Coronavirus Highlights: India Records 2,529 New Covid Cases, 12 Deaths

West Bengal on Thursday reported 69 new Covid-19 positive cases on Thursday taking the tally to 21,15,295, according to a state health department bulletin.

As one person died of the viral infection, the total number of deaths went up to 21,512.

With 318 recoveries during the day, altogether 20,91,584 people have been cured of coronavirus in the state, the bulletin said.

West Bengal now has 2199 active cases, of which 79 are being treated in hospitals.

The positivity rate for the day was 1.72 per cent.

Since Wednesday, 4,008 samples were tested for Covid-19 pushing the total number of such tests to 2,65,39,432.

Altogether 92 fresh Covid-19 cases were registered on October 5.

Tamil Nadu on Thursday logged 404 new COVID-19 infections, pushing the tally to 35,85,831 till date, while the death count remained unchanged at 38,047 with nil fresh fatalities, said the Health Department.

Recoveries eclipsed new cases with 504 people recovering from the virus in the last 24 hours aggregating to 35,42,712 and leaving 5,072 active infections, a bulletin said here.

Chennai topped in new cases with 91, Chengalpet 35 while the remaining cases were spread across districts. As many as 18 districts reported new cases below 10 while Dharmapuri and Theni recorded zero new cases each.

The State capital - Chennai - leads among districts with 2,318 active infections and overall 7,91,088 coronavirus cases.

A total of 13,028 samples were tested in the last 24 hours, pushing the cumulative number of tests to 6,95,06,042 so far, said the bulletin.

Chhattisgarh on Thursday reported 36 COVID-19 cases at a positivity rate of 0.83 per cent, taking the state's tally to 11,76,533, while the death count increased by two to reach 14,137, an official said.

The recovery count stood at 11,62,106 after 71 people were discharged during the day, leaving the state with 290 active cases, he said.

"Raipur led with seven cases, followed by five in Rajnandgaon. No coronavirus case was reported from 17 districts. With 4,327 samples examined during the day, the number of tests went up to 1,86,60,533," he added.

Delhi on Thursday reported 57 new Covid cases with a positivity rate of 2.19 per cent, according to the data issued by the city health department here.

No Covid-related fatality was reported, the department said in its latest bulletin.

With the new cases, Delhi's COVID-19 tally has climbed to 20,03,803 while the death count remains unchanged at 26,503, it said.

The new cases were detected from 2,606 tests conducted the previous day, it said.

Delhi on Wednesday saw 96 Covid cases with a positivity rate of 1.42 per cent.

The number of active COVID-19 cases in Delhi stands at 328.

A total of 244 patients are under home isolation, the bulletin said.

Of the 8,857 beds reserved for COVID-19 patients in various city hospitals, 42 are occupied, it said.

There are 44 containment zones in Delhi, it added.

Maharashtra on Thursday recorded 198 new coronavirus cases, while one more patient succumbed to the infection in the state, the health department said.

With these additions, the state's overall COVID-19 tally rose to 81,23,453, while the death count increased to 1,48,350, said the department in a bulletin.

On Wednesday, the state had recorded 416 cases and zero fatality.

Mumbai registered 80 cases and accounted for the lone coronavirus-related death in the state in the last 24 hours, said the bulletin.

The case fatality rate in the state stood at 1.82 per cent, while the coronavirus recovery rate was 98.14 per cent.

The department said 328 patients recovered from the coronavirus infection in the last 24 hours, taking their cumulative count to 79,72,580 and leaving the state with 2,523 active case.

It said 10,534 new coronavirus tests were conducted in the state, pushing up their total count to 8,48,96,526.

Nashik district in north Maharashtra added 12 new patients, taking the overall count to 4,82,170, health officials said.

Eight patients recovered from the infection during the day, raising their cumulative count to 4,73,211. Nashik district has an active caseload of 55, they said.

The COVID-19 tally in Madhya Pradesh reached 10,54,396 on Thursday after the detection of 11 cases at a positivity rate of 0.3 per cent, a health official said.

The death count remained at 10,773, while the recovery count increased by 20 to touch 10,43,521, leaving the state with 102 active cases, he said.

With 2,830 samples examined during the day, the number of coronavirus tests in MP went up to 3,00,65,062, he added.

A government release said 13,31,88,370 COVID-19 vaccine doses have been administered so far in the state, including 4,460 on Thursday.

Mumbai on Thursday reported 80 COVID-19 cases and one death, which took the tally here to 11,50,908 and the count to 19,734, a civic official said.

The addition to the tally was below the 100-mark after two days, with Wednesday seeing 127 cases, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation official pointed out.

Of the new cases, only three are symptomatic, the official added.

The recovery count rose by 99 and touched 11,30,399, leaving the metropolis with an active caseload of 775, he said.

As per BMC data, the recovery count stood at 98.2 per cent and the overall growth rate of cases between September 29 and October 5 was 0.009 per cent.

So far, 1,83,40,080 coronavirus tests have been conducted in Mumbai, including 3,370 in the last 24 hours, lower than the 6,713 samples examined in the preceding 24-hour period.

The caseload doubling time is 8,468 days, as per official data.

Odisha's COVID-19 tally mounted to 13,34,642 on Thursday as 49 more people, including six children, tested positive for the virus, a health department bulletin said.

The state had recorded 68 infections on Wednesday.

The death count remained unchanged at 9,198, it said.

Odisha now has 821 active cases, while 13,24,570 patients have recovered from the disease so far, including 171 in the last 24 hours.

It tested 6,336 samples for coronavirus since Wednesday at a daily positivity rate of 0.77 per cent, the bulletin added.

Puducherry reported 24 new cases of coronavirus today, raising the aggregate to 1,74,777.

Director of Health G. Sriramulu said in a release that while Puducherry region alone accounted for 10 new cases out of those identified at the end of examination of 730 samples, Karaikal region had 14 fresh cases.

Mahe and Yanam regions reported zero case during last 24 hours.

No fresh fatality was reported from any of the four regions, Mr Sriramulu noted.
