New Delhi:
India recorded lowest daily rise in Covid cases since early March with 14,146 fresh infections on Sunday. 144 deaths were recorded in the country due to coronavirus, which took the total death count to 4,52,124.
The number of active cases have declined to 1,95,846 and comprise 0.57 per cent of the total infections
The national COVID-19 recovery rate was recorded at 98.10 per cent, highest since March 2020. 19,788 recoveries in the last 24 hours took the total number of recoveries to 3,34,19,749 in India.
The daily positivity rate - number of positive cases identified per 100 - stands at 1.29 per cent, less than 3 per cent for last 48 days. The weekly positivity rate stands at 1.42 per cent in India.
A total of 11,00,123 tests were conducted on Saturday, taking the cumulative tests conducted so far to 59,09,35,381 in the country.

COVID-19: Day after zero death, Mumbai reports 4 new fatalities, 373 fresh cases
A day after reporting zero COVID-19 death for the first time since March 2020, Mumbai registered four fresh fatalities linked to coronavirus on Monday and 373 new cases of the infection, a civic official said.
With this, Mumbai's caseload has reached 7,51,181, while the death count increased to 16,184, he said.
Notably, for the third day in a row, Mumbai's daily COVID-19 case count remained below the 400-mark.
On Sunday, the financial capital had not reported any fresh death due to COVID-19 for the first time since the pandemic broke out in March last year.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman highlights need to keep supply chains open for vaccine raw materials to combat COVID-19
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has highlighted the need of international financial architecture to fight the COVID-19 pandemic across the globe and stressed on the importance to keep the supply chains open for vaccine raw materials.
Sitharaman, participating in the 36th Annual G30 International Banking Seminar virtually here on Sunday, spoke on the panel about Financing the Commons, Climate and pandemic security, the Finance Ministry tweeted.
She "stressed on focused mobilisation and #equitableallocation of finances and #techsolutions to successfully harness the global #commongood of #climate and #pandemic security," it said.
Sitharaman highlighted the need for international financial architecture to fight the COVID-19 pandemic across the globe and supported the need for new financial instruments to focus and press forward green initiatives. She underlined the need for the World Health Organisation (WHO) to be strengthened for a more effective response to new challenges.
The minister stressed on the need to keep open supply chains for vaccine raw materials, the ministry said.

Puducherry adds 28 new Covid cases, test positivity rate dips below 1%
The union territory of Puducherry added 28 new coronavirus cases and registered less than one per cent test positivity rate during the last 24 hours, a senior official of the Department of Health said.
The test positivity rate was 0.73 per cent and the number of fresh cases also declined to 28 taking the overall tally to 1,27,424, Director of the Health Department G Sriramulu said in a release.
No fresh fatality was reported from any of the four regions -Puducherry, Karaikal, Mahe and Yanam -, the Director said, adding the fatalities remained at 1,850.
The 28 fresh cases, identified at the end of the examination of 3,846 samples, were spread over Puducherry (24), Karaikal (three) and Mahe (one), he said.

Mizoram records dip in single-day COVID-19 cases
Mizoram today registered 249 new COVID-19 cases, the lowest in two months, raising the tally to 1,12,84, while three fresh fatalities pushed the toll to 386, a health department official said.'
On Sunday, the state had registered 948 new cases and the day before 932 infections.
According to the official, the single-day tally is usually less on Mondays as several testing centres, including the RT-PCR laboratory at Zoram Medical College (ZMC), remain closed on Sundays.
Mizoram, however, has been recording below-1000 single-day infections over the past four days, bringing some relief to the administration and people.

Mix-and-match vaccines highly effective against COVID-19: Lancet study
People who received a first dose of the Oxford-AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine followed by an mRNA vaccine shot had a lower risk of infection compared to those immunised with both doses of the AstraZeneca preventive, according to a nationwide study in Sweden.
Since the use of AstraZeneca's vector-based vaccine against COVID-19 was halted for people younger than 65 years of age due to safety concerns, all individuals in Sweden who had already received their first dose of this vaccine were recommended an mRNA vaccine as their second dose.
"Having received any of the approved vaccines is better compared to no vaccine, and two doses are better than one," said Peter Nordstrom, a professor at Umea University, Sweden.

Maharashtra CM to chair meeting of state's Covid task force today
Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray will chair a crucial meeting of the state's Covid task force today.
This comes a day after Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope said that the Chief Minister along with the health department and the task force will take a decision on relaxing COVID-19 restrictions in the state after Diwali. Meanwhile, Maharashtra reported 1,715 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours. The total active cases in the state stand at 28,631, as per the state health bulletin on Sunday.

Andaman & Nicobar reports more single-day COVID-19 recoveries than fresh cases
Andaman and Nicobar Islands reported more single-day COVID-19 recoveries than fresh cases as two more persons recuperated from the disease while one new infection pushed the tally in the union territory to 7,642, a health department official said.
The single new case was detected during contact tracing on Sunday, he said.
The archipelago now has eight active COVID-19 case and all the patients are in the South Andaman district of which the capital Port Blair is a part. The other two districts - North and Middle Andaman and Nicobar Islands - are COVID-19 free, the official said.
A total of 7,505 people have so far recovered from COVID-19.

182 new COVID-19 cases in Maharashtra's Thane, 1 death
Thane has reported 182 new cases of coronavirus, taking the infection count in the Maharashtra district to 5,63,381, an official said.
Besides these new cases added on Sunday, one death due to the viral infection was also reported, which raised the fatality toll in the district to 11,459, he said. The COVID-19 mortality rate in Thane stood at 2.03 per cent, he added.
In neighbouring Palghar district, the COVID-19 case count has gone up to 1,37,459, while the death toll stands at 3,279, another official said.

Merck seeks US authorization for Covid treatment pill
US pharmaceutical giant Merck on Monday applied for emergency use authorization of its oral anti-Covid drug in the United States, a major step towards finding a simple pill to treat the disease. Merck has submitted the application for molnupiravir, which it said earlier this month was shown to reduce hospitalizations by 50 percent.
It also prevented 100 percent of deaths compared to a placebo, but the sample size was relatively small and the figure can't yet be reliably extrapolated.
Merck, which is called MSD outside the United States and Canada, said it was working "with regulatory agencies worldwide to submit applications for emergency use or marketing authorization in the coming months."

COVID-19: Delhi records zero death, 32 new cases; positivity rate 0.07%
Delhi recorded zero death due to COVID-19 and 32 fresh cases of the infection with a positivity rate of 0.07 per cent, according to the health bulletin issued by the government.
Two fatalities due to COVID-19 have been recorded so far this month in the city, on October 2 and 10, according to official data.
Only five Covid-related fatalities were reported last month, one each on September 7, 16, and 17, and two on September 28, according to official figures. The death toll due to coronavirus in Delhi stands at 25,089.
