COVID-19 Highlights: At least 26 Covid-related deaths reported in India in the last 24 hours.

New Delhi:

India logged 3,375 new coronavirus infections taking the total tally of COVID-19 cases to 4,45,94,487, while the active cases declined to 37,444, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Sunday.

The death count climbed to 5,28,673 with 18 fatalities which includes 11 deaths reconciled by Kerala, the data updated at 8 am stated.

The active cases comprise 0.08 per cent of the total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate increased to 98.73 per cent, the ministry said.

Covid Alert: 78 Covid Cases, Zero Casualty In Karnataka
 After several months, the daily COVID-19 cases in Karnataka dipped below 100 as the state reported 78 new infections on Sunday taking the cumulative cases to 40,65,057, the Health department said.
Also, there was no casualty due to Covid.

The COVID-19 infections in Bengaluru was in single digit, at eight.

36 New COVID-19 Cases In Thane
 
Maharashtra's Thane district has reported 36 new COVID-19 cases, taking its infection tally to 7,45,085, a health official said on Sunday.

With the addition of the latest numbers on Saturday, there are currently 355 active COVID-19 cases in Thane, which is part of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, he said.

The toll in the district remained unchanged at 11,962. The recovery count has reached 7,33,500, he added.

Odisha Logs 131 New Cases, 1 Death

Odisha's COVID-19 tally rose to 13,34,367 on Sunday as 131 more people, including 15 children, tested positive for the infection, a health bulletin said.

The state had recorded 146 infections and a fatality on Saturday.

The toll rose to 9,195 as a 45-year-old woman succumbed to the disease in Kalahandi district. Besides, 53 other patients have died due to comorbidities so far, it said.

The state now has 1,276 active cases, while 13,23,843 patients have recovered from the disease to date, including 197 in the last 24 hours.

The daily positivity rate was at 1.17 per cent as 10,717 samples were tested for the infection in the last 24 hours.

Blood tests might help to detect long covid in patients

According to research, a blood test conducted at the time of Covid-19 infection can help indicate whether a person is likely to develop long-term Covid.

The study, published in the Lancet eBioMedicine journal, analysed proteins in the blood of healthcare workers infected with SARS-CoV-2 and compared them to samples collected from healthcare workers who had not been infected.

Usually, protein levels in the body are stable. But the researchers found a dramatic difference in levels of some of the proteins up to six weeks following infection, suggesting disruption to a number of important biological processes.
