New Delhi:

India recorded 18,346 fresh COVID-19 infections in the last 24 hours, the lowest in over 6 months, the Union Health Ministry informed on Tuesday.

With this, the active caseload of the country stands at 2,52,902; accounting for less than 1 per cent of the total cases.

As per the ministry, the recovery rate of India is at its highest since March 2020 and currently stands at 97.93 per cent.

As many as 29,639 recoveries were reported in the last 24 hours, taking the total recoveries to 3,31,50,886.

A total number of 57,53,94,042 tests have been conducted so far.

Central Team In Mizoram To Assess Covid Situation Amid Rise In Cases

A four-member central team, led by National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) consultant-epidemiologist Dr Vinita Gupta, arrived in Aizawl on Tuesday to assess the COVID-19 situation, amid the surge in infections in the state, an official statement in Aizawl said.

Shortly after the team's arrival in the state capital on Tuesday, its members held a meeting with officials of State Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme (IDSP), chief medical officers (CMOs) of Aizawl East and Aizawl West and discussed ways to combat the situation.

The team will hold another virtual meeting with chief medical officers of various districts on Wednesday to review the measures being taken to control the spread of the disease across the state, the statement said.

COVID-19: Haryana reports one death, 14 fresh cases

Haryana reported one Covid-related death on Tuesday as 14 fresh cases pushed the state's infection count to 7,70,938.

According to the Health Department's daily bulletin, the deaths reached 9,875 after one fatality was reported from Panchkula district.

Meanwhile, Gurgaon and Yamunanagar reported five and seven cases, respectively.

The total active cases in the state were 110 while the overall recoveries were 7,60,780.

The recovery rate was 98.68 per cent, the bulletin said.

Delhi reports 27 new COVID-19 cases

Delhi reported 27 new COVID-19 cases and 76 recoveries in the last 24 hours.

According to a Delhi government bulletin, the total count of cases in the national capital has gone up to 14,39,027 and the recoveries stand at 14,13,590.

The city has 349 active cases and a positivity rate of 0.05 per cent. The death toll is 25,088 and no fatality due to the disease was reported in the last 24 hours.

The bulletin said that 55,537 tests were conducted in the last 24 hours.

Goa logs 86 new COVID-19 cases; two fatalities

As many as 86 persons tested positive for coronavirus, while two died of the infection in Goa on Tuesday, an official from the state health department said.

With this, the tally of infections in the state rose to 1,76,767, while the deaths reached 3,322, the official said.

At least 66 patients were discharged from hospitals during the day, taking the count of recoveries to 1,72,698, and leaving the coastal state with 747 active cases, he said.

With the addition of 4,256 swab samples tested during the day, the total number of tests conducted in the state has gone up to 13,73,627, the official added.

COVID-19: 523 new cases, 14 deaths in Karnataka

Karnataka has reported 523 new cases of COVID-19 and 14 deaths, taking the total number of infections to 29,78,808 and deaths to 37,845, the Health department said on Tuesday.

The day also saw 575 discharges, taking the total number of recoveries in the state so far to 29,29,008.

Out of 523 new cases reported on Tuesday, 201 were from Bengaluru Urban, as the city saw 238 discharges and 4 deaths. Total number of active cases in the state is at 11,926.

While the positivity rate for the day stood at 0.59 per cent, case fatality rate (CFR) was at 2.67 per cent.

Out of 14 deaths reported on Tuesday 4 are from Bengaluru Urban; Uttara Kannada (3), Mysuru (2), followed by others.

Among the districts where the new cases were reported, Bengaluru Urban accounted for 201, Dakshina Kannada 55, Chikkamagaluru 48, Tumakuru 37, Mysuru 33, followed by others.

1,449 new COVID-19 cases, 16 deaths in Tamil Nadu

Tamil Nadu on Tuesday logged 1,449 fresh COVID-19 cases, taking the overall tally to 26,71,411, while 16 deaths took the total number to 35,682.

Recoveries eclipsed new infections with 1,548 people getting discharged in the last 24 hours, aggregating to 26,18,980 leaving 16,749 active infections, a health department bulletin said.

Three districts comprised the majority of new infections with Chennai accounting for 179 cases, Coimbatore 151, Chengalpet 113, while the remaining were scattered across other districts.

Four districts reported below 10 cases each, while there were no fresh deaths in 27 districts.

A total of 1,46,735 samples were tested in the last 24 hours, pushing the cumulative number of specimens examined so far to 4,77,45,420.

Kerala records 9,735 fresh COVID-19 cases, 151 deaths

Kerala on Tuesday for the second day running reported less than 10,000 fresh COVID-19 cases -- 9,735 to be exact -- and 151 deaths, taking the infection caseload to 47,38,818 and the deaths to 25,677.

The number of people who recovered from the infection since Monday was 13,878, which brought the total recoveries to 45,88,084 and the active cases to 1,24,441, an official press release said.

As many as 93,202 samples were tested in the last 24 hours, it said. Among the 14 districts, Thrissur recorded the highest number of cases with 1,367, followed by Thiruvananthapuram (1,156) and Ernakulam (1,099).

Kerala has been showing a decline in daily fresh cases after crossing the 30,000 mark post the Onam festival in August.

Over 91.77 crore COVID-19 vaccine doses provided to states, union territories

More than 91.77 crore COVID-19 vaccine doses have been provided to states and union territories so far through free of cost channel, informed the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Tuesday.

The ministry said the Central Government is committed to accelerating the pace and expanding the scope of COVID-19 vaccination throughout the country.

It has so far provided 91,77,37,885 vaccine doses to States, UTs so far through free of cost channel and through direct state procurement category

It further said 6,73,07,240 balance and unutilized COVID vaccine doses are still available with the states and union territories to be administered.

29 Odisha districts turn into "Green Zones" as active Covid cases fall below 1,000

Twenty-nine of Odisha's 30 districts have been declared "Green Zones", as active COVID-19 cases came down across the state, a health department official said.

Khurda was the only district identified as 'Yellow Zone'' for reporting over 2,000 active cases, while the figure in all other districts stands at below 1,000, he said.

Meanwhile, the state registered 453 fresh COVID-19 cases on Tuesday, including 53 children under 18 years of age, raising the tally to 10,28,819.

The deaths climbed to 8,223 with three more fatalities.

Odisha now has 4,935 active cases, and 10,15,608 patients have recovered from the disease so far, the official said.

Of the fresh infections, 265 were detected in quarantine centres and the rest were local-contact cases.

Russia Records 25,110 COVID-19 Cases In Past 24 Hours
Russia recorded 25,110 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, down from 25,781 the day before, bringing the cumulative total to 7,637,427, the federal response center said on Tuesday.

"Over the past day, 25,110 COVID-19 cases were confirmed across 85 Russian regions, including 2,110 cases (8.4%) without clinical symptoms," the center said, adding that the rate of increase fell to 0.33%.

Weekly Global Covid Deaths Lowest In Nearly A Year: Report

The weekly number of coronavirus deaths worldwide has fallen to levels unseen for almost a year, according to an AFP count on Monday based on official national figures.

The 53, 245 deaths recorded worldwide between September 27 and October 3, an average of 7,606 each day, showed that the global pandemic continues the downward trend that began at the end of August, after a peak of around 10,000 deaths per day.

The new weekly deaths figure is the lowest recorded since October 31-November 6, 2020.
