Coronavirus Highlights: India, which has so far administered 80.43 crore vaccine doses, is looking to protect the population and welcome back tourists.

Coronavirus India Updates: The active cases stood at 3,18,181, the Centre said.

New Delhi:

India on Sunday reported 30,256 new coronavirus infections in the past 24 hours as the country seeks to reopen the country to overseas tourists. The active cases in the country stood at 3,18,181, it said.

India, which has so far administered 80.43 crore vaccine doses, is looking to protect the population and welcome back tourists.

First five lakh foreign tourists will be issued visas free of cost in an attempt to revive the tourism, hospitality and aviation sectors badly hit by the COVID-19 pandemic since March 2020 when a nationwide lockdown was announced.

Top Union Home Ministry officials are deliberating with all stakeholders on the expected date and modalities for opening up of the country for foreign tourists.

Schools In Jammu Reopen For Classes 10, 12
After remaining closed for months to prevent the spread of coronavirus, various schools reopened on Monday for students of Classes 10 and 12 across Jammu in accordance with the fresh government guidelines, officials said. However, they said the attendance in both private and government schools for the two classes was low but expected to pick up in the coming days.

All educational institutions, including universities and colleges, were closed for offline classes on April 18 to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

US To Lift Covid Travel Ban For Fully Vaccinated Passengers From November
The United States announced Monday it will lift Covid travel bans on all air passengers in November if they are fully vaccinated and undergo testing and contact tracing.

Jeffrey Zients, coronavirus response coordinator for President Joe Biden, told reporters the new "consistent approach" would take effect "early November."

The easing of travel restrictions, imposed 18 months ago by Donald Trump as the Covid-19 pandemic first erupted, marks a significant shift by Biden and answers a major demand from European allies at a time of strained diplomatic relations.

US To Lift Covid Travel Ban For Vaccinated EU, UK Passengers: Report
The United States will lift an 18-month-old travel ban on the European Union and Britain, allowing vaccinated travelers to enter beginning in November, reports said Monday.

The easing of travel restrictions, imposed by Donald Trump as the Covid-19 pandemic first erupted, would mark a significant shift by President Joe Biden at a time of strained relations with European allies.

The news was reported by the Financial Times and CNN. The White House did not respond immediately to a request for comment.

According to the reports, the new rule will open the door to fully vaccinated passengers and also those in clinical trials for vaccines not yet approved in Britain -- a policy applying to about 40,000 people.

India To Resume Export Of Surplus Covid Vaccines, Donations Next Month
India will resume the export and donations of surplus vaccines from next month, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya announced on Monday, a day before Prime Minister Narendra Modi visits the US where the issue was likely to be raised by President Joe Biden.

India, the world's biggest maker of vaccines overall, stopped vaccine exports in April to focus on inoculating its own population as infections exploded.

The government wants to vaccinate all of its 94.4 crore adults by December and has so far given at least one dose to 61 per cent of them.

The resumption of exports deliberations come ahead of PM Modi's visit to Washington starting Tuesday where vaccines are likely to be discussed at a summit of the leaders of the Quad countries - the United States, India, Japan and Australia.

Pfizer Covid Vaccine Safe For Children Aged 5-11: Clinical Trial Results
Pfizer and BioNTech on Monday said clinical trial results showed their coronavirus vaccine was "safe, well tolerated" and produced a "robust" immune response in children aged five to 11, adding that they would seek regulatory approval shortly.

The vaccine would be administered at a lower dosage than for people 12 and over, the companies said in a statement. They said they would submit their data to regulatory bodies in the European Union, the United States and around the world "as soon as possible".

"Focus On Studies": Supreme Court To Student On Plea To Reopen Schools
Focus on studies, not filing petitions, the Supreme Court today advised a Class XII student who petitioned the top court seeking resumption of physical classes in schools arguing that the coronavirus pandemic has "substantially subsided".

"Tell the child to focus on studies and not on filing petitions...I am not saying it's a publicity gimmick but the kind of relief that has been sought, is misplaced," said the two-judge bench, of DY Chandrachud and BV Nagarathnam, dismissing the plea.

The top court spotlighted that different states have different rules and it can't be one size fits all, adding that children should refrain from filing such pleas.

Puducherry Adds 54 Fresh COVID-19 Cases, Overall Tally Up To 1,25,517
Puducherry logged 54 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours as the overall tally climbed to 1,25,517. The number of active cases in the union territory stood at 867. The 54 new infections were identified at the end of the examination of 4,069 samples and were spread over Puducherry (34), Karaikal (15) and Mahe (five).

The overall caseload stood at 1,25,517.

Pakistan Reports Over 2,167 Fresh Cases Of COVID-19 In Last 24 Hours
Pakistan reported 2,167 fresh cases of COVID-19 after 51,348 tests were conducted across the country in the last 24 hours, according to Pakistan''s National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) data. As many as 40 deaths were reported due to COVID-19 in the last 24 hours, said NCOC data. The positivity rate fell to 4.22 per cent, as compared to the previous day''s 4.68 per cent. According to NCOC data, at least 4,840 patients were in critical care.

World Health Organisation's (WHO) approval for the emergency use authorisation (EUA) to COVID-19 vaccine Covaxin, developed by the Hyderabad-based Bharat Biotech, is likely to be delayed till October 5.
