India's daily Covid graph showed improvement on Monday as the country logged 12,514 fresh cases, which is 2.4 per cent lower than the previous day. During the same period, 251 related fatalities were recorded.

With 12,514 people testing positive for coronavirus in a day, India's total tally of COVID-19 cases rose to 3,42,85,814, while the active cases declined to 1,58,817, the lowest in 248 days, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Monday.

The death count climbed to 4,58,437 with 251 fresh fatalities, according to the data updated at 8 am.

The daily rise in new coronavirus infection has been below 20,000 for 24 straight days and less than 50,000 daily new cases have been reported for 127 consecutive days now.

The active cases comprise 0.46 per cent of the total infections, the lowest since March 2020, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate was recorded at 98.20 per cent, the ministry said.

COVID-19: Kerala logs 5,297 new cases, 368 deaths
Kerala reported 5,297 fresh COVID-19 cases and 368 related deaths which raised the caseload to 49,73,954 and the fatalities to 32,049, the state government said on Monday.

With 7,325 more people recovering from the virus since Sunday, the total recoveries touched 48,64,506 and the active cases reached 76,786, an official press release said.

Of the 368 deaths, 78 were reported over the last few days, 232 were those which were not confirmed until June 18 last year due to lack of adequate documentation and 58 were designated as COVID deaths after receiving appeals based on the new guidelines of the Centre and Supreme Court directions, the release said. As many as 51,577 samples were tested in the last 24 hours.

Odisha logs 316 fresh COVID-19 cases, three fatalities
The twin districts of Khurda and Cuttack in Odisha accounted for over 58 per cent of 316 fresh COVID-19 cases reported on Monday, a health department official said. The state's tally rose to 10,41,773, while the death toll mounted to 8,336 after three more patients - one each from Angul, Balasore and Ganjam districts - succumbed to the virus, he said.
Odisha had logged 488 new infections on Sunday.

Khurda, comprising state capital Bhubaneswar, reported 152 fresh cases followed by Cuttack (32) and Mayurbhanj (28). Eight districts did not register any new coronavirus case. The state now has 4,237 active cases, and 10,29,147 patients, including 450 since Sunday, have so far recovered from the highly infectious disease, the official said.

Kerala schools reopen after long Covid-19 break
Schools in Kerala reopened with Education Minister V Sivankutty inaugurating a school reopening function ''Praveshanolsavam'' at Cotton Hill Girls Higher Secondary School, Thiruvananthapuram. The schools have been reopened on Monday after closing due to the Covid-19 lockdown. The physical classes for classes 1st to 7th, 10th and 12th resumed from today in a staggered manner.

"Classes will be conducted in compliance with covid protocols. Ahead of school reopening, classrooms and schools were cleaned and sanitized. Two students will be allowed to sit on a bench. Students will be allowed to enter after checking their body temperature.

Puducherry adds 43 new COVID-19 cases, overall tally rises to 1,28,056
Puducherry logged 43 fresh coronavirus cases during the last 24 hours ending 10 a.m. Monday taking the overall tally to 1,28,056, a senior official of the Department of Health said.

The union territory reported a fatality after not recording any death for seven straight days. The death toll went up to 1,858. The 43 new infections were identified at the end of the examination of 2,194 samples, Director of the Health department G Sriramulu said in a release.

The new cases were spread over Puducherry (18), Karaikal (18) and Mahe (7). No fresh infection was reported in the last 24 hours ending 10 AM Monday from Yanam, an enclave in Andhra Pradesh. The number of active cases stood at 419 with 87 in hospitals and remaining 332 in home isolation.

Mizoram reports 165 new COVID-19 cases, 2 deaths
Mizoram reported 165 new COVID-19 cases on Monday, taking the tally to 1.21 lakh, a Health Department official said. Two more people died in the state, pushing the toll to 433, he said.

The single-day positivity rate dipped to 7.49 per cent from 9.74 per cent on the previous day, he said. Forty-seven children were among the new patients. There are 6,479 active cases in the state at present, while 610 people recovered in the last 24 hours. So far, 1.14 lakh patients have recovered.

Only one new COVID-19 case in Arunachal, no deaths
Arunachal Pradesh reported only one new COVID-19 case, officials said. 
Nineteen people recovered in the last 24 hours, following which the number of active cases dipped to 101, they said. The toll in the frontier state remained at 280 as no new death was reported, they added.

The state has so far reported 55,155 cases, while 54,774 patients have recovered. Tawang district has the highest number of active cases at 24, followed by Lower Dibang Valley (18), West Kameng (13) and East Siang (11). The new case was detected after testing 334 samples.
