India on Monday reported at least 6,915 new COVID-19 cases--14 per cent lower than yesterday's daily spike of over 8,000 cases. According to Union Health Ministry, India's total tally of COVID-19 cases rose to 4,29,24,130.

The death count climbed to 5,13,843 with 119 fresh fatalities, the data updated on Monday stated. Kerala added 46 deaths as backlog to the tally.

The daily COVID-19 cases have remained less than one lakh for 23 consecutive days.

The active cases, comprising 0.22 per cent of the total infections, dipped to 92,472, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate has marginally improved to 98.59 per cent, the ministry said.

Madhya Pradesh Reports 285 Covid Cases, Two Deaths
The COVID-19 case tally in Madhya Pradesh rose to 10,39,192 on Tuesday after 285 new cases were reported, a health department official said.

The death count went up to 10,729 with two deaths recorded since previous evening.

The positivity rate stands at 0.5 percent.

The recovery count stood at 10,25,342 after 611 people recovered during the day.

The state now has 3,121 active patients.

Bhopal and Indore, the two worst-affected cities, registered 64 and 19 cases, respectively, during the past 24 hours.

With 53,806 samples examined during the day, the number of tests conducted so far went up to 2,79,45,895.

A government release said 11,37,28,205 COVID-19 vaccine doses have been administered so far in the state, including 5,758 on Tuesday.

Mumbai records 77 new COVID-19 cases, no death
Mumbai recorded 77 new cases of COVID-19, 135 recoveries and no fresh casualties on Tuesday, an official from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said.

With this, the tally of infections in the city has risen to 10,56,549.

As many as 10,36,221 patients have recovered so far in the metropolis. The death count stands at 16,691.

The city has not recorded a single death due to the viral infection in the last five days.

There are 757 active cases in Mumbai now.

The recovery rate in Mumbai city is 98 per cent, while the caseload doubling period has increased to 5,279 days.

COVID-19: J&K reports 55 fresh cases
With 55 fresh cases, Jammu and Kashmir's COVID-19 tally climbed to 4,53,052 on Tuesday, while no death due to the viral disease was reported in the Union Territory in the last 24 hours, officials said.

Of the fresh cases, 29 were reported from the Jammu division and 26 from the Kashmir division, they added.

The officials said Jammu district recorded the highest number of 23 cases, followed by 17 in Srinagar district.

There are 614 active cases of the infection in the Union Territory, while the number of patients who have recuperated is 4,47,690, the officials said.

Goa logs 21 new COVID-19 cases; active infections at 237
Goa on Tuesday reported 21 fresh cases of coronavirus and one fatality due to the infection, which raised the tally to 2,45,040 and count to 3,822, an official from the state health department said.

As per a health bulletin, 54 patients were discharged from hospitals during the day, taking the count of recoveries to 2,40,981, he said.

The coastal state is now left with 237 active cases, he said.

With the addition of 1,594 samples tested during the day, the total number of tests conducted in the coastal state has gone up to 18,83,624, the official added.

India May See Fourth Covid Wave From June, Peak In August: Study
The fourth wave of the COVID-19 pandemic in India may start around June 22 and peak from mid-to-late August, a modelling study by researchers at the Indian Institute of Technology-Kanpur suggests.

The yet-to-be peer-reviewed study, recently posted on the preprint repository MedRxiv, used a statistical model to make the prediction, finding that the possible new wave will last for four months.

The study led by Sabara Parshad Rajeshbhai, Subhra Sankar Dhar, and Shalabh of IIT Kanpur's Department of Mathematics and Statistics shows that the severity of the fourth wave will depend on the emergence of a possible new coronavirus variant, and vaccination status across the country.

Railways Resume General Class Passenger Services Suspended Due To Covid
The railways on Monday announced the resumption of general class passenger services which were suspended due to the coronavirus crisis.

The railways had been running fully reserved 'special trains' during the pandemic to prevent crowding in trains so as to contain the spread of the disease. Even the general second class coaches, mostly used by people on short distances and from economically backward sections, were made reserved coaches.

"In trains already restored with regular train numbers, second class accommodation shall be earmarked reserved or unreserved as per applicability during pre-pandemic period," it said in a circular.

Arunachal logs 14 new COVID-19 cases, tally rises to 64,427
Arunachal Pradesh's COVID-19 tally rose to 64,427 on Tuesday as 14 more people tested positive for the infection, a senior health official said.

The coronavirus death toll remained unchanged at 296 as no fresh fatality was recorded, State Surveillance Officer (SSO) Dr Lobsang Jampa said.

The Delhi zoo reopened for visitors on Tuesday after remaining closed for around two months in view of a spike in coronavirus cases in the capital, officials said on Tuesday.

The zoo was closed for the public on January 4 and the online ticket booking link on its website was disabled.

Covid Update: 2 deaths, 45 fresh virus cases in Punjab
