New Delhi: India reported 3,324 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, taking the total tally of infections in the country since the pandemic started to 4,30,79,188.
According to the Union Health Ministry, the active cases increased to 19,092.
The country also reported 40 Covid-related deaths on Sunday, bringing the total number of Covid fatalities to 5,23,843.
On Saturday, the country reported 3,688 new Covid cases and 50 related deaths.

Amid surge in Covid cases, Maharashtra likely to make face masks mandatory
The Maharashtra government might make it mandatory for people to wear face masks if COVID cases continue to see a rise, the state Health Minister Rajesh Tope said on Sunday.
"If Covid-19 cases continue to rise, then we will have to make the wearing of masks compulsory," he said.

COVID-19 India News: Puducherry Logs One New Case
The union territory of Puducherry added one fresh coronavirus case in the last 24 hours while no new fatalities were reported, a senior Health department official said on Sunday. The solitary new infection at the end of the examination of 204 samples took the overall caseload in the union territory to 1,65,790, Director of Health G Sriramulu said in a release. He also said four patients recovered during the last 24 hours ending 10 AM Sunday as the overall recoveries rose to 1,63,819. The number of active cases stood at nine with one patient undergoing treatment in hospital and the remaining eight in home quarantine, he added. The death count remained at 1,962 as no fresh fatality was reported in the last 24 hours. (PTI)

COVID-19 India News: Andaman And Nicobar Islands Become Covid-Free Again
Andaman and Nicobar Islands became COVID-19 free again as the lone patient was cured of the disease, a health bulletin said on Sunday. One fresh infection was reported on April 23 and the patient was discharged on April 30. There are now no active cases in the Union territory. The coronavirus tally stood at 10,035, of whom 9,906 people have recovered while 129 patients have died due to the infection. (PTI)
