Coronavirus Highlights: India Records 4,575 New Covid Cases, 14.5% Higher Than Yesterday

India Covid Highlights: The daily COVID-19 cases have remained less than one lakh for 31 consecutive days, and it is the third straight day the new case count has been under 5,000 cases.

India Covid Cases: With 145 fresh fatalities, the death count climbed to 5,15,355 so far.

India today reported a total of 4,575 new COVID-19 infections, taking the Covid tally to 4,29,75,883. According to the Union Health Ministry data, the active cases dipped to 46,962.

With 145 fresh fatalities, the death count climbed to 5,15,355 so far. Of the new deaths, 100 were added as backlog in Kerala.

The daily COVID-19 cases have remained less than one lakh for 31 consecutive days, and it is the third straight day the new case count has been under 5,000 cases.

Yesterday, the country recorded 3,993 new Covid cases, the lowest daily spike in 662 days.

The active cases comprise 0.11 per cent of the total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate has marginally improved to 98.69 per cent, the ministry said.

Delhi records 208 new Covid cases, 1 death

Delhi reported 208 new coronavirus cases and one more fatality while the positivity rate marginally declined to 0.46 per cent, according to data shared by the health department on Wednesday. 

With this, the national capital's case count increased to 18,62,255, while the deaths rose to 26,140, the latest health bulletin stated. The number of COVID-19 tests conducted a day ago stood at 45,038, it said.

Delhi on Tuesday recorded 177 Covid cases and two fatalities, while the positivity rate stood at 0.51 per cent.

On Monday, the national capital had reported 158 fresh COVID-19 cases and three deaths, while the positivity rate stood at 0.49 per cent.

Delhi had on Sunday recorded 249 cases with a positivity rate of 0.59 per cent, and zero death. The city had recorded no Covid death on March 5 as well.

Over 179.51 Crore Covid vaccine doses administered in India so far: Centre

The cumulative COVID-19 vaccine doses administered in the country crossed 179.31 crore on Wednesday, the Union health ministry said. 

More than 15 lakh (15,95,870) vaccine doses have been administered till 7 pm, it said.

According to the ministry, more than 2.09 crore (2,09,37,264) precaution doses for the identified categories of beneficiaries (HCWs, FLWs and people over 60 years) for Covid vaccination have been administered so far.

The daily vaccination tally is expected to increase with the compilation of the final reports for the day by late night, it said.

Cumulatively, 55,29,57,961 first doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered to individuals in the 18-44 age group across states and Union Territories and 45,24,36,697 second doses have been given in the same age group since the start of phase 3 of the vaccination drive, according to ministry data.

The ministry further said that cumulatively 96,62,16,758 first doses have been administered and 80,60,84,441 second doses have been given.

Maharashtra reports 359 COVID-19 cases, zero deaths

Maharashtra on Wednesday reported 359 new coronavirus infections and zero pandemic-related fatalities, the state health department said. 

This is for the third time this month that the state recorded zero coronavirus deaths. 

The caseload of the state rose to 78,69,857, and death toll reached 1,43,745.

Of the eight administrative circles (each comprising several districts), Pune circle recorded 178 cases, followed by Mumbai (87), Nashik (43), Nagpur (18), Latur(13), Akola (nine), Kolhapur (six) and Aurangabad (five).

As many as 559 patients recovered since previous evening, taking the tally of recoveries to 77,19,100.

The recovery rate is 98.08 per cent. There are now 3,009 active patients in Maharashtra.

As many as 51,464 tests were conducted since previous evening, taking the tally of samples tested for coronavirus to date to 7,84,19,100.

Sikkim reports one more COVID-19 fatality

Sikkim reported one more COVID-19 fatality in the last 24 hours, taking the death count to 444, according to a health department bulletin on Wednesday.  The state also registered one more positive case, pushing the tally to 39,098, it said.

East Sikkim district logged the lone positive case.

The Himalayan state now has 30 active COVID-19 cases, while 37,878 people have recovered from the disease while 746 others have migrated to other states.

The COVID-19 daily positivity rate now is 0.4 per cent while the daily recovery rate is 98.8 per cent.

Mumbai records 54 COVID-19 cases, no death
Mumbai on Wednesday recorded 54 new coronavirus cases and zero pandemic-related fatalities. 

The caseload of the country's financial capital rose to 10,57,070, while death count remained unchanged at 16,692, a civic official said.

As many as 100 persons recovered from the infection during the day, taking the tally of recoveries to 10,37,074.

There are 421 active cases in the city now.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's data update showed that 14,071 samples were examined since previous evening, which took the number of coronavirus tests conducted in Mumbai to 1,63,30,160.

There are no sealed buildings or containment zones in the city at present.

Maharashtra's Nashik district sees 11 new COVID-19 cases

With the addition of 11 new cases of coronavirus, the tally of infections in Maharashtra's Nashik district reached 4,75,919 on Wednesday, an official said. 

At least 19 patients were discharged from hospitals and none died of the infection during the day, taking the count of recoveries to 4,66,845, while the death count stood at 8,899, he said. The district is now left with 175 active cases, the official said.

Of the total number of cases reported so far, 2,72,743 were from Nashik city, 1,77,053 from other parts of the district, 13,882 from Malegaon and 8,325 from outside the district, the administration said.

Delhi government directs Burari hospital to start non-Covid services
The Delhi government has given its nod for starting non-Covid services at the at state-run Burari hospital amid a decline in coronavirus positivity rate. 

The number of daily cases in Delhi has been on the decline after touching the record high of 28,867 on January 13.

The city had recorded a positivity rate of 30.6 per cent on January 14, the highest during the ongoing wave of the pandemic.

Delhi on Tuesday recorded 177 new Covid cases and two more fatalities, while the positivity rate stood at 0.51 per cent, according to data shared by the health department. 

"In view of the decrease in positivity rate of Covid cases in Delhi and sufficient Covid bed availability, the competent authority has approved to start non-Covid services at Burari Hospital with immediate effect," read the official order.

Kerala records 1,421 fresh COVID-19 cases, 88 deaths
Kerala on Wednesday recorded 1,421 fresh COVID-19 infections which raised the total caseload to 65,16,524.

Also, the southern state reported 88 deaths which raised the total fatalities to 66,462 till date, according to an official press release.

Of the deaths, four were reported in the last 24 hours, 13 occurred in the last few days but were not recorded due to late receipt of documents and 71 were designated as COVID-19 deaths after receiving appeals based on the new guidelines of the Centre and the directions of the Supreme Court, the release said.

With 2,130 more people recovering from the virus since Tuesday, the total recoveries reached 64,37,366 and the active cases dropped to 11,879, the release said.

As many as 29,754 samples were tested in the last 24 hours.

Among the 14 districts, Ernakulam recorded the highest with 304 cases, Kottayam (161) and Thiruvananthapuram (149), the release said.

Of the new cases, 14 were health workers, 64 from outside the State and 1,276 infected through contact with the source of it not being clear in 67, the release said.

70 new Covid-19 cases in Andhra Pradesh

Andhra Pradesh reported 70 fresh cases of Covid-19, 129 recoveries and no deaths in 24 hours ending 9 am on Wednesday. The latest bulletin said the number of active cases in the state now stood at 758. 

The cumulative positives is now 23,18,617, recoveries 23,03,130 and deaths 14,729.

Anantapuramu district registered 13 and Guntur 12 fresh cases while Srikakulam and Vizianagaram reported zero. 

The remaining nine districts added less than 10 new cases each.

Omicron wave in Singapore has peaked, infections now declining, says Health Minister: Report

The Omicron wave in Singapore has peaked and the number of infections across the country is now declining though the pandemic has been unpredictable, Health Minister Ong Ye Kung told Parliament on Wednesday. 

Speaking in Parliament during the debate on the health ministry's budget, Mr Ong also said once the coronavirus subsides the healthcare workers will finally have a well-deserved and lasting respite.

"There are now good indications that the Omicron transmission wave has peaked and is starting to subside. With that, I hope healthcare workers will finally have a well-deserved and lasting respite," Mr Ong was quoted as saying in a report by The Straits Times newspaper.

Flight service to Hyderabad, Bengaluru from Puducherry to resume from March 27

Flight service from Puducherry to Bengaluru and Hyderabad would be resumed on March 27.
A press release from the office of the Chief Minister N Rangasamy said on Wednesday that booking of tickets to the two cities has begun.

The services were suspended two years ago following the outbreak of Covid-19.

128 Covid cases, 1 death in Odisha

Odisha recorded 128 new coronavirus cases on Wednesday, while another patient died due to the pathogen, the Health Department said. 

The daily positivity rate was 0.28 per cent and 25 children were among the newly infected, it said, adding that 45,776 samples were tested in the past 24 hours, a bulletin stated.

The state had logged 108 infections and zero death on Tuesday.

The deaths rose to 9,102 with another fatality in Puri. These are confirmed as Covid deaths after an audit. Fifty-three other coronavirus patients have died due to comorbidities so far, according to data.

There are 1,110 active COVID-19 cases, while Keonjhar district has no coronavirus patient at present.

Hyderabad-based Biological E seeks Emergency Use Authorisation for Corbevax vaccine for ages 5-12
Hyderabad-based pharmaceutical company Biological E has applied for Emergency Use Authorisation (EUA) for its COVID-19 vaccine Corbevax for the 5-12 year age group, official sources said on Wednesday.

The data has been submitted by the company to the Subject Expert Committee, who recently recommended Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) for Biological E's Corbevax for the age group of 12 to 18 years under certain conditions.

The Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) is expected to give final EUA to Corbevax soon. 

The expected cost of the vaccine is Rs 145 excluding taxes. It will be administered two times within prescribed intervals. The sources told ANI that the Central government has already purchased about 5 crore Biological E vaccines Corbevax and also delivered them to some states.

Vaccine maker Biological E applied for the phase 2 and phase 3 clinical trials during the month of September 2021 last year.

India reported 4,575 new COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours, informed the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Wednesday.

The government data shows that the active caseload of the country has risen to 46,962 at present, which accounts for 0.11 per cent of total cases.

The daily positivity rate stands at 0.51 per cent while the weekly positivity rate is 0.62 per cent.

Yesterday, the country recorded 3,993 new Covid cases, the lowest daily spike in 662 days.
