Coronavirus Latest Updates: With 92,071 cases has push India's coronavirus tally to 48,46,427 the Union Health Ministry data this morning showed. The death count has risen to 79,722 with 1,136 more fatalities.

37,80,107 patients have recovered from the infection in the country.

Maharashtra remains the state hit hardest by the pandemic, followed by Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Uttar Pradesh. India is the country with the second-highest coronavirus caseload in the world after the United States. 

The country's recovery rate now stands at 77.99 per cent, the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) informed on Monday.

Coronavirus update: Private hospitals in 5 cities asked to reserve 50 per cent beds and 80 per cent ICUs for COVID-19 patients in Odisha

The Odisha Government on Monday asked all the private hospitals with bed strength of 30 or more to reserve 50 per cent of the beds and 80 per cent of intensive care units (ICUs) for treatment of COVID-19 patients.

State Health and Family Welfare Department has issued an official notification in this regard.
Coronavirus update: Increase in testing a reason for rise in COVID-19 cases, says Dr AK Rana
Dr AK Rana, Medical Superintendent of Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital here said on Monday that increased testing was a reason for the rise in COVID-19 cases in the country.

"We can see the rising number in different ways. One way is to look is that now the testing is done at a very large scale in the country due to which more cases are coming to light. If the testing was lesser, the absolute number would have been lesser," Dr Rana told ANI.
Coronavirus update: Odisha to close down COVID care centres, homes due to nil occupancy
The Health and Family Welfare Department of Odisha Government has decided to close the COVID Care Centres (CCCs), Temporary Medical Centres (TMCs) and COVID Care Homes (CCHs) across the State due to nil occupancy.

Additional Chief Secretary, Health and Family Welfare Department, PK Mohapatra in an official letter to all Collectors, District Magistrates and all Municipal Commissioners stated that "The occupancy in TMCs and CCHs is virtually nil. Hence, these facilities should be immediately closed down."

Andhra Pradesh's fresh COVID-19 cases dip to 7,956, count crosses 5.75 lakh

Fresh COVID-19 cases in Andhra Pradesh slumped below the 8,000 mark after about three weeks on Monday, taking the tally to 5.75 lakh, but the number of tests too came down by more than 10,000.

As many as 9,764 patients got cured and discharged from hospitals, while 60 more died to the pandemic as the deaths mounted to 4,972, a government bulletin said.
Madhya Pradesh reports record 2,483 COVID-19 cases

Madhya Pradesh on Monday recorded the highest single-day spike of 2,483 coronavirus cases, taking the statewide count to 90,730, health officials said.

With 29 more fatalities, the deaths went up to 1,791, they said. Of them, five patient each died in Indore and Bhopal, four in Neemuch, three each in Gwalior and Jabalpur, two in Sagar and one each in Khargone, Morena, Betul, Rewa, Jhabua, Dewas and Tikamgarh, the officials said.

Also, 1,713 patients were discharged from hospitals, taking the count of recoveries in the state to 67,711, they said.
1,137 new COVID-19 cases, 1,966 more recoveries in Bihar

The COVID-19 recovery rate in Bihar rose to 90.91 per cent on Monday from 89.99 per cent just two days ago, with 1,966 more people having been cured of the disease in the state, a health department official said. 
The total number of recoveries currently stands 1,45,019, the official said.

At least 1,137 more people tested positive for COVID- 19 in the state, pushing the tally to 1,59,526.

Bihar, at present, has 13,675 active coronavirus cases, while 831 people have succumbed to the infection.

As many as 1,02,330 samples have been tested for COVID-19 since Sunday, raising the total number of such examinations to 49,86,747, the official added.
1,334 new COVID-19 cases in Gujarat

Gujarat on Monday reported 1,334 new COVID-19 cases, taking the total count of infections to 1,14,996, state health department said. 

At the same time, 1,255 patients were discharged after treatment in the day, taking the number of recoveries to 95,265, the department said in a release.

Gujarat's case recovery rate now stands at 82.84 per cent, it stated. A total of 71,507 tests were conducted in the last 24 hours, at the rate of 1,100.10 tests per day per million population.
Don't delay hospital admission: Goa Chief Minister tells people

Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Monday expressed worry over deaths due to COVID-19 infection in the state and appealed to people to not ignore symptoms.

"Get yourself tested, if there are signs. It is sad that people are brought in dead to hospitals," Mr Sawant said in a video message.

At 14, Goa on Monday reported its highest single-day deaths due to the infection.

Coronavirus: Delhi Reports 3,229 COVID-19 Cases, Total Count Crosses 2.21 Lakh

The national capital recorded 3,229 COVID-19 cases on Monday, taking the tally to over 2.21 lakh, while the deaths mounted to 4,770, authorities said. 
COVID-19: Goa BJP MLAs Tony Fernandes, Dayanand Sopte test positive

Goa BJP MLAs Antonio alias Tony Fernandes and Dayanand Sopte have tested positive for novel coronavirus infection, a senior state health department official said on Monday.

St Cruz MLA Fernandes is in a private hospital since Sunday while Mandrem legislator Sopte has opted for home isolation after exhibiting mild symptoms, the official said.

Over the past two months, several MLAs, including Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, were detected with the infection.
Ex-UP Chief Minister Kalyan Singh tests positive for coronavirus

Former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Kalyan Singh has contracted coronavirus and undergoing treatment at the Lucknow's Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences hospital, his grandson and state minister Sandeep Singh said on Monday.

The UP Technical and Medical Education disclosed this on his Twitter handle and prayed for the 88-year-old BJP leader''s recovery.

"I pray to Lord Ram for your speedy recovery. Our best wishes are with you," Sandeep tweeted referring to the former state chief minister.
2,540 COVID-19 cases, 15 more deaths in Kerala: Pinarayi Vijayan

Kerala reported 2,540 COVID-19 cases on Monday, taking the infection tally to 1,10,818, while 15 more deaths took the number up to 454, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said.

As many as 2,110 people recovered from the virus today and 30,486 people are presently under treatment for the infection, he told reporters. So far, 79,813 people have recovered.

Of the positive cases, 34 had come from abroad and 73 from other states, while 2346 people were infected through contact and the source of infection of 212 people was not known, he said.
141 new COVID-19 cases in Noida, tally climbs to 10,332

Uttar Pradesh's Gautam Buddh Nagar district on Monday recorded 141 new COVID-19 patients and the infection tally reached 10,332, official data showed.

The number of active cases stood at 1,979, down from 2,008 on Sunday, according to the data released by the UP Health department for a 24-hour period.

On the brighter side, 169 more patients got discharged during the period and the total number of recoveries in the district reached 8,305, the data showed.
Tripura's COVID-19 tally rises to 19,187 with 255 fresh cases

At least 255 more people tested positive for COVID-19 in Tripura on Monday, pushing the tally in the state to 19,187, a health department official said. The deaths have risen to 200 with six more fatalities, he said.

West Tripura district, which also comprises state capital Agartala, accounted for 110 of the coronavirus deaths, the official said.

The state now has 7,429 active cases, while 11,536 people have recovered from the disease, he said, adding, 22 patients have migrated to other states.
UP records 62 fresh coronavirus deaths, over 5,200 new cases

Uttar Pradesh recorded 62 COVID-19 deaths on Monday, while the number of cases went up by 5,208, taking the overall figures to 4,491 fatalities and 3,17,195 infections, officials said.

"The count of active COVID-19 cases in the state stands at 67,287, while 2,45,417 people have recovered till date," a heath bulletin issued here said.

The 62 fresh fatalities included eight from Lucknow, six from Kanpur, three each from Gorakhpur, Varanasi and Shahjahanpur, two each from Allahabad, Meerut, Deoria, Hardoi, Muzaffarnagar, Lakhimpur Kheri, Pilibhit, Sambhal and Farukhabad, it said.

Beds in COVID hospitals should be increased: Yogi Adityanath

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath directed officials on Monday to increase the number of beds in the COVID hospitals being run under the Health Department.

All the medical colleges and hospitals in Lucknow, Kanpur Nagar, Allahabad, Gorakhpur, Varanasi and Meerut have been asked to work at full capacity. The drug controller has been asked to make proper arrangements for medicines and oxygen in these districts, according to a statement.

In a meeting, Adityanath directed officials to increase the number of beds in the COVID hospitals of the Health Department. The chief minister also asked the KGMU, SGPGI and the RMLIMS hospitals in Lucknow to make arrangement for 1,000 beds, it said.
Might ease lockdown when daily COVID-19 cases fall to 1,000: Israel

Israel Health Ministry on Monday said that the government will consider easing the recently-announced nationwide lockdown when the daily coronavirus case count drops to 1,000.

Health Ministry Director-General Chezy Levy remarks come a day after the government approved the lockdown to begin from Friday for at least three weeks as cases in the country saw a sudden rise.

Over 60% active cases in 5 states; recovery rate touches 78%: Centre

More than 60 per cent of the active coronavirus cases are concentrated in the five states of Maharashtra, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Tamil Nadu, the Health Ministry said on Monday, underlining that the recovery rate in the country had touched 78 per cent.

India's COVID-19 case tally has mounted to 48.46 lakh with 92,071 new infections, while 37.80 lakh people have recuperated.

COVID-19: Rajasthan reports 793 new cases, 7 deaths

A total of 793 new COVID-19 cases and seven deaths were reported in Rajasthan in the past 24 hours. According to the state health department, the coronavirus tally for the state stands at 1,03,201.  There are 17,410 active cases in the state while 84,548 cases have recovered.

The country witnessed a spike of 92,071 new cases within 24 hours, taking the COVID-19 count over the 48-lakh mark on Monday, according to the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. 

Russia records 5,509 COVID-19 cases in last 24 hours

Russia has registered 5,509 COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours which brings the cumulative total to 1,068,320, the country's coronavirus response center said on Monday.

"Over the past 24 hours, Russia has confirmed 5,509 COVID-19 cases in 83 regions, of which 1,388 (25.2 percent) have been detected actively, with people showing no clinical symptoms," the response center said in a statement, adding that the total tally has reached 1,068,320.

Philippines reports another record spike in daily coronavirus deaths

The Philippines on Monday reported a record daily increase in new coronavirus deaths for the second time in three days, adding 259 more fatalities to bring the total to 4,630.

In a bulletin, the health ministry said the Southeast Asian country also recorded 4,699 newly-confirmed cases, taking its total infections to 265,888, the highest in the region.

Odisha BJP president Samir Mohanty tests positive for COVID-19

Odisha Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) State President Samir Mohanty has been admitted to All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Bhubaneswar after testing positive for COVID-19.

Mr Mohanty said on Monday that he got himself tested for the virus and the results were found positive. He added that he has been hospitalised and is currently undergoing treatment.

The BJP state president requested those who came in contact with him recently to isolate and get themselves tested.

"Due to symptoms of Corona, I went for the test and found positive. I am doing well, but as per the advice of doctors, I got hospitalised and under treatment. I request to all who have come in contact with me in past few days to kindly isolate and conduct test if necessary," he said in a tweet.

UK Reserves Up To 190 million Doses Of Potential Coronavirus Vaccines

Britain has secured access to up to 190 million doses of a potential coronavirus vaccine from Valneva in deal worth as much as 1.37 billion euros, the French-Austrian vaccine firm said Monday.

It had already been disclosed in July that the British government had reserved 60 million doses of Valneva's inactivated SARS-CoV-2 vaccine under development.

The firm said it expects to begin trials of the two-dose vaccine in December and if it is successful for it to become available in the second half of 2021.

The 60 million doses supplied to Britain in 2021 would come at a cost of 470 million euros ($557 million).

Britain will then have options on 40 million doses in 2022 and between 30 and 90 million across 2023 to 2025, which would cost 900 million euros.

"We are honoured to have been chosen by the UK Government and are eager to partner with them to address this terrible ongoing pandemic," Valneva CEO Thomas Lingelbach was quoted as saying in a statement.
India has been able to limit COVID-19 deaths to 55 per million population: Dr Harsh Vardhan

Owing to the nationwide efforts the COVID-19 related deaths have been limited to 55 per million population, said Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan on Monday.

Speaking in the Lok Sabha, the Union Minister also said that the cases per million population in the country have also been limited to 3,328 in the country.

"With our endeavour to manage COVID-19, India has been able to limit its cases and deaths to 3,328 cases and 55 deaths per million population respectively, which is one of the lowest in the world as compared to similarly affected countries," the Minister said.

Odisha reports 11 deaths, 4,198 more COVID-19 cases

Odisha has reported 4,198 new COVID-19 cases, 3,363 recoveries and 11 deaths as on September 13, according to the State Health Department on Monday.

With this, the total number of cases now stands at 1,55,005, said the Health Department.

There are 35,673 active cases, 1,18,642 recoveries and 637 deaths in the State.
Thane COVID-19 tally crosses 1.46 lakh

The number of COVID-19 cases in Thane has gone up to 1,46,102 after detection of 1,930 new cases in the Maharashtra district, officials said on Monday.

Besides, the number of COVID-19 deaths in the district has risen to 3,921 as 28 more people succumbed to the disease on Sunday, they said.

Out of the total COVID-19 cases, Kalyan town has so far reported more than 35,000 cases, while there have been over 30,000 cases each in Thane city and Navi Mumbai, a district official said.
COVID-19 effect: No formal study yet, but indications of major revenue loss, says tourism ministry

The Ministry of Tourism informed Parliament on Monday while no formal study has been conducted to assess the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the tourism sector, discussions with stakeholders have indicated that the sector has suffered a massive loss in revenue.

In a written reply in Lok Sabha, Tourism Minister Prahlad Patel said due to the fact that the sector is largely unorganised, the impact can be assessed only in due course.

"No formal study has been instituted for assessment of the impact on the tourism sector and job losses. However, several rounds of discussions and brainstorming sessions with industry stakeholders indicate massive loss of revenue, foreign exchange and jobs.

"In view of the highly unorganised nature of the sector, the impact in numerical terms can only be ascertained in due course," he said.
Puducherry adds 414 fresh COVID-19 cases, tally crosses 20k mark

Puducherry on Monday logged 414 new COVID-19 cases taking the overall tally past the 0,000 mark while nine people including four women succumbed to the virus, a top Health department official said.

The nine fatalities pushed the toll in the union territory to 394, Director of Health and Family Welfare S The new cases in the last 24 hours ending 10 am on Monday pushed the coronavirus number to 20,226 (after transfer of nine cases to Tamil Nadu).

Mohan Kumar said the 414 fresh infections were identified after examination of 3,742 samples, adding 308 were from the Puducherry region, 74 from Karaikal, 29 from Yanam and three from Mahe.

Seven more die of COVID-19 in Rajasthan, number of deaths reaches 1,243

Rajasthan recorded seven more fatalities due to the novel coronavirus on Monday, taking the number of deaths in the state to 1,243, the health department said.

The state also reported 793 fresh coronavirus cases.

The total number of people infected with the virus now stands at 1,03,201 in Rajasthan, out of these 17,410 are under treatment.

According to a health department bulletin, 83,114 people have been discharged after treatment till now.

Jaipur has recorded 301 deaths till now, followed by 121 in Jodhpur, 94 in Bikaner, 87 in Kota, 87 in Ajmer and 73 in Bharatpur, 48 in Pali, 44 in Nagaur, 35 in Udaipur, 31 in Alwar, 26 in Barmer and 23 in Dholpur.
October, November To Be "Tougher" With More COVID-19 Deaths: WHO Europe

The World Health Organization expects Europe to see a rise in the daily number of Covid-19 deaths in October and November, the head of the body's European branch told AFP on Monday.

"It's going to get tougher. In October, November, we are going to see more mortality," WHO Europe director Hans Kluge said, as the continent currently experiences a surge of cases though the number of deaths has remained relatively stable.

The resurgence is however expected to lead to an increase in daily deaths, the WHO said

Mizoram's COVID-19 tally rises to 1,428

Mizoram's COVID-19 caseload rose to 1,428 as 14 more people have tested positive for novel coronavirus in the last 24 hours, an official said on Monday.

Of the 14 new cases, 11 were reported from Aizawl district, two from Saitual and one from Kolasib district, the official said.

Eight out of the 14 cases were locally transmitted cases. The remaining six patients have come from outside the state.

The number of active COVID-19 cases in the state now is 598 as 830 people have recovered from the disease, the official said, adding that Mizoram has so far not reported any COVID-19 death.

Telangana adds 1,417 new COVID-19 cases; 13 deaths take number to 974

Telangana reported 1,417 new COVID-19 cases, pushing the overall infection tally to 1,58,513, while the number of deaths rose to 974 with 13 more fatalities.

Out of the 1,417 fresh cases, 264 were reported from the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), followed by Rangareddy (133), Karimnagar (108) and Sangareddy (107) districts, a state government bulletin said on Monday, providing data as of 8 pm on September 13.

The cumulative recovered cases stood at 1,27,007, while 30,532 were under treatment.
Israel to reimpose virus lockdown as WHO reports record cases

Israel said it will reimpose a national lockdown to battle a coronavirus surge, as the number of daily infections around the world reached a record high.

Britain, France, Austria and the Czech Republic also reported spikes, as global cases rapidly approached 29 million with more than 921,000 Covid-19 deaths, according to an AFP tally.

The Israel lockdown will last three weeks starting Friday, keeping people to within 500 metres (yards) of their homes. It is the first developed economy to take such drastic steps to contain a second wave of infections.

"I know these measures will exact a heavy price from all of us," said Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

New Zealand to lift coronavirus curbs in most of country on September 21

New Zealand will lift coronavirus restrictions across the country on September 21, except in its biggest city, Auckland, which is the epicentre of a second wave of infections, Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said on Monday.

Ardern said Auckland's restrictions would be reviewed next Monday. She also said the government would immediately ease all physical distancing requirements on planes, a boost for Air New Zealand, which has had to limit passengers on its planes for months.

The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Germany increased by 927 to 260,355, data from the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) for infectious diseases showed on Monday.

WHO reports record one-day increase in global coronavirus cases

The World Health Organization reported a record one-day increase in global coronavirus cases on Sunday, with the total rising by 307,930 in 24 hours.

The biggest increases were from India, the United States and Brazil, according to the agency's website. Deaths rose by 5,537 to a total of 917,417.

India reported 94,372 new cases, followed by the US with 45,523 new infections and Brazil with 43,718.

COVID-19: With 1,292 new cases, Assam's tally reaches 1,41,763

Assam recorded 1,292 COVID-19 cases on Sunday out of 15,515 tests done in the last 24 hours, said Himanta Biswa Sarma, Assam Health Minister.

Punjab reported 2,628 new COVID-19 cases and 68 deaths on Sunday, taking the total number of cases to 79,679 in the state, the health department said.

COVID-19: With 1,014 new cases, Jharkhand reports total 61,474 cases
Jharkhand reported 1,014 new COVID-19 cases, 1,509 recovered/ discharged cases and 11 deaths on Sunday, said the State Health Department.

The total cases in the state rose to 61,474 including 46,583 cases declared recovered and discharged and 555 deaths. Active cases stand at 14,336, according to the State Health Department.

Coronavirus: Only Packed Food In Parliament Canteen Dring Monsoon Session Amid Covid
Members of Parliament (MPs) will be given packed food in the canteen during the Monsoon session. This is among the several measures that are being taken in this session in the wake of the coronavirus.

In this context, a menu has been issued from the canteen of the Parliament. As per the menu, there will be different types of packed breakfast in the canteen for the MPs.

At the same time, they will be able to get 4 categories of packed lunch, which include vegetarian food, South Indian, non-vegetarian, and combo meal. In addition, hygiene will be taken care of in the canteen.

In the wake of coronavirus, hand sanitizer machines have been installed. Arrangements have been made to sanitise the canteen and its kitchen.

The Monsoon Session of the Parliament is scheduled to commence on Monday and is slated to conclude on October 1. There will be no question hour and private members' business during the monsoon session.
