Coronavirus: With 895 deaths, the total fatalities reached 1,12,161.

New Delhi:

India's COVID-19 caseload went past 74 lakh, while the number of people who have recuperated from the disease crossed 65 lakh pushing the recovery rate to 87.78 per cent, according to data updated by the Union Health Ministry on Saturday.

The coronavirus death toll climbed to 1,12,998 with the virus claiming 837 lives in a day, while the infection tally mounted to 74,32,680 with 62,212 new cases being reported, the data updated at 8 am showed. The active cases of coronavirus infection dropped below eight lakh for the first time in one-and-half months, the ministry said.

For nine days in a row the active cases remained below nine lakh.

Need To Identify Clusters That Can Turn Into Covid Hotspots: WHO Chief Scientist
World Health Organisation Chief Scientist Sowmya Swaminathan on Saturday said clusters and large gatherings which have the potential of spreading COVID-19 need to be identified and suggested continuous testing of samples by the government.

With a huge population in a country like India, she said, one has to go after the virus in order to control its spread before it becomes a community transmission.

"When we look at countries that have succeeded (in controlling the spread of virus) we have to go after the virus where it is present. Then it is easier (to prevent the spread of virus) than it becomes a community transmission," she said.

Global COVID-19 cases cross 39.5 million
The global coronavirus caseload now stands at 39.5 million cases, according to the latest updates provided by Johns Hopkins University.

According to the University tracker, there are 39,502,909 COVID-19 cases globally and 1,106,705 patients globally have succumbed to the virus.

Globally, 27,148,927 patients infected from the virus have recovered, the tracker states.

The US continues to be the worst-affected country due to the virus with 8,086,780 cases and 218,980 fatalities, which are the most deaths in the world.

As many as 3,197,539 patients across the US have recovered from the disease.

State Health Department said 12 more people succumbed to the virus taking the death toll in the state to 1,735.

According to the State Health Department, of 1,992 new cases, 372 were reported in Jaipur. The state has 21,255 active cases.

COVID-19: France reports over 32,000 new cases
France on Saturday reported a record rise in COVID-19 cases with 32,427 new infections registered over the past 24 hours, according to figures from the Sante Publique agency heading the coronavirus response in the country.

This takes the total number of infected since the beginning of the pandemic to 867,197, the tenth highest in the world.

The number of fatalities from the disease has increased by 90 since the last update, taking the total to 33,392, according to the Sante Publique.

According to the agency's figures, 7,198 people have been hospitalized with COVID-19 in the past week, 1,269 of whom were taken intensive care.

COVID-19: Nagaland reports 94 new cases
Nagaland reported 94 new cases of COVID-19 on Saturday and 30 patients have recovered in the past 24 hours.

Dimapur recorded 55 new cases each while 23 cases were recorded in Kohima, along with nine in Mon, three in Zunheboto, and two each in Mokokchung and Peren.

Meanwhile, with a spike of 62,212 new cases and 837 deaths in the last 24 hours, India's COVID-19 count reached 74,32,681 on Saturday according to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW).

COVID-19: Mumbai reports 1,791 new cases, 47 deaths
A total of 1,791 new COVID-19 cases and 47 deaths were reported from Mumbai in the last 24 hours.

Municipal Corporation Greater Mumbai said on Saturday that the total number of cases in the metropolis now stands at 2,40,339, including 18,717 active cases and 2,08,099 discharges. It said 9,682 persons have died due to the virus.

With 1,85,270 total active cases, Maharashtra continues to be the worst affected state by COVID-19 in the country.

COVID-19: 946 cases, 42 deaths in Pune; 860 discharged
Pune district reported 946 COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, taking the caseload to 3,13,645, while the death count increased by 42 to touch 7,418, an official said on Saturday.

A total of 860 people were discharged during the day, he added.

Of the 946 cases, 418 were detected in Pune Municipal Corporation limits, which has recorded 1,57,051 cases so far, while the tally in Pimpri Chinchwad rose by 209 to reach 85,323, he said.

COVID-19: Delhi records 35 more deaths, count rises to 5,981; infection tally 3.27 lakh
 The national capital recorded 35 COVID-19 fatalities on Saturday, taking the death count to 5,981, while 3,259 fresh cases pushed the infection tally to over 3.27 lakh, authorities said.

These fresh cases came out of the 55,715 tests conducted the previous day.

On October 10 and September 29 as well, 48 fatalities were reported in the city, the highest number of deaths recorded in a day since July 16, when Delhi saw 58 fatalities.

Thirty-five more fatalities have been recorded, taking the death count to 5,981, according to the latest bulletin issued by the Delhi health department.

The tally of active cases on Saturday slightly rose to 22,884 from 22,814 the previous day.

The total number of cases has climbed to 3,27,818, the bulletin added. The number of containment zones in Delhi slightly increased to 2,751 from 2,741 on Friday.

COVID-19: Assam's tally crosses two lakh-mark with 672 fresh cases
The COVID-19 tally in Assam crossed the two lakh-mark on Saturday with 672 new cases, while 12 more fatalities pushed the death toll to 865, Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said.

The fresh infections have increased the northeastern state's caseload to 2,00,391.

Of the new fatalities, three were reported from Jorhat, two from Golaghat and one each from Sivasagar, Kamrup Rural, Kamrup Metropolitan, Karbi Anglong, Dhemaji, Dibrugarh and Chirang, Sarma said.

"Very sad and anguished to inform that 12 more COVID positive patients have succumbed to the disease... My condolences to the family. We stand by you in this hour of grief," he said on Twitter.

The fatality rate in the state is currently at 0.43 per cent.

The new cases included 149 from Kamrup Metropolitan, the minister said.

The count of COVID-19 cases in Nashik district of Maharashtra rose to 88,861 with an addition
of 491 cases on Saturday, while 13 deaths took the count to 1,591, an official said.

A total of 80,123 persons have been discharged so far, including 401 on Saturday, PTI reported.

Coronavirus news: 2,515 new coronavirus cases in Chhattisgarh, 14 deaths

Chhattisgarh's COVID-19 count rose to 1,58,502 on Saturday after 2,515 people were detected with the infection, while the number of people who have recovered reached 1,29,883, an official said.

Fourteen more deaths were recorded in the state, taking the count to 1,439, he said.

The COVID-19 death count in Punjab rose to 3,999 on Saturday after 19 more people succumbed to the disease, while 427 new cases took the infection tally to 1,27,154, according to a medical bulletin.

The places which reported new coronavirus cases include Jalandhar (73), Ludhiana (54) and Mohali (48), the bulletin said.

The death count in Iran from the novel coronavirus pandemic has crossed the 30,000 mark, the health ministry announced Saturday.

The COVID-19 death count in Haryana rose to 1,640 on Saturday with six more fatalities, while 1,148 fresh cases pushed the infection tally to 1,49,081, a state health department bulletin here said.

Of the new fatalities, three were reported from Karnal and one each from Panchkula, Bhiwani and Jind districts, it said.

Coronavirus news: Israel set to ease coronavirus lockdown measures from Sunday

Israel is preparing to ease some lockdown restrictions from Sunday in the "first phase" of scaling back measures imposed last month to stem soaring novel coronavirus infection rates.

Israel, a country of about nine million people, has recorded 301,896 coronavirus cases, including 2,141 deaths, AFP reported.
