India on Wednesday reported 1,086 new Covid cases, with which the country's active cases currently stand at 11,871, according to the Union Health Ministry data. The country recorded 71 Covid deaths during the same period, data showed.
The ministry said that the active cases comprise 0.03 per cent of the total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate remained at 98.76 per cent.
The daily positivity rate was recorded as 0.23 per cent and the weekly positivity rate was 0.22 per cent, according to the ministry.
The number of people who have recuperated from the disease surged to 4,24,97,567.

The disclosure of new Covid variants emerging in China and the rise of a potentially more transmissible strain in the U.K. has recast the spotlight on the ongoing risk of the virus, even as health experts say there's no reason to panic.
The World Health Organization said a hybrid of two omicron strains -- BA.1 and BA.2 -- that was first detected in the U.K. and dubbed XE could be the most transmissible variant yet.
