India has recorded 961 cases of the Omicron variant of coronavirus across 22 states and UTs so far out of which 320 people have recovered or migrated, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Thursday. Delhi recorded the maximum number of 263 cases followed by Maharashtra at 257, Gujarat 97, Rajasthan 69 and Kerala 65.
With 13,154 people testing positive for coronavirus infection in a day, India's total tally of COVID-19 cases rose to 3,48,22,040, while the active cases increased to 82,402, according to the data updated at 8 am. The number of deaths climbed to 4,80,860 with 268 fresh fatalities, the data stated.
The daily rise in new coronavirus infections has been recorded below 15,000 for the last 63 days now.

Mumbai saw a big surge in fresh coronavirus cases today with 3,671 fresh infections - 46% higher compared to yesterday.
Assam today announced that it will start vaccinating students in the age group of 15-18 years from Monday, reported news agency PTI. According to an official order, the exercise to vaccinate all in this age group will be completed by the first week of March.
India's "R naught" value, which indicates the spread of coronavirus, is 1.22, the government said today, warning that cases are increasing.
Witnessing a spike for the second consecutive day, Karnataka today reported 707 new Covid cases and three deaths, taking the total number of infections to 3,006,505 and the death count to 38,327, reported news agency PTI. Of the 707 new cases, 565 were from Bengaluru Urban.
There were 252 discharges today, taking the total number of recoveries in the state so far to 29,59,926, a health department bulletin said.
Bharat Biotech today announced that Covaxin, its whole-virion inactivated COVID-19 vaccine candidate, has proven to be safe, well-tolerated, and immunogenic in paediatric subjects in phase II/III trials.
The government also assured the people that there is no need to panic due to rising Covid cases as we are prepared for a surge.
Amid rising Covid cases in Delhi, Union Minority Affairs Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi today said that it has been decided to conclude the Hunar Haar in New Delhi from tomorrow, reported news agency PTI. The 35th edition of the Hunar Haat was inaugurated by Union Minister Bhupender Yadav at Delhi's Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on December 23. The event was scheduled to continue till January 5, 2022.
"We need to take precautions but don't get panicked. Keeping safety in mind, Hunar Haat will be wrapped tomorrow and if all goes well, we will continue to organise it in Patna and Mysore," the Union Minister told reporters.
"In view of the rising cases and as per the circular issued by Govt of Goa, we shall be testing all international passengers on arrival, travelling from high-risk countries as well as non-high risk countries."
BCCI president and former India skipper Sourav Ganguly continues to remain "stable" after being tested COVID-19 positive three days ago, the hospital where he is undergoing treatment said, reported news agency PTI.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray is meeting with the state's Covid Task Force. The Task Force will advise the government on restrictions amid rising cases of Covid in the state. It will also discuss the implications of the Omicron variant which is driving up cases. The genome sequencing of data will also be discussed at the meeting. Maharashtra will formulate the management of the third wave of the pandemic after the meeting.
Flagging a sudden rise in Covid cases across 14 cities, the Centre has written to eight states, urging them to take immediate measures. "Take steps now to avoid increased mortality," was the Centre's advice, sources said.
