India recorded a total of 1,088 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, taking the coronavirus tally to 4,30,38,016. According to Union Health Ministry, the country also reported at least 26 Covid-related deaths on Wednesday, bringing the total number of fatalities to 5,21,736.
However, the number of active cases of the infection has further declined to 11,058.
The active cases account for 0.03 per cent of the total caseload, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate remained at 98.76 per cent.
A reduction of 19 cases was recorded in the active caseload in a span of 24 hours.
The daily positivity rate was recorded at 0.25 per cent and the weekly positivity rate was 0.23 per cent, according to the ministry. The number of people who have recuperated from the disease has gone up to 4,25,02,454, while the case fatality rate was recorded at 1.21 per cent.

The Indian Consulate in Shanghai has announced the suspension of in-person consular services as China's gleaming business hub with 26 million people struggled with mounting COVID-19 cases, putting the country's dynamic zero-case policy to the test.

Delhi recorded 299 fresh cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday - a rise of nearly 50 percent since yesterday (202). With this, the national capital's caseload has increased to 18,66,881.
The national capital has seen an uptick in cases in the last few days after recording a steady decline over the last two months.
While no death due to the highly contagious disease was reported in the last 24 hours, the daily positivity rate has gone up to 2.49 per cent, takiing the cumulative rate to 4.98 per cent.
The Delhi High Court has closed proceedings initiated by it in 2020 relating to disposal of bodies of those who died of COVID-19, saying the situation has undergone a "sea change" with the passage of time and the matter has lost its relevance now.

New COVID-19 variants will keep coming, however, the new variants aren't causing severe diseases or increasing the number of cases said Chairman of the COVID-19 working group of India said.
