Coronavirus India Highlights: 10,302 New COVID-19 Cases In India, 7% Lower Than Yesterday

India today logged 10,302 fresh Covid cases, which is 7 per cent lower than yesterday's figure. The country also reported 276 deaths in a day. The active caseload stands at 1,24,868, the lowest in 531 days. Daily positivity rate is at 0.96, less than 2 per cent for last 47 days.

Iran says it has fully vaccinated over half its population

More than half of Iran's population has been fully vaccinated against Covid-19, the health ministry said Saturday, as infection and death rates in the country have started to drop.

More than 44.2 million of Iran's 83 million population have received two coronavirus vaccine doses since the country began its inoculation campaign in February, according to ministry figures.

Another 12.2 million people have received a single vaccine dose.

The Islamic republic uses a number of vaccines, including the Chinese-made Sinopharm jab.

Iran is battling the deadliest coronavirus outbreak in the Middle East. It has officially recorded over six million infections and almost 129,000 deaths.

COVID-19: Haryana reports one more death, 11 fresh cases

With 11 fresh cases, Haryana's COVID-19 tally climbed to 7,71,528 on Saturday, while the deaths due to the viral disease went up to 10,053 in the state with more person due to it.

According to the daily COVID-19 bulletin issued by the state health department, the death was reported from Fatehabad district.

All the 11 fresh cases were reported from Gurugram.

The number of active COVID-19 cases in the state is 109 while a total of 7,61,343 people have recovered from the infection.

COVID-19: 313 new cases, 4 deaths in Karnataka

Karnataka has reported 313 new cases of COVID-19 and 4 deaths, taking the total number of infections to 29,92,897 and deaths to 38,165, the health department said on Thursday.

The day also saw 369 discharges, taking the total number of recoveries in the state so far to 29,47,354.

Out of 313 new cases reported today, 179 were from Bengaluru Urban, as the city saw 236 discharges and 2 deaths.

Total number of active cases in the state is at 7,349.

While the positivity rate for the day stood at 0.36 per cent, case fatality rate (CFR) was at 1.27 per cent.

Out of 4 deaths reported on Thursday, 2 are from Bengaluru Urban and one each from Ramanagara and Uttara Kannada.

Assam reports 238 new COVID-19 cases, 5 deaths

A total of 238 new COVID-19 cases and five deaths were reported in Assam in the last 24 hours. As per the state's health department, Assam has 1,756 active cases while the total case count has gone up to 6,15,291. The positivity rate stood at 0.64 per cent on Saturday.

With 184 new recoveries, the total recoveries climbed to 6,06,117. The recovery rate is 98.51 per cent.

The deaths in Assam is at 6,071 and the case fatality rate is 0.99 per cent.

Four deaths, 15 fresh virus cases in Punjab
Four more people died from coronavirus in Punjab on Saturday as 15 fresh cases took the state''s infection tally to 6,02,956, according to a medical bulletin. Four fatalities were reported from Hoshiarpur, Gurdaspur, Moga and Mohali.

So far, 16,584 people have died from the infection in the state, as per the bulletin. Among new cases, Jalandhar, Pathankot and Mohali reported three each, followed by two in Hoshiarpur.

The number of active cases was 290.

Thirty-four people recovered from the infection, taking the number of those who have been cured to 5,86,082, as per the bulletin.

Coronavirus Significantly Raises Risk Of Stillbirth, Says US Study
The risk of stillbirth is about twice as high for women with Covid compared to those without, and grew to about quadruple during the period when the Delta variant became dominant, a large US government study said Friday.

The analysis, carried out by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) was based on more than 1.2 million deliveries between March 2020 and September 2021 from a large US hospital database.

Overall, stillbirths were highly rare, accounting for 0.65 percent or 8,154 deliveries.

But, after using statistical methods to account for the effect of other variables that might bias the result, stillbirths were 1.47 times more common among Covid-positive mothers pre-Delta, 4.04 times higher after, and 1.90 times higher overall.

Gujarat Covid Patient Discharged After 202 Days Of Hospitalisation
A 45-year-old woman, who had tested positive for coronavirus on May 1 this year, was discharged from a medical facility in Gujarat's Dahod city, after 202 days of hospitalisation, her family members said today.

Geeta Dharmik, whose husband is a railway employee at Dahod, had tested positive for the infection during the second wave of the pandemic on her return from Bhopal, they said.

She had to be hospitalised for a total of 202 days before the doctors at Dahod railway hospital decided to discharge her after her recovery, they said.

"The family members were overjoyed to receive her home on her discharge from Dahod railway hospital on Friday. She remained hospitalised at Dahod and Vadodara for a total of 202 days, during which she was kept on ventilator and oxygen support," her husband Trilok Dharmik, an engineer with the Railways, said.

2nd Covid Death Of Fully Vaccinated Person Within Week In Madhya Pradesh
A 54-year-old woman, who had received both doses of a Covid vaccine, died of coronavirus in Bhopal, taking the number of fully vaccinated persons succumbing to the infection to two in Madhya Pradesh within a week, officials said.

Bhopal's Chief Medical and Health Officer (CMHO), Dr Prabhakar Tiwari, confirmed to PTI that the woman, who died due to the infection in Bhopal's All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), had taken both jabs.

Despite repeated attempts, the AIIMS public relations cell and management did not respond to calls.

When contacted, a family member of the woman who died, who is a renowned doctor in Bhopal, said she was admitted to AIIMS after testing positive for coronavirus on November 15.

164 New Covid-19 Cases, 1 Death In Andhra Pradesh
Andhra Pradesh added 164 fresh cases to its COVID-19 tally, which has now gone up to 20,71,070.

The total recoveries increased to 20,54,252 after 196 more persons got cured of the infection in 24 hours ending 9 am on Saturday, a health department bulletin said.

One fresh fatality took the gross toll so far to 14,426, it said.

The active caseload decreased to 2,392.

Krishna district reported 32, Visakhapatnam 24, Guntur 22, Chittoor 19 and West Godavari 18 fresh cases in 24 hours while the remaining eight districts added less than 10 each.

Service Providers Can Now Check People's Vaccination Status At CoWIN
The Union Health Ministry has activated a service on the CoWIN portal that allows anyone to check an individual's vaccination status with the person's registered mobile number and name, followed by an OTP for consent.

The service could be utilised by a service provider -- private entities such as travel agencies, offices, employers, entertainment agencies or government agencies such as IRCTC -- for whom verifying a person's vaccination status is critical for facilitating a service requested by the citizen, an official said.

Active COVID-19 infections drop below 9,000 in Tamil Nadu

Tamil Nadu continued to record a decline in new COVID-19 infections as active cases fell below the 9,000 mark on Friday, pushing the tally to 27,18,750.

The state recorded 772 cases and 13 deaths, taking the number to 36,349 till date, a health department bulletin said.

Recoveries outnumbered new infections with 884 people getting discharged in the last 24 hours, aggregating to 26,73,448 leaving 8,953 active infections, the bulletin said.

A total of 1,02,383 samples were tested in the last 24 hours, pushing the cumulative number of specimens examined to 5,31,56,461.

Chennai and Coimbatore accounted for the majority of new infections with 120 and 119 cases, respectively, while the remaining was scattered across other districts.

As many as 18 districts reported below 10 COVID-19 infections, while Perambalur and Virudhunagar recorded zero new cases, the bulletin said.
