Coronavirus cases in India: The recovery rate now stands at 78.28 per cent.

New Delhi:

Coronavirus Latest Updates: With 83,809 cases has push India's coronavirus tally to 49,30,237 the Union Health Ministry data this morning showed. The death count has risen to 80,776 with 1,054 more fatalities.

38,59,400 patients have recovered from the infection in the country.

Maharashtra remains the state hit hardest by the pandemic, followed by Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Uttar Pradesh. India is the country with the second-highest coronavirus caseload in the world after the United States. 

The country's recovery rate now stands at 78.28 per cent, the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) informed on Tuesday.

Coronavirus update: 1,391 new COVID-19 cases reported in Uttarakhand

A total of 1,391 new COVID-19 cases have been reported in Uttarakhand in the last 24 hours.

According to the state's Health Department, the total number of cases in the state now stands at 34,407, including 10,739 active cases.

Coronavirus News: Pune Reports 3,889 New Cases, 70 Deaths
Pune district reported 3,889 new coronavirus positive cases in the last 24 hours, taking its infection count to 2,31,196, while the death count reached 5,292 with 70 deaths during this period, an official said on Tuesday, reported news agency PTI. Of the new cases, 1,691 are in Pune Municipal Corporation limits, which now has 1,22,448 cases. Pimpri Chinchwad accounted for 997 cases, and its count is now 65,379. The number of cases in rural and cantonment areas is 43,369," the official said.

As many as 155 healthcare staff, including 64 doctors, have died due to coronavirus, according to ''Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Package Insurance Scheme for Health Workers Fighting COVID-19'' which provides relief in case of death of such workers, Parliament was told on Tuesday, reported news agency PTI. Minister of State for Health Ashwini Choubey was responding to a question on the number of healthcare staff, including doctors, nurses, support staff and ASHA workers, affected by the disease. He told Rajya Sabha that 'health' is a state subject and "such data is not maintained at central level".

COVID-19 test rate at private labs in Rajasthan slashed to Rs 1,200

The Rajasthan government on Tuesday revised the rates for COVID-19 tests conducted by private labs in the state from Rs 2,200 to Rs 1,200.

Health Minister Raghu Sharma said the prices of RT-PCR testing kits, reagents, VTM kits and other consumables have reduced and therefore it was decided to provide the testing facility to people at lower prices.

Principal Secretary, Medical and Health, Akhil Arora issued an order in this regard on Tuesday.

JD(S) MLA Gowrishankar tests positive for COVID-19

Turmakuru Rural JD(S) MLA DC Gowrishankar on Tuesday said he has tested positive COVID-19. "As I had a fever, I underwent COVID test and the report has come positive.

On the advice of doctors, I'm undergoing treatment at home," the MLA said in a tweet.

He also appealed to all those who had come in contact with him during the last seven days to undergo tests and take precautions by by undergoing quarantine.

20,482 new COVID-19 cases in Maharashtra

Maharashtra's COVID-19 tally rose to 10,97,856 on Tuesday with addition of 20,482 new cases, state health department said. With 515 deaths in the last 24 hours, the total deaths in the state went up to 30,409, it said.

A total of 19,423 patients were discharged after treatment during the day, taking the number of recoveries in the state to 7,75,273, it said, adding that the state now has 2,91,797 active cases.

Mumbai city reported 1,586 cases in the day, taking its count to 1,73,596 while the cumulative deaths rose to 8,230.

Absolutely ''no shortage'' of medical oxygen at national level: Health Secretary

There is absolutely "no shortage" of medical oxygen, vital in the treatment of coronavirus, at the national level, the Union Health Ministry said, while urging states to ensure a proper inventory management at hospital-level and advance planning for timely replenishment so that there is no stockout.

Asked if there was an acute shortage of oxygen in different states and there had been deaths due to it, Health Ministry Secretary Rajesh Bhushan said the country's current daily capacity of oxygen production as on date is slightly more than 6,900 metric tonne.

Mr Bhushan at a press briefing said that 3.69 per cent of the COVID-19 patients were on oxygen support, 2.17 per cent were in ICU beds which are with oxygen and 0.36 per cent of the patients were on ventilator support which is again with oxygen.

Panel formed to cap charges for CT scans for COVID-19 patients

Maharashtra Public Health Minister Rajesh Tope announced that a committee has been appointed to cap charges for CT scans for COVID-19 patients.

The four-member committee headed by Dr Sudhakar Shinde, the chief executive officer of Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Jan Aarogya Yojana, will submit its report in the next seven days.

"Some patients need to undergo CT scans but there have been complaints that private hospitals were charging exorbitantly for such tests. To address these concerns, the government decided to set up a committee," an official from the state health department said.

Single-day recoveries outnumber new COVID-19 cases in Nagaland

Single-day recoveries outnumbered new COVID-19 cases in Nagaland on Tuesday as 30 people were cured of the infection and 15 tested positive for the disease, Health Minister S Pangnyu Phom said. 

The COVID-19 recovery rate in the state is 75.1 per cent. It had gone up to 87.82 per cent on August 8. The fresh cases have raised the state's caseload to 5,229.

"Out of 304 results received, 15 positive cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed 8 in Dimapur, 4 in Kohima and 1 each in Mokokchung, Tuensang and Mon," Mr Phom tweeted.

A day after 14 COVID-1 deaths, Goa Chief Minister appeals for better fight

A day after 14 people died of COVID-19 in Goa, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Tuesday said the task at hand was to bring down the mortality rate to zero by ensuring people showing symptoms are admitted without delay.

He held a meeting here of health and revenue officials through video-conferencing, which was also attended by state health minister Vishwajit Rane.

It is the joint responsibility of the public and the government to ensure no one dies of the coronavirus infection, the CM said, adding that the state''s hospitals had enough beds for patients, and asked families not to avoid hospitalisation of kin showing symptoms.

Delhi Assembly's main hall sanitised after 2 MLAs test COVID-19 positive

Delhi Assembly's main hall has been thoroughly sanitised and those who came in contact with the two COVID-19 positive legislators have been asked to take preventive measures, officials said on Tuesday.

Two AAP MLAs, who tested negative for COVID-19 when they underwent the mandatory rapid antigen test on Monday ahead of the one-day session, attended the proceedings but later left the House after reports of their previous RT-PCR test came positive in the evening, they said.

"The Assembly hall has been sanitised thoroughly. All the members and officers who came into contact with MLAs Vishesh Ravi and Parmila Tokas have been advised to take adequate precautionary measures," a senior official of the Delhi Assembly secretariat said.
