Coronavirus cases in India:The total number of confirmed cases now stands at 54,00,619.

A fresh spike of 92,605 new cases in the last 24 hours took India's coronavirus tally to 54,00,619 cases, the Health Ministry data showed this morning. About 43 lakh Covid patients have recovered so far; 94,612 patients recovered in the last 24 hours, the government said. 

Twelve lakh samples- the highest in a day  so far- were tested since yesterday, the Health Ministry said in a tweet. This takes the total number of samples collected to 6,36,61,060. 

1,133 deaths linked to Covid registered since yesterday has taken the number of fatalities to 86,752. 

Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Uttar Pradesh are the worst-hit states by the outbreak. 

Meanwhile, the ongoing monsoon session of Lok Sabha will be curtailed by several days, the government decided on Saturday after consulting with the opposition at the Business Advisory Committee meeting this evening. The Centre is concerned for the safety of MPs after three of them - who had attended the session - tested positive for the coronavirus earlier this week, days after their mandatory test reports turned out negative.

The government had earlier held a discussion with the opposition as it had been trying to build a consensus. Many opposition parties were also in favour of winding up the session.

The session in Lok Sabha is likely to wrap up by Wednesday next week. Rajya Sabha, the upper House of parliament, is expected to follow suit.

Odisha Sees Record One-Day Spike Of 4,330 Covid Cases, Death Count Crosses 700
Odisha on Sunday registered its highest single-day spike of 4,330 COVID-19 cases, which pushed the state's infection count to 1,79,880, a health department official said.

The death count rose to 701 with 10 more people succumbing to the infection, he said, adding that the case fatality ratio (CFR) stands at 0.38 per cent.

"Regret to inform the demise of Ten #COVID19 positive patients while under treatment in hospitals," the state''s Health and Family Welfare Department said on Twitter.

According to the official, 4,018 patients were cured of the disease during the day, taking the total number of recoveries to 1,45,675, which is 80.98 per cent of the state's caseload.

Of the 4,330 new cases, 2,556 were reported from various quarantine centres, while the rest were detected during contact tracing, the official said.

Bengal Reports 61 Covid Deaths, 3,177 New Cases
The COVID-19 count in West Bengal rose to 4,359 on Sunday after 61 more patients died due to the disease, the health department said in a bulletin.

The case tally went up to 2,25,137 as 3,177 more people tested positive for the virus, it said.

The bulletin issued Sunday evening said 2,958 patients recovered from the disease in the last 24 hours, taking the discharge rate of the state to 87.05 per cent.

Altogether 1,95,972 people have been cured of COVID-19 so far, it said. The number of active cases is now 24,806, the bulletin said.

59 Fresh COVID-19 Cases In Nagaland
Nagaland reported 59 fresh cases of the novel coronavirus on Sunday taking the state's infection tally to 5,451.

"Out of 562 (test) results received, 59 positive cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed -- 45 in Dimapur and 14 in Kohima," Health Minister S Pangnyu Phom said on Twitter.

Seventy-eight people recovered from the disease on Sunday, he said. The recovery rate among coronavirus patients in the state currently stands at 77.56 per cent.

The active cases in the state stood at 1,184.

Fifteen people have died of the disease in Nagaland so far, while the fresh cases pushed the state's infection tally to 5,451.

Of the total coronavirus cases in Nagaland, 2,550 are armed force personnel and 1,444 are people who returned to the state from outside, an official said.

The state has so far tested 73,611 samples for COVID- 19, the official added.

UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath Launches New COVID-19 Application
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday launched a unified COVID-19 application which will help in better tracking of the pandemic in the state.

Speaking at the launch of labreports.upcovid19tracks.in app here, the Chief Minister said, "While tracing the pandemic in the state, we faced a number of problems as many patients, whose reports came positive, gave their wrong addresses and wrong contact numbers. Due to this, we faced a lot of problems controlling COVID-19 in the state."

"Till the time any treatment or vaccine comes for COVID-19, the only way to control the infection is by taking preventive measures. I am told that with this application, people can have a number of advantages like COVID call centre platform, integration with the Centre's app among others. I hope people will be benefitted with this new application."

COVID-19: Stubble Burning Can Exacerbate Coronavirus Crisis , Says Expert
The stubble burning which is likely to start later this month ahead of the Rabi crop sowing season can exacerbate the Coronavirus crisis, an agricultural-cum-environment expert has cautioned.

"If alternate arrangements to stubble burning are not made, pollutants like particulate matters and toxic gases like Carbon Monoxide and Methane could give rise to severe respiratory problems, which will further worsen the COVID 19 situation, as the Coronavirus also impacts the respiratory tract," Sanjeev Nagpal, also an advisor to the Union and the Punjab governments on the crop residue management, told PTI on Sunday.

"Last year, nearly 50,000 cases of stubble burning were reported in Punjab. Stubble burning contributes about 18 to 40 per cent of particulate matter to atmosphere in northern plains. It also emits large amounts of toxic pollutants like Methane, Carbon Monoxide and carcinogenic polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons," said Mr Nagpal, also the MD of Sampurn Agri Ventures Pvt Ltd (SAVPL).

Coronavirus: Four vaccines in advanced stages of pre-clinical trial, says Centre
Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan on Sunday informed that over four coronavirus vaccines are in advanced stages of pre-clinical trial in India.

"145 vaccine candidates across the world are under pre-clinical evaluation, around 35 under clinical trials. In India, we gave all support to 30 vaccine candidates -3 of these are in advanced trials of phases 1, 2, and 3. Over 4 in advanced stages of the pre-clinical trial," Harsh Vardhan said in the Lok Sabha during the discussion on the COVID-19 pandemic

The Minister also said that the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare received Rs 893.93 crores from PM-CARES Fund for 50,000 made in India ventilators.

"On January 30, World Health Organisation (WHO) warned the world about such disease. But we had started work from January 8. By January 17, we had issued a detailed health advisory and started point of entry surveillance and community surveillance. On January 30, when the first case in India was reported, authorities did 162 contact tracing," he said.

Air India Flights To Hong Kong Barred Till October 3 Over Covid+ve Passengers
Hong Kong has banned Air India flights from Sunday to October 3 after a few passengers on its flight on Friday tested positive for COVID-19 post arrival, a senior government official said on Sunday.

Air India passenger flights were barred from landing in Hong Kong between August 18 and August 31 after 14 passengers on its Delhi-Hong Kong flight of August 14 tested positive for COVID-19 post arrival.

Passengers from India can arrive in Hong Kong only if they have a COVID-19 negative certificate from a test done within 72 hours prior to the journey, according to rules issued by the Hong Kong government in July.

Moreover, all international passengers are required to undergo a post-flight COVID-19 test at the Hong Kong airport.

COVID-19: Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland Issue SOPs For Partial Re-Opening Of Schools
Assam and Nagaland are set for a phased re-opening of schools, which have been shut since the nationwide coronavirus lockdown began five months ago, from Monday in line with "Unlock" guidelines issue by the centre earlier this month.

In Assam teachers and non-teaching staff will be allowed to work from schools. Students above Class 9 will be allowed to attend on voluntary basis. Classes for other students (including those who opt not to attend) will continue online.

The Assam government has released a list of guidelines and SOPs (standard operating protocols) to be followed. These will come into effect from tomorrow and will be operative for the next 15 days.

COVID-19: Bihar reports 1,555 fresh cases; record 1.76 lakh samples tested in a day
The coronavirus caseload in Bihar went up to 1,68,541 after 1,555 new infections were detected, while the state tested a record 1.76 lakh samples for COVID-19 in a single day, the health department said in a bulletin on Sunday.

Three fresh fatalities were reported -- one each from Patna, Begusarai and Samastipur districts -- in the past 24 hours that took the death toll due to the disease to 864, the statement issued this evening said.

The bulletin said that 1,487 patients recovered from COVID-19, and the number of people who have recuperated so far is 1,54,443. The recovery rate in Bihar is 91.63 per cent now.
The state presently has 13,234 active cases.

A record 1,76,511 samples were tested for COVID-19 in the past 24 hours, taking the cumulative number of tests so far to over 57 lakh in the state.

The 1,555 new cases included 209 from Patna district, 101 from Muzaffarpur, 93 from Supaul and 73 each from East Champaran and Purnea, the bulletin said.
Meanwhile, the Muzaffarpur district administration and the Defence Research Development Organisation (DRDO) urged people to get themselves treated at a COVID-19 hospital set up recently by the defence agency.

COVID-19: Maharashtra reports 20,598 new cases, death count up by 455
Maharashtra recorded as many as 20,598 new coronavirus positive cases on Sunday, which took
the state's overall tally to 12,08,642, the health department said.

With the death of 455 patients, the state's fatality count mounted to 32,671, it said.

A total of 26,408 patients were discharged during the day, the department said in a statement.

So far, 8,84,341 patients have recovered in the state. There are 2,91,238 active cases in Maharashtra at present.

COVID-19: 2,305 new cases, record 29 deaths in one day in Haryana
Haryana on Sunday reported 29 more fatalities, its highest single-day toll linked to COVID-19, pushing the count to 1,149 while 2,305 fresh cases raised the infection tally to 1,11,257 in the state, according to a bulletin.

Of the fresh fatalities, three each were reported from Sirsa, Kurukshetra, Karnal and Ambala; two each from Faridabad, Sonipat, Hisar, Panchkula and Yamunanagar while a death each was recorded in Rohtak, Gurugram, Mahendragarh, Kaithal, Fatehabad, Nuh and Bhiwani districts, according to the state health department's daily bulletin.

Among the districts which reported a big spike in cases included Gurugram (405), Hisar (257), Sonipat (234), Faridabad (203), Amala (180), Panipat (141), Panchkula (133) and Yamunanagar (110).

The number of active cases in the state stands at 21,411 while a total of 88,697 people have been discharged after recovering from the infection.

Coronavirus news: Delhi records less than 4,000 daily COVID-19 cases after 5 days
The national capital's COVID-19 case count went past 2.46 lakh on Sunday with 3,812 more people contracting the viral disease, while 37 fresh fatalities pushed the death toll to 4,982, officials said.

Before this, the city recorded over 4,000 cases for five consecutive days.

The capital recorded 4,071 cases on Saturday, 4,127 on Friday, 4,432 on Thursday, 4,473 on Wednesday and 4,263 on Tuesday.

Of the total 2,46,711 cases reported in Delhi so far, 2,09,632 have either recovered, been discharged or migrated out.

As many as 52,405 tests were conducted on Saturday to detect COVID-19 infection, of which 11,322 were RTPCR/CBNAAT/TrueNat tests and 41,083 rapid antigen tests.

COVID-19: Ahmedabad adds 183 cases; four die
The number of COVID-19 cases in Ahmedabad district rose to 34,941 on Sunday with addition
of 183 new patients, Gujarat health department said.

With four deaths, the count went up to 1,798, it said.

A total of 145 patients were discharged during the day, taking the total count of recoveries in the district to 29,121, the department said in its release.

Of the 183 fresh cases, 161 were reported from Ahmedabad city and 22 from rural areas.

All the four fatalities occurred in the city, it said.

COVID-19: Virtual arrangements made for MLAs for one-day session in Madhya Pradesh
Arrangements have been made in all districts of Madhya Pradesh for legislators who want to
attend Monday's one-day session of the Legislative Assembly virtually, Protem Speaker Rameshwar Sharma said on Sunday.

He said MLAs have been given an option to attend virtually in view of the COVID-19 pandemic.

"Arrangements have been made at the National Informatics Centre (NIC) offices in every district," Mr Sharma told reporters.

Earlier in the day, Mr Sharma, Congress chief whip Govind Singh and officials of the Assembly secretariat took stock of the arrangements at the Vidhan Sabha premises.

Mr Sharma directed officials to ensure that COVID-19 protocol was followed.

About 40 MLAs had tested positive for coronavirus, Mr Sharma had said.

Record over 12 lakh COVID-19 tests conducted in 24 hours, says Centre
Crossing a crucial milestone in the battle against COVID-19, a record number of over 12 lakh tests were conducted in the country for the detection of the disease in a span of 24 hours, taking the total number of such tests performed so far to more than 6.36 crore (6,36,61,060), the Centre said on Sunday.

This strongly demonstrates a substantial strengthening of the COVID-19 testing infrastructure in the country, the health ministry said, underlining that India's daily testing numbers are among the highest in the world.

From conducting merely 10,000 tests per day on April 8, the average daily number has crossed 12 lakh with 12,06,806 tests conducted on Saturday.

The last one crore tests were conducted in merely nine days and the Tests Per Million (TPM) have been boosted to 46,131, the ministry highlighted.

COVID-19: Goa adds 407 new cases; 537 recover, nine die
Goa's COVID-19 count reached 28,429 on Sunday with addition of 407 cases, a state health department official said.

With nine deaths, the cumulative toll went up to 351 in the state, he said.

A total of 537 people were discharged after treatment during the day, taking the count of recoveries to 22,297, the official said.

Daily Covid Deaths In Delhi Stood In Range Of 30-40 In Last 5 Days: Data
The number of deaths from COVID-19 recorded daily in the national capital has hovered in the range of 30-40 from September 15-19, during which daily fresh cases were reported in excess of 4,000 on all five days, according to official data.

In this five-day period, however, the number of tests conducted every day have seen record numbers, ranging between 60,000 and over 62,000.

COVID-19 cases have shown a surge since the beginning of this month with September 16 recording 4,473 cases, the highest single-day spike here till date. On that day, 33 fatalities were recorded, taking the total number of deaths to 4839, according to official figures shared by the Delhi health department.

The daily cases and daily death counts recorded from September 15-19 stood at: 4263 (36 deaths); 4473 (33); 4432 (38); 4127 (30); and 4071 (38) respectively, according to official data.
