Coronavirus LIVE Updates: India Reports 2,364 New COVID-19 Cases In 24 Hours

New Delhi:

India reported 2,364 new Covid cases, taking the total number of infections to 4,31,29,563. According to the Union Health Ministry, the active cases dipped to 15,419 in the last 24 hours.

India also reported 10 new Covid-related fatalities, bringing the total number of deaths to 5,24,303.

A decrease of 228 cases has been recorded in the active COVID-19 caseload in a span of 24 hours.

The active cases comprised 0.04 per cent of the total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate was recorded at 98.75 per cent, the ministry said.

31 New COVID-19 Cases In Maharashtra's Thane In 24 Hours

With the addition of 31 new COVID-19 cases, the infection count in Maharashtra's Thane district has gone up to 7,09,441, an official said on Thursday. These new cases were reported on Wednesday, he said. With no fresh fatality, the COVID-19 death count in the district stood at 11,895 and the mortality rate at 1.67 per cent, he added.

COVID-19: China Relaxes Some Test Rules For US, Other Travellers

China has removed some COVID-19 test requirements for people flying in countries such as the United States and shortened the pre-departure quarantine for some inbound travellers, as it fine-tunes its measures to cope with the Omicron variant.

The slight relaxations were made in response to factors including the "characteristics of coronavirus variants", according to notices from Chinese embassies and consulates that did not provide further details.

From Friday, travellers from Dallas, New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle and Chicago will no longer need an RT-PCR test seven days before flying, or any antibody test, according to notices issued late on Tuesday from the Chinese embassy in the United States and several consulates.
