Coronavirus India Highlights: 11,106 Fresh COVID-19 Cases In India, 7% Lower Than Yesterday

Britain registered 44,242 new COVID-19 infections, bringing the total number of coronavirus cases in the country to 97,66,153, according to official figures released Friday.

The country also reported a further 157 coronavirus-related deaths. The total number of coronavirus-related deaths in Britain now stands at 1,43,716. These deaths only include people who died within 28 days of their first positive test.

There are currently 8,079 patients in hospital with COVID-19.

The latest data came as the Office for National Statistics (ONS) said in total, the country recorded 9,65,000 coronavirus cases in the week to November 13. This is the first time the number has fallen under a million since October.

Meghalaya on Friday recorded 38 new COVID-19 cases pushing the active coronavirus tally to 286, health officials said.

Health Services director Dr. Aman War said that the deaths remained at 1,467 while the total caseload has increased to 84,188, the official said.

Out of the new cases, 26 cases were detected in East Khasi Hills district, six in East Garo Hills, three in West Khasi Hills, two in West Garo Hills, and one in Ri Bhoi district respectively.

No COVID-19 fatalities were registered on Friday.

Twenty-three people have recovered from the infection during the day taking the total number of recovered persons to 82,435.

The state has also conducted over 11.84 lakh tests to date.

West Bengal's Covid-19 tally went up to 16,08,393 on Friday after 877 more people, up from the previous day's figure of 860, were diagnosed with the disease, the health department said in a bulletin.

Nine fresh fatalities due to coronavirus were also reported in the state pushing the deaths to 19,364, even as the fatality rate remained unchanged at 1.20 per cent. Fourteen Covid-19 patients had died on Thursday.

The state recorded a positivity rate of 1.98 per cent, slightly higher than Thursday's count of 1.95 per cent. On November 17, 16 and 15, the figures were 1.97 per cent, 2.21 per cent and 2.88 per cent respectively.

Of the 877 fresh cases, Kolkata accounted for the maximum at 242, while neighbouring North 24 Parganas registered 158, the bulletin said.

Gujarat reported 36 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours, taking the infection tally in the state to 8,27,148, a health department official said on Friday evening, according to news agency PTI. With a patient dying in Valsad, the death count rose to 10,091 he added. As 16 patients were discharged from hospitals, the recovery count rose to 8,16,726. The state has 331 active cases including five patients on ventilator support.

An official release said 7.65 crore COVID-19 vaccine doses have been administered in the state so far, including 3.42 lakh on Friday.

Chhattisgarh's COVID-19 tally reached 10,06,494 on Friday with the addition of 35 cases, while the death count remained unchanged at 13,591, an official said, according to news agency PTI. The recovery count touched 9,92,613 after five people were discharged from hospitals and 12 completed home isolation, leaving the state with 290 active cases, he said.

"Raipur recorded 12 cases, followed by seven in Jashpur and five in Durg. No fresh cases were reported in 19 districts. With 16,372 samples being examined during the day, the number of coronavirus tests conducted in Chhattisgarh so far went up to 14,031,749," he added. Haryana reported 22 new COVID-19 cases on Friday, pushing the tally to 7,71,517, the health department's daily bulletin said, according to news agency PTI. No fresh death due to the disease was reported in the state and the death count remained unchanged at 10,052, it said. Of the fresh cases, 14 were detected from Gurgaon. The total active cases in the state are 112, while the overall recoveries were 7,61,330, the bulletin said. The recovery rate was 98.68 percent, it added.

The cumulative number of COVID-19 vaccine doses administered in the country crossed 115.73 crore on Friday, the Union health ministry said, according to news agency PTI. More than 46 lakh (46,31,286) vaccine doses have been administered till 7 pm on Friday, it said. The daily vaccination tally is expected to increase with the compilation of the final reports for the day by late night, the ministry said.

Jammu and Kashmir recorded 193 fresh COVID-19 cases on Friday, taking the infection tally to 3,35,016, officials said, according to news agency PTI. No fatality due to the virus was reported from the Union territory in the past 24 hours, they said. Twenty-three of the fresh cases were from the Jammu division and 170 from the Kashmir division, the officials said.

They said Srinagar district recorded a maximum of 61 cases followed by 43 cases in Kupwara district. There are 1,669 active cases in the Union territory, while the count of recoveries has reached 3,28,888, the officials said. The death count from the pandemic remained unchanged at 4,459.

Meanwhile, the officials said there were 49 confirmed cases of Mucormycosis (Black Fungus) in the UT as no fresh case was reported.

Karnataka on Friday logged 242 fresh COVID-19 cases and four deaths taking the caseload to 29,93,139 and the death count to 38,169, reported news agency PTI. A health department release said 329 people were discharged, taking the total number of recoveries to 29,47,683. Active cases stood at 7,258.

Bengaluru Urban remained the major contributor of COVID cases with 144 fresh infections and two deaths. Other districts too reported fresh cases including 14 in Tumakuru, 12 in Dakshina Kannada, 11 each in Hassan and Kodagu and 10 in Uttara Kannada. Chamarajanagar and Koppal recorded one death each.

Delhi recorded zero death due to COVID-19 and 30 fresh cases of the infection with a positivity rate of 0.05 per cent on Friday, according to data shared by the city health department, reported news agency PTI. The total number of coronavirus cases stood at 14,40,605 in the national capital. Over 14.15 lakh patients have recovered from the infection. The death count due to the coronavirus infection in Delhi stands at 25,095.

Four fatalities have so far been reported in the city this month -- two on November 12 and one each on November 14 and November 15. Delhi reported four COVID-19 deaths in October and five in September. The case positivity rate stood at 0.05 per cent on Friday, according to the latest health bulletin.

Maharashtra on Friday reported 906 new COVID-19 cases and 15 fresh fatalities, taking the infection tally to 66,28,744 and the death count to 1,40,707, a health department official said, according to news agency PTI. The state has witnessed a marginal dip in new COVID-19 cases and also fatalities as compared to Thursday, when it had logged 963 cases and 24 deaths.

Ten districts and three municipal corporations did not report any new COVID-19 cases. The official said 918 patients were discharged from hospitals in the last 24 hours, pushing recovery count to 64,72,681. He said the state has 11,704 active cases, while currently 99,369 people are in home quarantine and another 1,009 in institutional quarantine.

Seven outlets in Sarafa Bazar in Indore in Madhya Pradesh were sealed by the district administration after it was found that 15 staffers had not taken the second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine despite the due date having passed, an official said on Friday, according to news agency PTI. These establishments are run by persons hailing from West Bengal, he said.

"During a probe, we found 15 employees of seven establishments in Sarafa Bazar were not fully vaccinated despite their due date for the second dose having passed. The administration had requested association functionaries to get their members fully vaccinated but they have failed to do so," Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Akshay Singh Markam said.

Telangana on Friday reported 137 new COVID-19 cases, pushing the tally to 6,74,318, while one more death took the fatality count to 979, according to news agency PTI. The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) continued to account for the most number of cases with 48, followed by Ranga Reddy (16) and Karimnagar (11). The number of recoveries outnumbered fresh cases with 173 people recuperating from the infectious disease, taking the total number till date to 6,66,682, a state government bulletin said, providing details as of 5.30 PM on Friday. The number of active cases stood at 3,657.

Kerala logged 5,754 fresh COVID-19 cases, including 37 health workers, and 49 deaths on Friday, taking the total affected in the state to 50,89,849 and the death count to 37,051, reported news agency PTI. Among the districts, Ernakulam reported the highest number of cases on Friday--1,109, followed by Thiruvananthapuram with 929 and Kozhikode with 600 cases, the health department said in a release.

Recoveries (6,489) outnumbered fresh cases, taking the total cured in the state to 49,90,817. Active cases stood at 61,348, out of which only 6.8 per cent have been admitted to hospitals," the release said.

Mumbai on Friday reported 238 new COVID-19 cases and two deaths, a civic official said, according to news agency PTI. It took the infection tally of the metropolis to 7,60,738 and death count to 16,302. With 272 people discharged from hospitals, the recovery count rose to 7,39,075, which is 97 per cent of the caseload.

It left the country's financial capital with 2,808 active cases, the official said.

As many as 33,273 samples were examined for coronavirus infection since Thursday evening, raising the number of tests conducted so far in Mumbai to 1,20,71,185.

Andhra Pradesh reported 168 fresh cases of COVID-19, 301 recoveries and two deaths in 24 hours ending 9 am on Friday, reported news agency PTI. A health department bulletin said the total COVID-19 cases in the state has now risen to 20,70,906, recoveries to 20,54,056 and deaths 14,425. The active cases dropped further down to 2,425, it said.

All 13 districts in the state now have less than 500 active cases each, with East Godavari topping with 486, followed by Krishna 425 and Chittoor 401. Six districts have active cases in only double digits, the lowest being 13 in Kurnool.
