Coronavirus Highlights: India Logs 2,527 Covid Cases In 24 Hours

India reported 2,527 new COVID-19 cases today, taking the overall cases so far to 4,30,54,952. The active Coronavirus cases in the country currently stands at 15,079, according to the Union health ministry. 33 new Covid-related deaths increased the total death count to 5,22,149.

Delhi reported 1,094 fresh Covid cases yesterday with a positivity rate of 4.64 per cent. Two more people also died due to the infection yesterday, official data said on Friday.

Meanwhile, the Delhi government said yesterday that people must wear mask in public places and that those those found in violation of the rule will be fined Rs 500. Those travelling in private cars, however, do not need to wear mask.

Not even one in four people have completely recovered from Covid a full year after being hospitalised with the disease, a UK study indicated Sunday, warning that long Covid could become a common condition. It also found that obese people were half as likely to fully recover, while those who needed mechanical ventilation were 58 percent less likely. 

The study looked at the health of people who were discharged from 39 British hospitals with Covid between March 2020 and April 2021, then assessed the recovery of 807 of them five months and one year later. Just 26% reported a full recovery after five months, and that number rose only slightly to 28.9% after a year, according to the study published in the Lancet Respiratory Medicine journal. (AFP)

Delhi reports 1,094 fresh COVID-19 cases
Delhi on Saturday reported 1,094 fresh COVID-19 infections, highest since February 10, and two deaths due to the disease as the positivity rate rose to 4.82 per cent, according to the health department.  

The national capital had recorded 1,104 fresh COVID-19 cases with a positivity rate of 2.09 per cent on February 10, while 12 people had succumbed to the infection.

Gujarat sees 8 COVID-19 cases, no death; active tally now 103
Gujarat on Saturday reported eight COVID-19 cases, comprising seven in Ahmedabad city and one in Vadodara, increasing the state's tally to 12,24,233, while the death toll remained unchanged at 10,943, a health department official said.

So far, 12,13,187 persons have been discharged, including three during the day, leaving the active caseload at 103, up from 98 a day earlier.

Mizoram Logs 112 New COVID-19 Cases In 24 Hours

Mizoram reported 112 fresh COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, pushing the tally to 2,26,702, a health department official said today.

The state did not report any new COVID-19 death for the third consecutive day today and the count remained at 694, he said.

The fresh cases were detected out of 858 samples tested with a single-day positivity rate of 13 per cent.

Mizoram currently has 672 active COVID-19 cases, while 2,25,336 people have recovered from the disease so far, the official said.

The COVID-19 recovery rate is now 99.39 per cent and the death rate is 0.30 per cent.

On Friday the northeastern state had reported 91 new COVID-19 cases.

A total of 19.15 lakh samples have so far been tested for COVID-19.

Over 8.43 lakh people have been inoculated with COVID-19 vaccine till Thursday, according to the health department.

11 COVID-19 Cases Reported In Maharashtra's Thane District In 24 Hours

Thane district of Maharashtra recorded 11 new coronavirus positive cases, which took its infection count to 7,08,953, an official said today.

These cases were reported on Friday, he said.

There were no deaths linked to the infection in the last 24 hours. The death count remained unchanged at 11,889.

The COVID-19 mortality rate of the district is 1.67 per cent, he added.

In neighbouring Palghar district, the caseload stood at 1,63,608, while the death count is 3,407, another official said.
