At 1,736, Maharashtra Logs Lowest Covid Cases In Nearly 17 Months
Maharashtra reported 1,736 new COVID-19 cases on Monday, the lowest daily count in nearly 17 months, and 36 fresh fatalities, taking the infection tally to 65,79,608 and the toll to 1,39,578, a health department official said.

Maharashtra witnessed a drop of more than 550 cases, but recorded an uptick in fatalities as compared to Sunday, when it had reported 2,294 new COVID-19 cases and 28 deaths.

At 1,736, the state has recorded the lowest daily count since May 16, 2020, when 1,606 new coronavirus cases were reported, but the tally comes on the back of just over one lakh tests.

WHO Experts Recommend 3rd Dose For Over-60s Jabbed With Sinopharm, Sinovac
The WHO's vaccine advisors recommended Monday that people over 60 who have been fully immunised with China's Sinovac and Sinopharm vaccine should be offered a third Covid-19 vaccine dose.

"For the Sinovac and Sinopharm inactivated vaccines, an additional (third) dose of the homologous vaccine should be offered to persons aged 60," the World Health Organization's Strategic Advisory Group of Experts on Immunisation said, adding that a different vaccine may also be considered, based on availability.

Madhya Pradesh Logs 14 New COVID-19 Cases


The COVID-19 tally in Madhya Pradesh rose to 7,92,635 on Monday with the addition of 14 cases, while no fresh death due to the infection was reported in the state, a health department official said.

The death toll remained unchanged at 10,523, he said.

The recovery count stands at 7,82,009, leaving the state with 103 active cases, he said.

Nashik Sees 50 Covid-19 Cases, 1 Death, 54 Recoveries
The number of COVID-19 cases in Nashik reached 4,09,322 on Monday after 50 people were detected with the infection, an official said.

The day also saw one patient succumbing to the infection, taking the count to 8,648, he said.

So far, 3,99,896 people have been discharged post-recovery in the district, including 54 on Monday, the official added.

With 8,783 samples being examined during the day, the number of tests in Nashik went up to 26,45,157, he added.

Delhi Records 23 New COVID-19 Cases, No Death In Last 24 Hours
The national capital reported 23 cases of COVID-19 and zero death due to the infection in a day while the positivity rate stood at 0.05 per cent, according to data shared by the health department. Delhi has recorded two deaths due to the infection in October so far. Last month, five people died due to the viral disease.

With the new cases, the coronavirus infection tally in the city climbed to 14,39,218. Of this, over 14.13 lakh patients have recovered from the disease. The death count stands at 25,089.

Kerala clocks 6,996 fresh COVID-19 cases, 84 deaths
Kerala on Monday recorded a steep fall in COVID-19 cases, logging 6,996 infections and 84 deaths, taking the caseload to 48,01,796 and fatalities to 26,342 till date. The state had logged 10,691 cases on October 10. With 16,576 more people recovering from the virus since Sunday, the total recoveries touched 46,73,442 and the active cases dropped to 1,01,419, an official press release said.

Vaccination is highly effective at preventing severe cases of Covid-19, even against the Delta variant, a vast study in France has shown.

The research published Monday -- focusing on prevention of severe Covid and death, not infection -- looked at 22 million people over 50 and found those who had received jabs were 90 percent less likely to be hospitalised or die.

The results confirm observations from the US, the UK and Israel, but researchers say it is the largest study of its kind so far.

Looking at data collected starting in December 2020, when France launched its jab campaign, the researchers compared the outcomes of 11 million vaccinated people with 11 million unvaccinated subjects.
