Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to address the nation to announce his decision on whether the coronavirus lockdown will end on Tuesday. Sources say the lockdown may be extended but with many changes this time around. Interstate movement will remain restricted, except for essential services.

The health ministry today said that they have successfully evacuated nearly 3,473 foreigners from the country. Indians are also being evacuated from abroad. The work is still in progress. On Hydroxychloroquine, the ministry said that exports of this drug and four other medicines were restricted but since the demands were rising worldwide these restrictions have been relaxed. However, the ministry has assured that there is adequate stock for India. The ministry added that over one crore Indians are provided with food on daily basis amid lockdown. The borders are under strict vigilance, especially those where there is no proper fencing. The health ministry today confirmed that the coronavirus death count in India has become 206 while the total number of cases jumped to 6,761.

Coronavirus News: Chief Justice To Review Functioning Of Top Court Every 3-4 Days Amid COVID-19
Chief Justice S A Bobde will review the functioning of the Supreme court every three to four days in consultation with other judges and officials of health ministry in view of the nationwide lockdown due to the coronavirus or COVID-19 pandemic, an office bearer of Supreme Court Bar Association said.

"I spoke to Chief Justice of India (CJI) on April 10 at 12 noon and was informed that he was going to review the situation after every 3/4 days after consulting the other Judges and health ministry. Till then status quo. So better, we wait for a while," Advocate Ashok Arora said.

The top court on March 23 virtually went into the lockdown to prevent the spread of coronavirus and had suspended for indefinite period the entry of advocates and other staff in the high security zone on the basis of their proximity cards, news agency PTI reported.

Coronavirus News: India's Border Sealed To Prevent Infiltration Of Criminals: Sashastra Seema Bal
Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) DG Kumar Rajesh Chandra on Friday said that the country's borders have been completely sealed and India has enforced strict lockdown and Nepal was doing the same by augmenting their deployment to prevent any infiltration by criminals taking the advantage of COVID-19 pandemic.

"We're enforcing strict lockdown and Nepal has been doing the same by augmenting their deployment. The letter is based on intelligence input about a criminal. We're looking into it," Mr Chandra said, news agency ANI reported.

Coronavirus News: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Warns Strict Action Against Lockdown Violators
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan today warned people who are violating the restrictions imposed in the state in the wake of coronavirus lockdown and asserted that strict action will be taken against violators.

"The government is making an appeal to people that we have to break the chain of coronavirus. People irrespective of all religions are supporting the government. But some people are trying to hide that they are infected with the virus," Chouhan told ANI.

"Several people from Jamaat hide this fact which is the reason the virus got spread in many districts. They are risking their lives along with others. There will be strict action. I am warning those people who are violating the restrictions," he said, news agency ANI reported.

Meghalaya Speaker Urges Chief Minister To Extend Lockdown Till April 30
Meghalaya Assembly Speaker Metbah Lyngdoh toay wrote to Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, urging him to extend the lockdown period till April 30, as the number of COVID-19 cases have been rising in the
country.

Though no such case has been reported from the state so far, the government should continue with the existing measures to tackle the crisis by end of the current month so that Meghalaya remains free of COVID-19, he said.

"There are increasing number of COVID-19 patients in the country. It is worrisome. I have written to the chief minister to consider extension of the lockdown period till April end," he told PTI.

Coronavirus News: Public Health Will Be Kept In Mind While Extending State Lockdown: Ashok Gehlot
Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot today said the decision on extending the lockdown in the state beyond April 14 will be taken while keeping public health in mind.

Discussing the situation through video conferencing with representatives of industrial organisations and various business associations, the chief minister said protecting the lives of people was paramount for the state government.

"Keeping this in mind, the decision on the lockdown will be taken," Mr Gehlot said.

Coronavirus News: 30 COVID-19 Cases Reported In Madhya Pradesh, Total Reaches 456 Mark
With 30 people testing positive for coronavirus in Madhya Pradesh today, the number of coronavirus cases in the state climbed to 456, while one moreperson succumbed to the disease, taking the death count to 37, health officials said.

Twenty-one new cases were reported in Bhopal, which took the tally of COVID-19 patients in the state capital to 119, they said.

Indore has reported the highest 235 cases in the state so far. But Friday's data of new cases from Indore, if any, was awaited.

A 65-year-old doctor died in Indore due to coronavirus infection today.

Coronavirus News: Odisha Seeks More COVID-19 Funds From Centre
The Odisha government today sought more funds, equipment and testing kits to effectively tackle the spread of COVID-19 in the state.

The state's Health and Family Welfare Minister NK Das earlier in the day briefed his counterpart in the Union government, Harsh Vardhan, through video-conferencing.

"We have demanded more Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) for doctors and healthcare workers... masks and COVID- 19 testing kits," Mr Das told reporters, news agency PTI reported.

Coronavirus News: With 98 Fresh COVID-19 Cases Reported In Rajasthan, Total Reachs 561 Mark
The total number of coronavirus cases in Rajasthan rose to 561 as 98 fresh cases were reported in the state today while the fatality count due to the disease increased to eight with the death of a 65-year-old woman at a hospital in Jaipur, officials said.

The fresh cases include eight people evacuated from Iran, they said.

Defence sources said all the 1,036 Indians evacuated from Iran had tested negative for the virus in that country but 50 of them have tested positive now. They were kept in Army-run quarantine facilities.

"With 98 fresh cases reported on Friday, the total number of COVID-19 patients has reached 561, whereas with the death of a 65-year-old woman who died at SMS hospital in Jaipur on Thursday evening, the number of deaths has increased to eight," an official said, news agency PTI reported.

Coronavirus News: Srinagar Tops COVID-19 Cases Among 13 Infected Districts In J&K
With 207 people infected with coronavirus, Srinagar has reported the most number of COVID-19 cases among the 13 districts of Jammu and Kashmir affected by the virus, according to official data released today.

Kashmir's nine districts have reported COVID-19 cases, except Anantnag in South Kashmir. Out of Jammu's 10 districts, four have been hit by the deadly virus.

The data showed that out of the total cases, 197 are active, six have recovered and four died.

Out of the total 51 positive cases in Srinagar, 49 are active, one has recovered and one died, news agency PTI reported.

Coronavirus News: 4 COVID-19 Infected Patients Recover In Himachal Pradesh
Four more COVID-19-infected patients have recovered in Himachal Pradesh, taking the total in the state to six, a senior health official said today.

Three patients admitted to a Shimla hospital on April 5 and another admitted to a hospital in Kangra district from Una on April, 3 have recovered from COVID-19, Additional Secretary (Health) RD Dhiman said in Shimla.

The reports of the three patients admitted in Shimla are found to be negative, he added, news agency PTI reported.

Coronavirus News: COVID-19 Cases In Delhi Tops 900, 183 Reported Today Itself
The total number of coronavirus cases in Delhi today climbed to 903, with 183 fresh cases and two deaths being reported in a day, according to the Delhi government authorities.

Of the total cases, 584 are related to the religious congregation that took place in Nizamuddin area in March.

Till Thursday night, the number of cases of the deadly virus in the city stood at 720 including 12 deaths.

With two more fatalities reported, the death count from COVID-19 in Delhi has jumped to 14.

Out of the total cases, 26 have been discharged and one has migrated out of the country, authorities said, news agency PTI reported.

One More COVID-19 Death In Tamil Nadu, 77 Test Positive
A 70-year-old woman died of coronavirus in Tamil Nadu today, taking the count in the state so far to nine, while 77 people tested positive, pushing the total to 911, Chief Secretary K Shanmugam said.

The Chief Secretaty said all the 77 people who tested positive were primary contacts and from various containment areas in the state.

"The new cases have been reported in those places which have been marked as containment or quarantine areas", he said.

The government, he said, was strengthening its efforts to contain the virus, news agency PTI reported.

Coronavirus News: Assam Seals Mosque Where 3 COVID-19 Infected Patients Stayed
The Assam government has sealed a mosque in Guwahati where three persons who later tested positive for COVID-19 had stayed to attend a religious congregation last month, Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said today.

Two of them had returned to Assam after attending a Tablighi Jamaat congregation in Delhi's Nizamuddin area. The third stayed with them at the Athgaon Kabarsthan Masjid and accompanied one of them to Dhubri, Sharma said at a press conference in Guwahati.

At least 100 people attended the gathering at the mosque on March 12 and the organisers have so far given the names of 58 people and they have been quarantined, he said.

"The fact that a congregation was held here was brought to our notice much later and we have asked the organisers to give a list of all people who attended it," he said, news agency PTI reported.

Coronavirus News: Salaries of Arunachal Ministers, MLAs Cut By 30% Amid COVID-19
In the wake of the coronavirus outbreak, the Arunachal Pradesh Cabinet today approved an ordinance to reduce salaries of all ministers and MLAs, including the chief minister, by 30 per cent for a year.

The cabinet headed by Chief Minister Pema Khandu decided to reduce the salaries with effect from April 1, 2020.

The fund will go to the state exchequer and utilised in the fight against COVID-19, a communique from the Chief Minister's Office said.

The cabinet also reviewed the preparedness of the state to contain the spread of coronavirus and efforts required to strengthen the infrastructure to tackle the situation, it said, news agency PTI reported.

Coronavirus News: In Mumbai's Dharavi, 6 Arrested For Good Friday Prayer Assembly Amid Lockdown: Police
Six people were arrested in Mumbai's Dharavi area for assembling to offer prayers on the occasion of Good Friday in violation of lockdown norms in place for the novel coronavirus outbreak, the police said.

Police got a tip-off that some people had gathered in a room in Gandhinagar society for prayers, and six were arrested
under sections of Indian Penal Code and Epidemic Diseases Act for disobeying official orders, and later released on bail, an official said.

Dharavi, one of the most congested urban clusters in the world, has seen several COVID-19 cases and authorities are taking all efforts to ensure it does not emerge as a hotspot in the metropolis, news agency PTI reported.

Coronavirus News: 161 Cyber Cases Reported In Maharashtra As Fake News Rise Amid COVID-19
The Maharashtra Cyber has registered 161 offences for circulation of hate speeches, fake news and rumours on social media platforms like Facebook, WhatsAapp, Instagram and Twitter in connection with the novel coronavirus outbreak, a senior police official said today.

Maharashtra Cyber Superintendent of Police Balsing Rajput said there was rise in hate speeches on such platforms.

"Out of the total cases we have registered, 73 are for hate speeches. So far we have arrested 39 people and 33 have been identified for further action. Our data shows 30 cases have been registered for fake news, rumours regarding the virus outbreak," he said, news agency PTI reported.
