Coronavirus Highlights: India Records Over 17,000 New Covid Cases, 13 Deaths In 24 Hours

India COVID-19 Live: The daily positivity rate was recorded at 3.94 per cent and the weekly positivity rate at 2.90 per cent, the ministry said.

New Delhi:

India has recorded 17,336 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of coronavirus infections to 4,33,62,294. According to Union Health Ministry data, the number of active cases increased to 88,284 in the country.

India also reported 13 new Covid related deaths in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of fatalities to 5,24,954.

The active cases comprise 0.19 per cent of the total infections. The national COVID-19 recovery rate was recorded at 98.60 per cent, the Health Ministry said.

Active cases have increased by 4,294 in a span of 24 hours.

The daily positivity rate was recorded at 3.94 per cent and the weekly positivity rate at 2.90 per cent, the ministry said.

Three fresh COVID-19 cases in Sikkim
Sikkim's COVID-19 tally rose to 39,203 on Friday as three more people tested positive for the infection, a health bulletin said.

The new cases were reported in East Sikkim.

Sikkim now has 14 active cases, while 37,985 people have recovered from the disease, 453 patients have succumbed to the infection and 751 have migrated to other states so far.

Telangana registers 493 new COVID-19 cases

Telangana on Friday recorded 493 new COVID-19 cases, taking the overall caseload to 7,98,125.

The state capital region accounted for the most number of cases with Hyderabad district reporting 366 new infections, while its neighbouring Medchal-Malkajgiri and Ranga Reddy districts witnessed 34 and 40 cases, respectively.

A health department bulletin said 219 people recuperated from the infection and the total number of recoveries till date was 7,90,692.

The recovery rate slipped to 99.07 per cent.

Gujarat logs 380 new COVID-19 cases; active tally at 2,098

Gujarat's coronavirus caseload rose to 12,29,289 on Friday, after 380 new infections were detected in the last 24 hours, an official from the state health department.

The toll remained unchanged at 10,946, while the count of recoveries rose to 12,16,245 after 209 patients recovered from the infection, the official said.

With this, the state currently has 2,098 active cases, he said.

Coronavirus India Updates: Madhya Pradesh records 95 COVID-19 cases, no deaths

Madhya Pradesh on Friday recorded 95 new coronavirus infections but no pandemic-related death.

The caseload in the state rose to 10,43,899 while death toll remained unchanged at 10,740, the state health department said.

Positivity rate or number of cases found per 100 tests rose to 1.1 per cent from 1.0 per cent on Thursday.

The recovery count increased by 70 to touch 10,32,677, leaving the state with 482 active cases.

Active COVID-19 cases near 6,000-mark in Tamil Nadu

Tamil Nadu on Friday added 1,359 new COVID-19 infections raising the total to 34,65,490 till date, the health department said.

There were no new fatalities reported in the last 24 hours with the overall death toll remaining unchanged at 38,026, a medical bulletin said.

As many as 621 people have recovered in the last 24 hours, aggregating to 34,21,552 leaving 5,912 active cases.

The fresh cases include four returnees from the United States of America, Karnataka and Maharashtra.

Nashik sees 49 new COVID-19 cases; active tally at 240

As many as 49 new cases of COVID-19 were detected in Maharashtra's Nashik district, taking the tally of infections to 4,76,605 on Friday, a health official said.

The toll remained unchanged at 8,899, while the count of recoveries reached 4,67,466 after 33 patients were discharged from hospitals during the day, he said.

With this, the district is left with 240 active cases, the official added.

Jammu and Kashmir logs 54 fresh COVID-19 cases

Jammu and Kashmir on Friday reported 54 new cases of COVID-19, taking the overall infection tally in the union territory to 4,54,677, officials said here.

While Jammu division reported 35 cases, Kashmir valley recorded 19, they said.

The death toll due to the virus in the union territory stood at 4,755 as no fatality was reported in the past 24 hrs, they said.

There are total 250 active cases of COVID-19 in the union territory, they said.

Meanwhile, the number of recoveries till Friday stand at 4,49,672.

Coronavirus LIVE Updates: Mumbai reports 1,898 COVID-19 cases, two deaths

Mumbai on Friday recorded 1,898 new coronavirus infections and two pandemic-related fatalities, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said in a bulletin.

The daily COVID-19 cases dipped by 581 compared to Thursday's figure.

The caseload in the city rose to 11,03,760, and death toll reached 19,591.

On Thursday, the financial capital of the county had reported 2,479 cases and one fatality.

Of 1,898 new COVID-19 patients, 1,802 were asymptomatic.

Covid: 5 new cases in Ladakh

Ladakh recorded five fresh Covid cases that took the infection tally to 28,339 on Tuesday, officials said.

Five more patients were cured and discharged from hospitals, taking the overall recoveries to 28,074, they said, adding that all new cases were recorded in Leh.

So far, 228 people have succumbed to COVID-19 in Ladakh. Of these, 168 deaths were reported from Leh and 60 from Kargil, according to officials.

Goa logs 149 new COVID-19 cases; active tally at 926

Goa on Friday recorded 149 new cases of COVID-19 that raised the tally of infections to 2,47,820, an official from the state health department said.

At least 128 were discharged from hospitals during the day, taking the count of recoveries to 2,43,061, while the toll remained unchanged at 3,833, the official said.

The coastal state is now left with 926 active cases, he said.

Coronavirus LIVE Updates: Puducherry logs 42 new COVID-19 cases

The Union Territory of Puducherry registered 42 new COVID-19 cases, raising the overall tally to 1,66,209, a senior health official said on Friday.

Director of Health G Sriramulu, in a release, said the 42 new cases emerged after examination of 1,628 samples in the last 24 hours in the UT.

He said there were 182 active cases with two patients admitted in hospital and the remaining 180 patients recovering in home quarantine.

Odisha's active COVID-19 cases rise to 391

Odisha recorded 61 new COVID-19 cases on Friday, taking the tally to 12,89,129, the Health Department said.

The toll remained at 9,126 as there were no fresh deaths. There are 391 active cases in the state at present.

In the last 24 hours, 24 more people recovered from the disease, taking the total recoveries to 12,79,559.

Maharashtra's Thane District Sees Daily Case Count Cross 1,000-Mark After Months

After a gap of several months, the single-day COVID-19 infection count in Thane district of Maharashtra has once again crossed the 1,000-mark with the addition of 1,089 cases, an official said today.

These cases were reported on Thursday, which took the overall tally in the district to 7,22,804.

As the virus claimed the lives of two persons during the day, the death count in the district went up to 11,902, the official said, adding that the mortality rate is 1.67 per cent.

Andaman and Nicobar Reports 6 New COVID-19 Cases In 24 Hours

Andaman and Nicobar Islands reported six new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, pushing the tally in the union territory to 10,114, a health department official said today.

The archipelago now has 35 active COVID-19 cases, he said.

Five more persons recovered from COVID-19, taking the total number of recoveries to 9,950.

The COVID-19 death count remained at 129.

The union territory had reported five COVID-19 cases on Thursday, the official added.

COVID-19 vaccines prevented over 42 lakh potential deaths in India in 2021, said a study published in The Lancet Infectious Diseases journal, which based its findings on estimates of "excess" mortalities in the country during the pandemic.
