Coronavirus: India reported 78,524 fresh COVID-19 cases today, taking the total number to 68.35 lakh. The country recorded 971 deaths in the last 24 hours, taking the death count to 1,05,526.
With over 75,000 people recovering from COVID-19 every day in India, the country's recoveries are 6.3 times more than active cases of coronavirus, according to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. The country has witnessed an exponential rise in the number of COVID-19 recoveries from 50,000 recoveries in May to over 57 lakh in October.
"India's COVID recoveries have witnessed a steep exponential rise - from 50,000 in May to over 57 lakh in October. A high level of more than 75,000 recoveries reported every day. Recoveries are 6.3 times the active cases (currently only 13.4 per cent of total cases)," the ministry tweeted.

With 1,278 new patients getting infected with coronavirus in the last 24 hours, Gujarat's tally went past 1.47 lakh on Thursday, the state Health Department said. A release by the Health Department said Gujarat's tally of positive cases went up to 1,47,951 with the addition of the new infections. Ten infected patients died across the state during this period, taking the toll to 3,541, said the release.
The number of coronavirus cases have gone up by 432 in Goa, taking the state's total count to 37,102 on Thursday. As many as seven more patients died due to the infection from the highly contagious virus, an official said.
A total of 10,704 new COVID-19 and 101 deaths were reported in Karnataka on Thursday. The total number of cases in the state have gone up to 6,79,356.
As many as 9,613 discharges were also reported in Karnataka.
"Karnataka reported 10,704 new COVID-19 cases, 9,613 discharges and 101 deaths today, taking total cases to 6,79,356 including 5,52,519 discharges and 9,675 deaths. The number of active cases stands at 1,17,143," State Health Department said.
A group of doctors in Kolkata have written to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, urging her to take stricter measures to restrict public gathering during Durga puja, as it might "lead to a tsunami" of infections.
Members of Joint Platform of Doctors referred to the steep rise in coronavirus cases in Kerala after the recent Onam festival, and a similar situation in Spain following International Women's Day celebrations and a football match to make their point.
"We saw that the number of infections in West Bengal went up after Mahalaya and Vishwakarma Puja. It's an alarming signal. We have also seen how the situation deteriorated after priority was given to emotions to organise Onam festival, neglecting health protocols in Kerala.
Twenty-nine more deaths due to coronavirus pushed total casulaties to 3,741, while the infection count reached 1,21,716 with 930 new cases in Punjab on Thursday.
Five deaths were reported from Faridkot, three each from Gurdaspur and Jalandhar, two each from Barnala, Ferozepur, Kapurthala, Ludhiana, Patiala and Rupnagar and one each from Amritsar, Fatehgarh, Sahib, Fazilka, Mansa, Pathankot and Tarn Taran, a health department medical bulletin said.
As many as 151 persons tested positive for coronavirus in Maharashtra's Amravati today. As many as 137 people recovered from the infection in the district.
With the addition of the latest cases, the district's COVID-19 caseload has reached 14,524, the official said. Apart from this, five patients died of the infection in the last 24 hours, taking the toll to 324, he said.
Uttar Pradesh recorded 3,376 new coronavirus patients today, taking the infection tally to 4,27,459 on Thursday. The day saw 45 more people losing the battle against the virus, taking total fatalities to 6,245, a health bulletin said.
