Coronavirus India Highlights: India Logs 14,146 Fresh Covid Cases, 144 New Deaths

Coronavirus Highlights: Active cases have declined to 1,95,846 and comprise 0.57 per cent of the total infections.

Coronavirus India Update: The national recovery rate is currently at 98.08 per cent.

New Delhi:

India witnessed its lowest daily Covid infections in nearly seven months as the country recorded 14,146 new infections today. The cumulative cases in the country has now risen to 3,40,67,719 while the number of deaths climbed to 4,52,124 with 144 more fatalities, according to the Union Health Ministry's data on Sunday.

Active cases have declined to 1,95,846 and comprise 0.57 per cent of the total infections. The national Covid recovery rate was recorded at 98.10 per cent, the data updated at 8 am showed.

Over 97.65 crore Covid vaccine doses have been administered in the country so far under the nationwide vaccination drive.

Covid-19: India's cumulative vaccination coverage exceeds 97.65 crore
India's cumulative COVID-19 vaccination coverage has reached the milestone of 97.65 crore doses, as per the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

"With the administration of 41,20,772 vaccine doses in the last 24 hours, India's COVID-19 vaccination coverage has exceeded 97.65 crores (97,65,89,540) as per provisional reports till 7 am today. This has been achieved through 96,46,485 sessions," read the release by the ministry.

Uttarakhand achieves target of 100% first dose vaccination: Chief Minister
Uttarakhand has administered the first dose of COVID-19 vaccine to its entire eligible population three months ahead of target, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said on Sunday.

He told a press conference that a total of 74 lakh people or 100 per cent of the eligible population across the state have been administered with the first dose of the vaccine against coronavirus.

Claiming that the target has been achieved three months in advance, the chief minister thanked all government, private and voluntary agencies involved in the exercise.

He also thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for raising the supply of vaccine doses to the state from August onwards.

Kerala reports 7,555 new COVID-19 cases
Kerala registered 7,555 fresh cases of COVID-19 and 74 related deaths on Sunday taking the total affected in the state to 48,45,115 and the count to 26,865.

State health minister Veena George said 73,157 samples were tested in the last 24 hours and there are 211 wards across 158 local self government bodies with a weekly infection population ratio over 10 per cent.

Among the districts, Thrissur reported the highest number of COVID-19 cases on Sunday--998, followed by neighbouring Ernakulam with 975 cases and Thiruvananthapuram with 953 cases.

Uttar Pradesh records 10 new cases; 42 districts in state COVID-free
Uttar Pradesh reported 10 new COVID-19 cases during the last 24 hours, as per the state government on Sunday.

During the last 24 hours, 1,41,543 samples were tested in the state. The positivity rate for the day stands at 0.007 per cent. Over 8.96 crore samples have been tested so far.

Currently, there are 119 active Covid cases in the state, as per the statement.

During the last 24 hours, 19 people recovered from the disease, taking the total recoveries to 16,87,011. The recovery rate currently stands at 98.8 per cent.

As per the state Health Secretary, 42 districts in the state are COVID-free, while 67 districts did not report any new cases on Sunday.

Odisha records 443 more COVID-19 cases; Khurda dist accounts for 54.85 per cent of new infections

Odisha added 443 new COVID-19 cases, 85 more than the previous day, which took the state's tally to 10,35,077, a health department official said.

Three fresh fatalities -- one each in Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur and Sundergarh -- pushed the toll to 8,285, the official said.

Of the 443 new patients, 75 are children and adolescents in the age group of 0 to 18 years.

The rate of infection among children and adolescents stands at 16.93 per cent.

Australia orders two more COVID-19 treatments amid battle against 3rd wave

The Australian government has secured access to two new COVID-19 treatments as the country continues to battle the third wave of infections.

Health Minister Greg Hunt on Sunday announced the government has purchased 15,000 doses of the antibody-based therapy, Ronapreve, which can be administered intravenously for COVID-19 patients in a health care facility and is expected to be targeted for use in unvaccinated people who are at risk of developing severe disease.

Puducherry adds 52 new Covid-19 cases, 1 death

Puducherry reported 52 fresh coronavirus cases during the last 24 hours raising overall tally to 1,27,396, a senior official of the Department of Health said on Sunday.

One patient died in Mahe pushing the total number of deaths to 1,850,  Director of the Department of Health G Sriramulu said.

Melbourne to ease world's longest COVID-19 lockdowns as vaccinations rise

Melbourne, which has spent more time under COVID-19 lockdowns than any other city in the world, is set to lift its stay-at-home orders this week, officials said on Sunday.

By Friday, when some curbs will be lifted, the Australian city of 5 million people will have been under six lockdowns totalling 262 days, or nearly nine months, since March 2020.

Australian and other media say this is the longest in the world, exceeding a 234-day lockdown in Buenos Aires. 

While coronavirus cases keep rising in Victoria state, of which Melbourne is the capital, the state's double-vaccination rate is set to reach 70% this week, allowing for the ease in restrictions.

264 COVID-19 cases, 6 deaths in Karnataka
Karnataka on Saturday added 264 fresh cases and six fatalities, taking the caseload and deaths to 29,83,133 and 37,937, the health department said. The day also saw 421 people being discharged, pushing the total number of recoveries to 29,35,659. Active cases stood at 9,508, a health department bulletin said.

Bengaluru Urban accounted for the maximum number of 121 cases and three deaths, it said.

Other districts too reported fresh cases, including 34 in Dakshina Kannada, 21 in Mysuru, 16 in Hassan, 12 in Kodagu and 10 in Udupi.

One death each was reported in Gadag, Mysuru and Udupi.

Bagalkote, Ballari, Belagavi, Bidar, Chitradurga, Davangere, Dharwad, Koppal and Vijayapura reported zero infections and zero COVID-19 related deaths.

Twenty-seven districts reported zero fatalities, the bulletin said.

Coronavirus India Updates: Punjab records 16 new covid cases

Punjab recorded 16 new COVID-19 cases on Saturday that took the infection tally to 6,02,008, while one more fatality pushed the deaths to 16,541, according to a medical bulletin.

The only Covid-related death was reported from Mansa, it said.

Of the new cases, three each were recorded in Jalandhar and Pathankot followed by two each in Amritsar and Ferozpur, the bulletin said, adding the number of active cases stands at 219.

Twenty-four people recovered from the infection, taking the number of those who have been cured to 5,85,248, according to the bulletin.

Chandigarh reported two new cases on Saturday, taking the infection count to 65,299, the bulletin said, adding the death toll in the city stands at 820.

Assam reported 269 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, as per a health bulletin issued by the state government on Saturday. According to the health bulletin, a positivity rate of 0.82 per cent was recorded in the last 24 hours. During the same duration, 290 people recovered from the disease while 5 people lost their lives to the deadly virus. The current recovery rate in the state stands at 98.45 per cent and the fatality rate is at 0.98 per cent. At present, there are 2,135 active cases in the state.

Coronavirus LIVE Updates: Gujarat Records 22 Fresh COVID-19 Cases
Gujarat on Saturday reported 22 new coronavirus positive cases, taking its tally of infections to 8,26,280, the state health department said. With no fresh COVID-19 fatality, the death count remained unchanged at 10,086 in Gujarat, the department said in a release. With 21 patients being discharged during the day, the count of recoveries in the state went up to 8,15,981, it said, adding Gujarat is now left with 213 active cases. A total 2.96 lakh people were vaccinated on Saturday, taking the total number of doses administered against COVID-19 in Gujarat to 6.67 crore so far.

Coronavirus LIVE Updates: Nagaland Reports 24 New COVID-19 Cases
Nagaland reported 24 new COVID-19 cases on Saturday, pushing the tally to 31,751. The COVID-19 recovery rate in the state now is 93.88 per cent. Nagaland currently has 236 active COVID-19 cases. The COVID-19 death count remained at 674 as no new fatality was reported in the last 24 hours.
