated Hospitals To Install CCTV Cameras In Wards
The Delhi government on Friday ordered all COVID-19 dedicated hospitals to install CCTV cameras in all wards.

"All the COVID-19 dedicated hospitals are directed to ensure that CCTVs shall be immediately installed in all wards of the hospital. The PWD has already been directed to do it on an emergent basis to assist the hospital management to immediately find out the requirement of proper care with regard to patients admitted in the wards, and also ensure transparency in patient care," an order said.

The Delhi government said that the footages from these cameras should be made available to the inspecting/supervising expert team or to any other body.

"All COVID-19 dedicated hospitals shall permit one willing attendant of the patient in the premises, who will remain in an area earmarked by the hospital," the order read.

It directed the hospitals to create a helpdesk that is "accessible physically as well as by telephone form where the well-being of the patients admitted in the hospitals can be enquired", news agency ANI reported.

Mizoram Government Eases Lockdown Norms
The Mizoram government on Fridayeased lockdown norms in Aizawl municipal area, district headquarters and containment zones following a dip in coronavirus cases in the past two days, officials said.

The new order came into effect from Friday and will be valid till June 30.

On June 21, the state government had extended thecomplete lockdown in these places till June 30 to contain the spread of COVID-19.

Shops can open and commercial activities will be normal in Aizawl municipal area, district headquarters and containment zones, the state government notification said, news agency PTI reported.

COVID-19: Nashik count touches 3,493, death count 213
Nashik district on Friday reported 115 new COVID-19 cases, taking its count to 3,493, while the death count reached 213, an official said.

Of the 14 COVID-19 deaths recorded on Friday, several are of those who succumbed earlier but their reports returned positive during the day, he added.

The number of persons who have recovered so far stands at 1,911, he said.

COVID-19: 787 test positive, Pune count now 19,027
Pune district reported 787 novel coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours, taking its COVID-19
count to 19,027, a health official said on Friday.

The death count reached 674 with 19 succumbing to the infection during this period, he said, while 331 persons were discharged after recovery.

"Of the 787 cases, 606 are in Pune city limits, which now has 14,926 patients. The number of cases in Pimpri Chinchwad is 2,550 while it 1,548 in rural and cantonment  areas," he added.

364 new COVID-19 cases in Rajasthan
Rajasthan on Friday reported 364 new cases of COVID-19, taking the total count of cases in the state to 16,660.

The State Health Department said that active cases in the state stand at 3,218, while the death toll has reached 380. One person died due to the disease in the last 24 hours.

29 more COVID cases detected in Jharkhand; cases rise to 2,294
Twenty-nine more people tested positive for COVID-19 in Jharkhand on Friday, taking the total
number of confirmed cases in the state to 2,294, a government bulletin said.

Forty-two patients also recovered from the disease during the day, it said.

The state now has 635 active cases. While 12 people died of novel coronavirus, 1,647 patients were cured of COVID-19 and discharged from hospitals.

Can create COVID-19 facility in north Goa: Minister
The Goa government will increase facilities to combat the coronavirus outbreak and if need be
will set up a COVID-19 facility in the northern district of the state on the lines of Margao's ESI Hospital, said health minister Vishwajit Rane on Friday.

A total of 44 cases were detected in the state during the day, taking the COVID-19 count to 1,039, while the number of active cases was 667.

"We are ready to create more facilities to fight the outbreak. If need be, another facility can be created in North Goa," he said.

At present, the state government has designated ESI Hospital in Margao as a COVID-19 facility.

Mr Rane said random testing was being done at clusters where positive cases were being reported.

89 new coronavirus cases in Chhattisgarh, one death
The number of COVID-19 cases in Chhattisgarh increased to 2,545 after 89 more people,
including seven Border Security Force (BSF) personnel, tested positive on Friday, a health official said.

A 39-year-old patient died at a hospital in state capital Raipur, taking the number of coronavirus fatalities in the state to 13, while 115 patients were discharged from different hospitals following recovery, he said.

Of the new cases, 39 were reported from Jashpur district, 14 each from Durg and Raipur, five each from Raigarh and Rajnandgaon, four each from Balodabazar and Balrampur, three from Kabirdham and one from Surguja district, he said.

Rapid tests will be conducted in all districts, UP government tells High Court
The Uttar Pradesh government has told the Allahabad High Court that it will begin using rapid test kits to detect coronavirus across the state as soon as possible.

The court issued directions to the state on Thursday, asking it to implement antigen testing in all districts.

The order followed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) plea seeking a better handling of the coronavirus crisis.

Justices Siddhartha Varma and Ajit Kumar also asked the UP police chief to ensure wearing of masks and social distancing in the state.

On Tuesday, the state government had said in Lucknow that it has received the antigen test kits and planned to begin using them from Wednesday, focusing on six districts.

3 Army medical teams detailed to function at COVID care facility on wheels in Delhi
 Three Army medical teams have been detailed to function at COVID care facility in the national capital, said Indian Army on Wednesday.

"Three Indian Army medical teams each comprising one medical officer, two nursing assistants and one ambulance have been detailed to function at COVID care facility on wheels established by Delhi Government at Shakurbasti railway station," said Indian Army.

COVID Care Centre has been set up at Shakurbasti Railway station.

Rajasthan to begin trying rapid antigen test for coronavirus cases
The Rajasthan government will soon begin rapid antigen tests on a trial basis for screening coronavirus cases in the state as per guidelines issued by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), according to an official statement.

Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Friday gave this direction to officials during a video conference with medical experts, the statement said.

Additional Chief Secretary, Medical and Health, Rohit Kumar Singh said the ICMR is sending 200 test kits to Rajasthan for the trial.

Mr Gehlot said this will help ramp up coronavirus investigation infrastructure and get quick reports.

In the discussions related to COVID-19 with the faculty members of medical colleges, doctors and other medical experts, Mr Gehlot said the state government's objective is to bring down the mortality rate due to the disease.

136 new COVID-19 cases in Gautam Buddh Nagar, recovery rate drops to 53%
Gautam Buddh Nagar, which has the maximum active COVID-19 cases in Uttar Pradesh, recorded 136 new patients on Thursday, official data showed.

Also, 11 patients were discharged after recovering from the novel virus, taking the number of cured patients to 1,039 in the district, according to the daily bulletin released by the UP Health department.

The number of active COVID-19 cases rose to 887 in Gautam Buddh Nagar, while the death toll stood at 20 on Thursday, the data showed.

The total number of positive cases so far reported in the district is 1,946 (887 active cases, 1,039 discharged cases, 20 deceased), according to the data.

However, if 136 new cases as declared on Friday are added to Thursday's tally of 1,811 COVID-19 cases, the overall figure would stand at 1,947.

The recovery rate of patients on Friday dropped further to 53.39 per cent from 56.76 per cent on Thursday, 59.67 per cent on Wednesday and 60.25 per cent on Tuesday, according to statistics.

Ahmedabad's COVID-19 count crosses 20,000-mark with 219 cases
With the addition of 219 new COVID-19 cases in Ahmedabad district of Gujarat in the last 24
hours, its tally of patients crossed the 20,000-mark on  Friday, the state health department said.

The number of cases in the district now stands at 20,058, it said.

The death of eight patients in the last 24 hours took the death count in the district to 1,398, the department said in a statement.

According to it, 210 patients undergoing treatment at different hospitals recovered from the infection and were given discharge in the last 24 hours.

3,460 fresh COVID cases in Delhi take tally to over 77,000; death count climbs to 2,492
Delhi recorded 3,460 fresh coronavirus cases on Friday, taking the tally in the city to over 77,000, while the death count from the disease mounted to 2,492, authorities said.

On Tuesday, the national capital had reported the highest single-day spike of 3,947 cases.

On Wednesday, Delhi had eclipsed Mumbai as the city worst-hit by the pandemic in the country.

Sixty-three fatalities have been recorded in the last 24 hours, a Delhi health department bulletin said on Friday.

The bulletin said the death count from coronavirus infection has risen to 2,492, and the total number of cases mounted to 77,240.

COVID-19: 1,332 cases, 30 deaths today in Maharashtra's Thane district
Thane district on Friday recorded 1,332 coronavirus positive cases, taking the count to 27,479,
while 30 deaths during the day took the count to 911, an official said.

Thane city led with 365 cases, followed by 358 from Kalyan, 224 from Navi Mumbai and 120 from Mira Bhayander, he said.

"The recovery rate in the district is 48.70 per cent while mortality rate is 3.32 per cent," he added.

In neighbouring Palghar district, the COVID-19 count stood at 3,480 while the number of deaths was 114 so far.
