Coronavirus India LIVE Updates: India Logs 128 New Covid Cases

India logged 128 new coronavirus infections, while the active cases declined to 1,998, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Wednesday.

The Covid case tally was recorded at 4.46 crore (4,46,81,361).

The death count stands at 5,30,728, with one each reported from Karnataka and Maharashtra, the data updated at 8 am stated.

The daily positivity was recorded at 0.07 per cent while the weekly positivity was pegged at 0.09 per cent.

COVID-19 during pregnancy increases major health risks: Study

According to new research published in BMJ Global Health, pregnant women infected with the virus that causes COVID-19 have 7 times increased chance of dying and a considerably increased risk of being admitted to an intensive care unit or suffering from pneumonia. 

The study also reveals that COVID-19 during pregnancy increases the risk that the new born baby may need to be admitted to intensive care.

3 new COVID-19 case in Thane; active tally at 12

Maharashtra's Thane district has reported three new COVID-19 cases, taking its infection count to 7,47,418, a health official said on Wednesday.

With the addition of the latest numbers on Tuesday, the district currently has 12 active COVID-19 cases, he said.

No death was reported on Tuesday, and the number of fatalities in the district so far was 11,969, the official said.

The count of recoveries stood at 7,36,208, he added.

Thane records one new COVID-19 case; active tally at 9

One new case of coronavirus has been detected in Maharashtra's Thane district, taking its infection count to 7,47,415, a health official said on Tuesday.

The new case was reported on Monday, he said.

There are currently nine active COVID-19 cases in the district, which comes under the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, he said.

WHO recommends that China monitor excess COVID-19 mortality

The World Health Organization (WHO) said on Monday it recommended that China monitor excess mortality from COVID-19 to gain a fuller picture of the impact of the surge in cases there.

China said on Saturday that nearly 60,000 people with COVID-19 had died in hospital since it abandoned its zero-COVID policy last month, a big jump from the figures it reported prior to facing international criticism over its COVID-19 data.

"WHO recommends the monitoring of excess mortality, which provides us with a more comprehensive understanding of the impact of COVID-19," the U.N. agency told Reuters in a statement when asked about China.

89 New Covid-19 Cases In India

India recorded 89 new coronavirus infections, the lowest since March 27, 2020, while the active cases declined to 2,035, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Tuesday.

The Covid case tally stood at 4.46 crore (4,46,81,233).

The death count stands at 5,30,726, the data updated at 8 am stated.
