Coronavirus Highlights: India Administers Over 1 Crore Covid Vaccine Doses, Highest In A Day

According to the CoWIN portal, the vaccination coverage in the country has crossed 62,17,06,882 doses.

COVID-19 in India: According to the CoWIN portal, 1,00,64,032 jabs were administered on Friday.

India administered more than one crore COVID-19 vaccine doses on Friday, the highest ever in a day, the Union Health Ministry said. According to the CoWIN portal, the COVID-19 vaccination coverage in the country has crossed 62,17,06,882 doses.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi hailed those behind the vaccination drive and also praised people getting inoculated. "Record vaccination numbers today! Crossing 1 crore is a momentous feat. Kudos to those getting vaccinated and those making the vaccination drive a success," he tweeted.

Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, in a tweet, said, "Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, Sabka Prayas... This is the same effort by which the country has crossed the figure of more than 1 crore vaccines in one day. This is the result of tireless work of health workers and PM Narendra Modi."

According to the CoWIN portal, 1,00,64,032 jabs were administered on Friday.

Assam logs 586 new COVID-19 cases, 9 fresh fatalities

Assam's COVID-19 tally rose to 5,88,025 on Saturday as 586 more people tested positive for the infection, while nine fresh fatalities pushed the state's coronavirus deaths to 5,636, a health bulletin said. 

Kamrup Metropolitan district registered the highest number of new cases at 123, followed by Golaghat (71) and Barpeta and Jorhat (36 each). 

Four fresh fatalities were recorded in Barpeta, while Dibrugarh, Golaghat, Kamrup Metro, Kamrup Rural and Nagaon reported one death each. 

The state now has 6,087 active cases, while 5,74,955 people have recovered from the disease so far, including 675 in the last 24 hours, it said, adding that the recovery rate stood at 97.78 per cent.

1,60,000 protest in France against Covid rules

A total of 1,60,000 people protested across France on Saturday, the interior ministry said, angered at the country's Covid health pass system which they say unfairly restricts the unvaccinated.

By early evening the authorities had logged 222 separate protest actions, including 14,500 people who turned out in Paris.

Sixteen people were arrested and three police officers slightly injured in what was the seventh consecutive weekend of Covid protests.

Haryana sees 13 fresh COVID-19 cases, one more death

The total number of COVID-19 cases in Haryana increased to 7,70,445 as 13 more people tested positive for the disease, while the deaths climbed to 9,673 with one more fatality. 

According to the health department's daily bulletin, Gurugram reported three fresh cases and Yamunanagar four. The latest death was reported from Jhajjar district, the bulletin said.

There are 657 active COVID-19 cases in Haryana. So far, 7,60,115 people have recovered from the disease and the state has a recovery rate of 98.66 per cent, it said.

Risk of hospitalisations higher with Delta variant: Study
Those infected with the Delta variant of COVID-19 in the UK have been found to be twice as likely to be admitted to hospital compared to the Alpha variant, according to a large new study.

The study, carried out by Public Health England (PHE) and Cambridge University and published in 'The Lancet'' journal on Friday, is the first of its kind to compare the hospitalisation risk of the two variants and highlights the need for people to be fully vaccinated.

S Korea reports 1,793 more COVID-19 cases, 246,951 in total

South Korea reported 1,793 more cases of COVID-19 as of midnight Friday compared to 24 hours ago, raising the total number of infections to 246,951.

The daily caseload was down from 1,841 in the prior day, but it hovered above 1,000 for 53 straight days. The daily average tally for the past week was 1,746.

Over 60.25 crore COVID-19 doses provided to states, UTs: Centre

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Saturday said that 60,25,95,250 COVID-19 vaccine doses have been provided to states and union territories so far through the direct state procurement category.

The ministry further said that 1,51,58,650 vaccine doses are in the pipeline.

Mizoram reports 886 new cases, single day positivity rate 10.33 per cent

Mizoram's COVID-19 tally surged to 56,642 as 886 more people, including 186 children, tested positive for the virus in the last 24 hours, a health department official said on Saturday.

The single-day positivity rate was 10.33 per cent as the fresh cases were detected from 8,576 samples, the official said.

Ladakh reports 8 new Covid cases

Ladakh's COVID-19 tally climbed to 20,530 after detection of eight new cases, while 10 Coronavirus patients were discharged bringing down the number of active cases in the union territory to 64, officials said on Saturday.

Ladakh has registered 207 Covid-related deaths so far - 149 in Leh district and 58 in Kargil district - since the outbreak of the pandemic last year.
