Coronavirus Cases India: According to the ICMR 8,44,382 samples for COVID-19 were tested on November 16

New Delhi:

India recorded 29,164 new COVID-19 infections in the last 24 hours - less than 30,000 in a day for the first time in over four months, government coronavirus data shows. With this, the country's total Covid case count since the January outbreak stands at 88,74,291, including 4,53,401 active cases and 82,90,371 recoveries. The cumulative deaths climbed to 1,30,519 after 449 new deaths.

Maharashtra has 85,363 active coronavirus cases, the highest in the country, followed by Kerala with 71,046 and Delhi with 40,128. 

This is the tenth day when India reported less than 50,000 cases in a day. The last time daily new cases crossed the 50,000-threshold was on November 7.

According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), 8,44,382 samples for COVID-19 were tested on November 16 while a total of 12,65,42,907 samples tested so far.

On Monday, the Union Health Ministry informed that the coronavirus recovery rate has improved to 93.27 per cent. India has continued the unbroken trend of the daily new recoveries outpacing the daily new additions for the 44th day, it had said.

Coronavirus news: Cong favours total lockdown of markets, public transport in Delhi to check COVID-19 spike

Coronavirus news: German government bars coronavirus protest outside parliament

Militant opponents of Germany's measures to halt the spread of coronavirus will be barred from marching outside parliament Wednesday over fears of violence, the interior ministry said.

MPs are to pass new restrictions to keep the pandemic in check. The ministry said in a statement Tuesday that it had rejected 12 applications to hold protests against the measures outside the historic Reichstag building in central Berlin, AFP reported.

Coronavirus news: Farooq Abdullah, Son Omar Self-Isolate After Meeting Possible Covid +ve Person

National Conference (NC) leaders Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdullah went into self-isolation on Tuesday after one of their secondary contacts tested positive for COVID-19.

The announcement was made by Omar Abdullah on Twitter, saying doctors had advised them self-isolation for a week, before undergoing a precautionary COVID-19 test, PTI reported.

Coronavirus news: 541 new cases, 1,565 recoveries in Mumbai; 14 die
Mumbai reported 541 new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday, taking its tally to 2,70,654, while more
than 1,500 patients recovered from the infection, the city civic body said.

On Monday, the financial capital had reported 409 cases, the lowest daily count in the past several months, PTI reported.

Coronavirus news: Random COVID-19 test for people coming from Delhi to Noida from Wednesday
People coming from Delhi to Noida will be randomly tested for COVID-19 from Wednesday, the administration of Gautam Buddh Nagar, adjoining the national capital, in Uttar Pradesh said.

The decision for random sampling came during an online meeting of senior administration and health department officials with District Magistrate Suhas LY on Tuesday amid a spike in COVID-19 cases in Delhi, PTI reported.

Coronavirus news: Moderna says UK deal will supply COVID-19 vaccine from March
Moderna Inc confirmed on Tuesday it had agreed to supply its COVID-19 vaccine candidate, mRNA-1273, to the United Kingdom starting from the beginning of March, as long as it succeeds in gaining local regulatory approval.

The company's statement did not disclose other terms of the agreement, including the number of doses it agreed to supply, Reuters reported.

Coronavirus news: Rajasthan records 2,194 cases and 11 deaths

Rajasthan recorded 2,194 fresh coronavirus cases and 11 deaths on Tuesday, taking the total number of positive cases to 2,30,180 and fatalities to 2,089.

According to an official bulletin, Jaipur, Jodhpur and Sikar reported two deaths each and Ajmer, Churu, Karauli, Kota and Pali recorded one death each.

Jaipur reported maximum of the fresh cases with 484 people contracting the virus there, PTI reported.

Coronavirus news: Andhra Pradesh reports 1,395 fresh COVID-19 cases, nine more deaths

Andhra Pradesh reported 1,395 fresh COVID-19 cases, taking the total to 8,56,159 on Tuesday.

In the 24 hours ending 9 am on Tuesday, as many as 2,293 patients got cured, increasing the total recoveries to 8,32,284.

Nine fresh fatalities took the overall toll to 6,890, PTI reported.

Coronavirus news: Madhya Pradesh's COVID-19 tally increases by 922, count by 10; 848 recover

Madhya Pradesh's COVID-19 caseload rose to 1,85,446 after 922 new infections were reported on Tuesday, while 10 fresh deaths pushed the count to 3,102, a health official said.

He said 848 people were discharged from hospitals in the last 24 hours, taking the state's recovery count to 1,73,284, PTI reported.

Coronavirus news: Iran reports record 13,352 new daily coronavirus cases

New coronavirus infections in Iran have risen by 13,352 in the past 24 hours, a daily record, taking the cumulative total to 788,473, the health ministry said on Tuesday.

Ministry spokeswoman Sima Sadat Lari told state TV that a near-record 482 people had died in the past 24 hours, pushing the death count in the Middle East's worst-hit country to 42,461.

Kerala Governor Arif Mohammed Khan has tested negative for Covid-19 and on Tuesday was discharged from the hospital where he was undergoing treatment.

Taking to Twitter he said: "My heartfelt gratitude to the doctors, nurses, and the supporting staff at Government Medical College and Hospital of Thiruvananthapuram, where I was admitted from November 9 to November 17. They looked after me with professionalism, utmost care, and love."

Coronavirus news: Russia says coronavirus mutations appearing in Siberia as deaths hit record daily high

Mutations in the coronavirus are appearing in Siberia, the head of Russia's consumer health watchdog said on Tuesday, as the country reported a record daily high of 442 deaths from COVID-19.

Covid-19 Updates: France regaining control over coronavirus but caution still needed, says Minister

France's health minister Olivier Veran said on Tuesday the country was regaining control over the coronavirus but was not ready to ease the second national lockdown imposed to rein in the disease. 

"If we let up our efforts too early, if we are less compliant with the lockdown, we might be subject to a new epidemic surge that would undo all the hard work done by the French people for several weeks," Veran told BFM TV.
