Coronavirus Highlights:India Logs 2,539 New COVID-19 Cases, 60 Deaths In 24 Hours

India COVID-19 Highlights: A reduction of 1,106 cases has been recorded in the active COVID-19 caseload in a span of 24 hours, it said.

India COVID-19 Cases: India reported 98 new deaths in 24 hours.

New Delhi:

At least 2,539 new COVID-19 cases recorded in India on Wednesday, taking the total number of infections to 4,30,01,477. While death count rose to 5,16,132 with 60 fresh Covid-related fatalities.

According to the health ministry, the active cases comprise 0.08 per cent of the total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate further improved to 98.72 per cent.

A reduction of 1,106 cases has been recorded in the active COVID-19 caseload in a span of 24 hours, it said.

The number of people who have recuperated from the disease surged to 4,24,50,055 and the case fatality rate was recorded at 1.20 per cent, the ministry said.

Nagaland reports three fresh COVID-19 cases, one more death

Nagaland on Thursday reported three new COVID-19 infections, taking the tally to 35,458, a health department official said.

The state's coronavirus death count increased to 758 as one more patient died in Dimapur district in the last 24 hours, he said.

Nagaland now has 39 active COVID-19 cases, he said.

At least 10 people recuperated from the disease during the period, taking the total number of cured patients to 33,177, the official said.

Altogether 1,484 COVID-19 patients have migrated to other states.

The recovery rate among coronavirus patients in the state is currently at 93.56 per cent.

The northeastern state has so far conducted more than 4.65 lakh sample tests for COVID-19.

Altogether 9,07,735 people, including 25 in the age bracket of 12-14 years and 89,648 in the group of 15-18 have been inoculated against COVID-19 till Wednesday, the official added.

Over 3,900 children in 12-14 age group given Covid jab in Delhi

Over 3,900 children aged between 12 and 14 were vaccinated against COVID-19 in Delhi on Thursday.

The vaccination for this age group commenced on Wednesday.

A total of 3,907 children were administered the jab on the second day in the city.

As many as 612 children were vaccinated in northeast Delhi, the highest among all the districts. The district had recorded the highest figures in the first day too.

Central Delhi recorded the lowest figures at 120. Southeast district, where there was zero vaccination on the first day, saw 173 children receiving the first jab of the Biological E's Corbevax vaccine.

Maharashtra logs 229 new COVID-19 cases, 3 deaths; active tally below 2,000

Maharashtra reported 229 new coronavirus cases and three fresh deaths on Thursday, while 395 more patients recovered from the infection, bringing the active tally to less than 2,000 in the state, the health department said.

With this, the state's overall count of COVID-19 cases rose to 78,72,032, while the death count increased to 1,43,762, the department said in a bulletin.

A day ago, the state had recorded 237 cases and two fatalities.

As per the bulletin, the number of recovered cases in Maharashtra increased to 77,22,360 after 395 patients were discharged during the day, leaving the state with 1,906 active cases.

The coronavirus case fatality rate in the state was 1.82 per cent, while the recovery rate stood at 98.10 per cent, it said.

With 46,025 new coronavirus tests conducted in the last 24 hours, the number of samples tested so far in Maharashtra rose to 7,88,40,204, the bulletin said.

COVID-19 in Andhra Pradesh: 54 new cases, 57 recoveries and zero deaths

Andhra Pradesh on Thursday added 54 fresh Covid-19 cases to its tally, which now went up to 23,19,066.

According to the latest bulletin, 57 infected people got cured in 24 hours ending 9 am on Thursday, making it a total of 23,03,829 recoveries so far.

As no fresh deaths were reported, the count remained 14,730.

The number of active cases now stood at 507, the bulletin added.

Kerala records 922 fresh COVID-19 cases, 130 deaths

Kerala on Thursday recorded 922 new COVID-19 infections which raised the total caseload to 65,25,032.

The southern state also reported 130 deaths which raised the count to 67,138, according to a government release.

Of the deaths, 7 were those which occurred in the last few days but were not recorded due to late receipt of documents and 123 were designated as COVID-19 deaths after receiving appeals based on the new guidelines of the Centre and the directions of the Supreme Court, the release said.

No deaths were reported in the last 24 hours, it added.

With 1,329 more people recovering from the virus since Wednesday, the total recoveries in the state reached 64,50,028 and the active cases reached 6,998.

Union Health Minister Dr Mansukh Mandaviya on Thursday appreciated NGOs, stakeholders and healthcare workers for working tirelessly among the communities during the COVID-19 pandemic to support them in various ways.

"I seek your continued partnership for connecting with the communities to take healthcare services to them. Your work will be pivotal in enhancing awareness and accelerating uptake of e-health services (such as eSanjeevani, and tele-health) among the masses," the Health Minister said while delivering the keynote address at a webinar on 'India's Public Health Response to Manage COVID-19'.

Mr Mandaviya further said that India's strategies of public health response have resulted in better management of the Omicron surge compared to many other countries.

Andaman & Nicobar reports one new COVID-19 case

Andaman and Nicobar Islands reported one new COVID-19 case, pushing the tally to 10,029, a health department official said on Thursday.

The union territory now has four active COVID-19 cases, while 9,896 people have recovered from the virus, he said.

The COVID-19 death toll in the archipelago remained at 129 as no new fatality was reported in the last 24 hours.

Two new Covid cases in Ladakh

Ladakh reported two new coronavirus cases on Thursday, continuing with the downward trend of new infections, officials said.

The number of active cases in the union territory dropped to 66 with six more patients in Leh being cured of the infection, they said.

According to the officials, there was no Covid-related death in the region, which has so far recorded a total of 228 fatalities linked to the pandemic since its outbreak.

The UT has so far reported 28,192 cases.

India fared better than others in managing Omicron-driven Covid surge, claims health ministry

Global Covid case surge due to the Omicron variant led to a peak six times the previous waves but India managed to control its spread causing lower hospitalisation and fewer deaths than earlier surges, the government said on Thursday.

With 3,536 cases reported on an average in the week ending March 15, India contributed to only 0.21 per cent of global cases, the Union health ministry said.

It pointed out that many countries are still experiencing a rise in cases which is higher than their previous surges. "Not only the reported peak in India was much lower, the consistent efforts also led to a decreasing trajectory soon.

China registers 1,226 new local COVID-19 cases

China mainland reported 1,226 locally transmitted COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, comparatively lower than Tuesday's 1,860 cases.

Of these new local infections, the north-eastern province of Jilin lodged 742 cases, Fujian Province reported 99 cases, the southern province of Guangdong reported 83 cases and northeast China's Liaoning Province registered 83 cases, Xinhua reported citing the Chinese National Health Commission.

China's other provincial-level also witnessed new locally transmitted COVID-19 infections including Beijing which registered four cases.

COVID-19: Delhi reports 144 fresh cases, 1 death

Delhi reported 144 COVID-19 cases and one fatality, while the positivity rate stood at 0.39 per cent, according to data shared by the health department on Thursday.

This data pertains to the cases reported on Tuesday as the Delhi government did not issue the health bulletin on Wednesday.

Including the latest reported cases, the national capital's case count increased to 18,63,345, while the death toll rose to 26,144, the health bulletin stated.
