India today recorded 17,092 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of COVID-19 cases to 4,34,86,326. According to the Union Health Ministry data, the active cases rose to 109,568 today.
India also recorded 29 Covid-related deaths in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of coronavirus fatalities to 5,25,168.
The active cases comprise 0.21 per cent of the total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate was 98.58 per cent, the ministry said.

Mumbai on Saturday recorded 811 new COVID-19 cases and two deaths, the city's civic body said. The death count now stands at 19,614, it added. Mumbai is now left with 8,610 active cases.
The death count due to COVID-19 in West Bengal increased to 21,222 on Saturday after three more patients died due to the infection in the last 24 hours, a health department bulletin said. The state added 1,499 fresh cases, it said. The positivity rate stood at 14.94 per cent. Kolkata reported 550 new cases, the bulletin stated. West Bengal now has 9,290 active cases and 20,02,151 people, including 483 in the last 24 hours, have recovered from the disease in the state, it said. (PTI)
Maharashtra on Saturday recorded 2,971 new coronavirus cases and five pandemic-related deaths, the state health department said. Mumbai reported 811 new cases and two deaths. The state's overall COVID-19 case count increased to 79,82,334, while the number of deaths rose to 1,47,934.
Karnataka on Saturday registered 975 new COVID-19 cases and one death, taking the total number of cases to 39,71,459 and casualties to 40,077 respectively, the health department said. The day also saw 668 people being discharged, taking the total number of recoveries to 39,24,900. Active cases in the state stood at 6,440, a health department bulletin said.
Two new cases of Covid were recently found in Wuhan, where the virus first emerged, though Chinese President Xi Jinping emphasised on the zero-Covid policy during his visit to the city last week.
According to the Chinese publication Daily Mail, two port workers in Wuhan have been reported as showing signs of asymptomatic infection in the first confirmed cases there in a month.
COVID-19 returned to the central Chinese city where it first emerged just days after Xi Jinping visited the sprawling city and reinstated his desire to see whole cities locked down and subject to harsh restrictions in order to contain the virus, the Daily Mail reported.
Delhi records 678 new Covid cases, two deaths; positivity rate stands at 3.98 per cent.
Odisha recorded 231 new cases on Friday, 27 more than the previous day, the highest in four months, taking the tally to 12,90,192, the health department said.
There are 1,035 active COVID-19 cases, the first time since March 11 that the current infections were above the 1,000 mark.
The daily test positivity rate rose to 1.7 per cent out of 13,628 samples.
Khurda district reported the highest number of new cases at 99, followed by 35 in Cuttack. Thirty children were among the new infections.
The count remained at 9,126 as there were no fresh deaths. Sixty-eight more people have recuperated from COVID-19, taking the total number of recoveries to 12,79,978.
On February 27, the state had logged 251 new cases.
Ladakh reported 11 new Covid cases that pushed the infection tally to 28,429, officials said today.
The Ladakh administration on Friday had ordered a 15-day summer vacation in all government and private schools in Leh district from July 4 amid a spike in Covid cases.
The Ladakh Children Festival, scheduled from July 4-16, has also been postponed amid rising cases over the past month, officials said.
All the new cases were detected in Leh, taking the active cases in the district to 82, officials said.
There was no active case in Kargil district where the last Covid patient was discharged on Wednesday, they said.
Eight more patients were discharged in Leh on Friday taking the overall recoveries in Ladakh to 28,119, officials said.
Ladakh has so far recorded 228 fatalities linked to the pandemic since its outbreak. Of the total fatalities, Leh accounts for the highest 168 deaths followed by 60 in Kargil.
In an order, District Magistrate, Leh, Shrikant Balasahib Suse said, "In the wake of the recent spike in the Covid cases, especially among children, it will appropriate to pre-pone the summer vacations in all government and private schools in Leh district as a measure to break the chain of infection".
Thane district in Maharashtra has reported 546 new coronavirus positive cases, taking its infection tally to 7,28,511, a health official said today.
With the addition of these cases on Friday, there are now 5,110 active cases in the district, he said.
As one patient died due to the infection during the day, the fatality count reached 11,907, while the number of recovered patients has gone up to 7,10,948, the official added.
