India today reported a total of 7,240 new coronavirus infections, taking the overall tally of COVID-19 cases in the country to 4,31,97,522, the Health Ministry said.
The daily positivity rate of 1.62 per cent was observed in the last 24 hours, while the weekly positivity rate was recorded to be 0.91 per cent, the Health Ministry said.
The active COVID-19 cases rose to 32,498 and the number of deaths due to Covid climbed to 5,24,723 with 8 deaths in the last 24 hours, according to the government data.

Goa on Thursday reported 67 new coronavirus positive cases, taking the cumulative infection count in the state to 2,46,259, a health department official said.
The death count due to the virus remained unchanged at 3,832 as no fatality was reported during the day.
A total of 42 patients were discharged from hospitals on Thursday, taking the recovery count to 2,42,026, the official said, adding that there are 401 active cases in the coastal state at present.
Jammu and Kashmir reported 13 new Covid cases on Thursday that took the infection tally to 4,54,314, officials said.
Of the new cases, eight were reported from Jammu district while five other districts reported one case each, they said.
There are 68 active cases, while overall of recoveries have reached 4,49,494, officials said.
Tamil Nadu logged 185 fresh Coronavirus positives cases on Thursday taking the caseload to 34,56,697.
The death count however continued to remain at 38,025, as no fatalities were reported today also.
Including 129 people who were discharged after treatment in the last 24 hours, the total recoveries increased to 34,17,595 till date, a bulletin from the State Health Department said.
One passenger each from Kenya, US and Maharashtra added to 185 infections, taking the active cases to 1,077 from 1,021 a day ago. Among those who tested positive, were 99 men and 86 women, the bulletin said.
The COVID-19 tally in Madhya Pradesh reached 10,42,928 on Thursday with the addition of 53 cases, while the death count was unchanged at 10,737 as no fatality was recorded in the last 24 hours, a health official said.
The positivity rate was 0.7 per cent, while the recovery count increased by 22 to touch 10,31,915, leaving the state with 276 active cases.
With 7,052 samples examined during the day, the number of tests in MP went up to 2,93,65,999, he said.
Maharashtra on Thursday recorded 2,813 new coronavirus cases, highest in nearly four months, and one pandemic-related death, the state health department said.
The number of active cases rose to 11,571.
State capital Mumbai recorded 1,702 infections and the lone death during the day.
The daily rise in cases was the highest since February 15 when 2,831 infections had come to light.
Odisha recorded 31 new coronavirus cases on Thursday, 12 more than the previous day, with the tally rising to 12,88,576, a health department bulletin said.
The death count remained at 9,126 as no new fatality due to the infection was reported in the last 24 hours.
Fifty-three other coronavirus patients have died due to comorbidities so far, according to the bulletin.
The lack of masks at airports and in flights has been made actionable again as Covid numbers started climbing in parts of the country. The civil aviation regulator DGCA today said passengers who refuse to comply can be de-boarded ahead of take-off or treated as unruly passengers. The Union Territory of Puducherry logged four fresh COVID-19 cases during the last 24 hours taking the overall tally to 1,65,914, a senior official of the Department of Health said today.
There were no fatalities from any of the four regions in the last 24 hours ending 10 AM Thursday, Director of Health G Sriramulu said in a release, adding that the death count remained at 1,962.
The number of active cases stood at 35, he said.
Two patients recovered during the last 24 hours, he said, adding that the overall recoveries rose to 1,63,917.
The Department of Health has so far examined 22,61,418 and found 19,06,229 out of them to be negative.
The test positivity rate was 0.46 per cent while the fatality and recovery rates were 1.18 per cent and 98.80 per cent respectively.
The Health Department has so far administered 17,15,932 doses which comprised 9,68,019 first doses, 7,22,704 second doses and 25,209 booster doses.
The COVID-19 tally of Andaman and Nicobar Islands rose to 10,053 today as one more person tested positive for the infection, a health bulletin said.
The fresh infection was detected during contact tracing, it said.
The Union territory now has six active cases, while 9,918 people have recovered from the disease, and 129 patients have succumbed to the infection to date.
The administration has thus far tested over 7.42 lakh samples and fully vaccinated 3.40 lakh people.
Maharashtra's Thane district has reported 440 new COVID-19 cases, raising its infection count to 7,12,366, an official said today.
These new cases were recorded on Wednesday, a steep rise of more than 100 cases compared to the tally on Tuesday.
The death count in the district remained unchanged at 11,895 and the COVID-19 mortality rate stood at 1.67 per cent, the official said.
