New Delhi: India logged 38,164 fresh coronavirus cases, 7.2% lower than yesterday, and 499 deaths in last 24 hours. The country has logged 3.11 crore cases so far and 4.14 lakh deaths.
India's test positivity rate (positive cases identified for every 100 tests) continues to decline. For the 28th straight day it is below the 5 per cent-mark.
The total vaccine doses administered has reached 40.64 crore under the nationwide vaccination drive.
Meanwhile, Australia's two largest cities are set to stay under tight Covid-19 restrictions as Melbourne on Monday extended a five-day snap lockdown designed to curb a virulent outbreak.
"These restrictions simply cannot end at midnight tomorrow night," Victoria state premier Daniel Andrews said, without saying how long the Melbourne lockdown would last.
About 12 million people are under lockdown in Melbourne and Sydney, where a month of restrictions has failed to quash an outbreak of the Delta variant, AFP reported.
