New Delhi:
India reported 188 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours, showed government data on Wednesday morning. No new death was reported and the death count stood at 5,30,696. There are 3,468 active cases in the country. Authorities are currently on alert due to a rise in cases in China and elsewhere. Hospitals across the country conducted a drill on Tuesday to assess their preparedness to tackle any such spike in cases here.

13 New Covid Cases In Delhi
Delhi logged 13 fresh COVID-19 cases on Wednesday with a positivity rate of 0.33 per cent, according to data shared by the city health department here.
No Covid-related death was reported, it said.
The national capital had reported 16 fresh COVID-19 cases on Tuesday with a positivity rate of 0.44 per cent.
Delhi reported seven cases on Monday with a positivity rate of 0.39 per cent.

Mumbai Reports 4 COVID-19 Cases, No Death
Mumbai on Wednesday reported four new COVID-19 cases and no death, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's (BMC) said.
With this, the overall infection tally rose to 11,55,108, while the fatality count remained unchanged at 19,746.
On Tuesday, Mumbai had witnessed six new COVID-19 cases and no fatality.

Maharashtra Reports 36 New Cases, One Death
Maharashtra reported 36 new coronavirus-positive cases on Wednesday taking the overall infection tally to 81,36,588, the health department said.
The toll rose to 1,48,416 with one fatality in the last 24 hours.
Maharashtra had reported 26 new COVID-19 cases and zero fresh fatality on Tuesday.

Mock Drills Across 20,000 hospitals To Check Covid Preparedness
Over 11,000 oxygen plants are functional and nearly 2.8 lakh isolation beds are available in over 20,000 health facilities across the country where mock drills were conducted on Tuesday to check the operational readiness to deal with Covid amid a surge in cases in some countries, officials said.
The Centre had asked states and Union Territories to conduct the drill as part of precautionary measures following an increase in Covid cases in China and other countries.
According to officials, 20,021 facilities, including 15,424 government ones conducted the exercise across 37 states and UTs.
Of the total 3,37,710 isolation beds across these facilities, 2,79,202 are functional.
Out of the total 2,82,229 oxygen supported-Covid beds, 2,45,894 are operational, they said.
Besides, of the 70,073 ICU beds and 57,286 ICU-cum-ventilator beds, 64,711 and 49,236 are functional, respectively.

Odisha Prepared To Handle Covid Resurgence: Health Minister
The Odisha government is prepared to tackle any situation if there is a resurgence of coronavirus in the state, state Health minister Naba Kishore Das said on Wednesday.
Talking to reporters about the preparedness of Odisha in view of Omicron sub-variant BF.7 creating havoc in certain countries, Mr Das said he held a review meeting during the day on surveillance and testing.
"If there is sudden resurgence of Covid, it is not about having Plan A or Plan B. We are already prepared under the able leadership of Naveen Patnaik... Our government was earlier praised for its handling of the pandemic and for supplying Oxygen to different states. We have instructed all Medical Colleges, including MKCG, VIMSAR and SCB Medical College, regarding readiness of 15 oxygen beds and 5 ICU beds," the minister said.

Himachal Chief Minister Reviews Covid Preparedness
Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu directed the health department officials to keep a strict vigil on the number of COVID cases in the State.
The Chief Minister directed the officials to keep the state machinery ready to meet any possible surge in COVID-19 cases.
The Chief Minister was presiding over a meeting of Health Officers to review the COVID situation in the State. He said that the strengthening of genome sequencing of positive case samples must also be ensured. He said that a special vigil must be kept to persuade the visitors to adopt COVID-appropriate behaviour during their stay in the State.

2 More Returnees Test Positive In Chennai
Two more passengers, who returned from Dubai and Cambodia, tested positive for COVID-19 at the airport here on Wednesday, taking the total number of returnees testing for the virus so far in Tamil Nadu to four.
Confirming that the two passengers had tested positive for the virus, state Health Minister Ma Subramanian said a woman and her six-year-old daughter, who returned from China via Colombo, too, had tested positive for COVID-19 at the Madurai airport on Tuesday.

A woman and her six-year-old daughter, who returned from China via Colombo, tested positive for COVID-19 at the Madurai airport in Tamil Nadu, a senior health official said today. The woman, hailing from Virudhunagar, and her daughter were subjected to RT-PCR test at the airport when they landed on Tuesday and the results turned positive for coronavirus, the official said. Both are under home isolation in Virudhunagar. Their samples would be sent to the state lab for whole genomic sequencing.

Covid Live: India Records 188 New Cases In 24 Hours
India logged 188 new coronavirus infections, while the active cases increased to 3,468, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated today. The Covid case tally was recorded at 4.46 crore (4,46,77,647). The death count stands at 5,30,696, the data updated at 8 am stated. The daily positivity rate was recorded at 0.14%, while weekly positivity was pegged at 0.18%, the ministry said. It said 1,34,995 tests for detection of Covid have been conducted in the last 24 hours.

Bihar has witnessed a more than 10-fold rise in active COVID-19 cases, since last weekend, according to figures released by the state health department. The state, which had zero active case till Sunday, now has 14, with Gaya accounting for 12 of these. Notably, Gaya is witnessing an influx of pilgrims from abroad who are heading for Bodh Gaya, less than 20 km away, to attend the discourses of the Dalai Lama. The Tibetan spiritual leader is in Bihar after a gap of two years. On Monday, the international Buddhist pilgrimage centre had reported five COVID-19 cases, all of them foreign nationals. In addition, one person each has tested positive for coronavirus in Darbhanga and Patna.
