Coronavirus Highlights: India Records 50,129 Coronavirus Cases, 578 Deaths In 24 Hours

With 50,129 new COVID-19 cases, India's total coronavirus cases surged to 78,64,811 on Sunday, as per the Union Health Ministry. With 578 new deaths, the death count mounts to 1,18,534. The total number of active cases stands at 6,68,154 after a decrease of 12,526 in last 24 hours while total cured cases are 70,78,123 with 62,077 new discharges in last 24 hours, according to the Union Health Ministry.

With 1,40,702 total active cases, Maharashtra continues to be the worst affected state by COVID-19 in the country. While 14,55,107 patients have recovered from the disease in the state, 43,152 have died so far

Among other severely affected states, Karnataka has 86,768 active cases, while 7,00,737 people have recovered and 10,873 have succumbed to the coronavirus.

Bihar's COVID-19 Recoveries Cross 2-Lakh Mark
The number of COVID-19 patients, who have been cured of the disease in Bihar, crossed the two lakh-mark on Sunday with 1,399 fresh recoveries, according to a bulletin issued by the health department.

The total number of recoveries now stands at 2,00,920, it said, adding that the recovery rate among coronavirus patients in the state has improved to 94.69 per cent.

Over one crore samples have been tested for COVID-19 in the state, including 1,39,218 in the last 24 hours, it said.

At least 749 new cases were reported, taking the tally in the state to 2,12,191, the bulletin said.

The death count rose to 1,049 in Bihar after seven more people succumbed to the infection, it said.

All Citizens In Country Will Get Free COVID-19 Vaccine: Union Minister
Union Minister Pratap Sarangi on Sunday said that all people of the country will be given free COVID vaccine, amidst the demand by opposition parties in the country for it and not only in poll-bound Bihar as announced by the BJP.

The BJP announcement of free COVID vaccine for Bihar, where assembly polls begin this week, had kicked up a controversy with the opposition parties tearing into the NDA government alleging that the ruling party was using the pandemic for political reasons.

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman had said the announcement was in order as it was an election manifesto announcement.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced that all people will be provided free of cost vaccines. An estimated Rs 500 odd will be spent on vaccination of each person, Mr Sarangi told reporters after addressing a campaign meeting for the November 3 assembly by-poll in Balasore.

Delhi government prepared to tackle predicted rise in COVID-19 cases in upcoming festive, winter season: Health Minister Satyender Jain

The Delhi government is prepared to tackle the predicted rise in COVID-19 cases in the upcoming festive and winter season, Health Minister Satyender Jain said on Sunday.

Mr Jain's remark came after a high-level expert committee led by NITI Aayog member VK Paul had recently pointed out that hospitals in Delhi should prepare for 15,000 daily cases owing to a spike in respiratory illnesses with winter setting in along with COVID-19 cases.

"The expert committee had said that due to winter and festive season, cases (of coronavirus disease per day) can spike up to 12,000-14,000 but right now it is around 4,000 (per day) so the situation is contained.

"We are focused on containment, contact tracing and isolation to tackle the situation. We are completely cautious and prepared, "Mr  Jain told reporters.

Sikkim reports 16 new COVID-19 cases, one death

Sikkim has reported 16 new COVID-19 cases, taking the Himalayan state's tally to 3,835, an official said on Sunday.

One more COVID-19 death pushed the death toll to 64, the official said.

Of the 16 new cases, 14 were reported from East Sikkim and two from South Sikkim district, state Information Education and Communication (IEC) member Sonam Bhutia said.

Sikkim now has 246 active COVID-19 cases, while 3,443 patients have recovered from the disease and 82 patients have migrated to other states, Ms Bhutia said.

Delhi records 4,136 new COVID-19 cases, highest single-day spike in 38 days

The national capital on Sunday recorded 4,136 fresh COVID-19 cases, the highest single-day spike in 38 days, while the death toll mounted to 6,258, authorities said.

This is the third consecutive day when over 4,000 new cases have been reported in Delhi. On Saturday, 4,116 new cases were reported, on Friday, 4,086 new cases were recorded and 3,882 were reported a day before.

These fresh cases resulted from 49,069 tests conducted the previous day.

According to the latest health bulletin issued by the Delhi government, 4,136 fresh cases were reported on Sunday.

Tamil Nadu shows declining trend in COVID-19 case load; 2,869 new cases reported

Tamil Nadu continued to witness a declining trend in the number of daily coronavirus infections, reporting 2,869 fresh cases and 31 fatalities on Sunday and thereby pushing the tally to 7.09 lakh and death toll to 10,924.

COVID-19 cases have been on a decline in the state over the past few weeks.

On Saturday, the state registered less than 3,000 cases (2,886), a slide in the number of daily infections.

Meanwhile, the recoveries continued to outnumber new cases with 4,019 people walking out of health care institutions after getting cured of the virus, taking the aggregate to 6.67 lakh so far, the health department said in a bulletin.

The active cases in Tamil Nadu stood at 30,606.

Tamil Nadu Agriculture Minister tests positive for COVID-19, on ventilator support

Tamil Nadu Agriculture Minister R Doraikkannu, who was admitted to a private hospital here earlier this month after he complained of uneasiness, has tested positive for COVID-19 and is on life support, hospital officials said on Sunday.

The 72-year-old minister has been put on extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), a heart-lung assistance machine, and ventilator support, the officials of Kauvery Hospital said.

Tripura reports 86 new COVID-19 cases, three more deaths

At least 86 more people tested positive for COVID-19 in Tripura on Sunday, pushing the tally in the state to 30,221, a health department official said. 

The death toll rose to 340 after three more patients succumbed to the infection, he said.

West Tripura district, of which state capital Agartala is a part, accounted for 178 of the 340 COVID-19 deaths, the official said.

Tripura currently has 1,995 active coronavirus cases, while 27,863 people have recovered from the disease. Twenty- three patients have migrated to other states, he said.

111 fresh cases of COVID-19 reported in Nagaland

Nagaland reported 111 new positive cases of COVID-19, said S Pangnyu Phom, Nagaland Health and Family Welfare Minister on Sunday.

Nagaland Health and Family Welfare Minister said that out of total cases reported today, Dimapur reported 50 new cases while Kohima reported 29 cases of coronavirus. 23 people were tested positive in Mon while Kiphire recorded six new cases of the infection. Mokokchung, Peren and Wokha reported one case each of coronavirus.

The Minister added that 55 people recovered from the viral disease. Kohima recorded 27 recoveries while 15 people recovered in Dimapur from COVID-19. Meanwhile, five people recovered each from Mon and Tuensang and Peren reported three recoveries.

Coronavirus: 57 new cases in Amravati, 66 recover

Amravati district in Maharashtra reported 57 new coronavirus positive cases, which took its tally to 15,957, officials said.

No death due to the infection was reported during the day, the district civil surgeon office said.

A total of 66 patients were discharged, which took the  recovery count in the district to 14,674, it added.

With this, the recovery rate has gone up to 91.96 per cent, it said.

The pandemic has so far claimed 358 lives in Amravati.

Coronavirus cases in the Netherlands hit new record, up by more than 10,000

The number of coronavirus infections in the Netherlands jumped by more than 10,000 in 24 hours, hitting a new record, data released by the National Institute for Public Health (RIVM) on Sunday showed.

The RIVM reported 10,203 confirmed cases of COVID-19.

The Dutch government imposed partial lockdown measures to contain the spread of the virus on Oct. 14, including the closure of all bars and restaurants in the country.

88 prisoners cured of COVID-19 in Jammu district jail

Eighty-eight prisoners, who were earlier tested positive for COVID-19, have recovered in the district jail in Amphalla here, bringing down the number of active cases in the prison to four, a senior official said on Sunday.

There is no positive case among the jail staff, Amphalla District Jail Superintendent Mirza Saleem Ahmad Beig told PTI.

He said the final testing of 92 positive prisoners and 24 new admissions was undertaken on Sunday.

"We are happy to announce that out of the total population of 635 inmates, only four inmates are positive now," he said, expressing confidence of keeping the disease at bay with the cooperation of the staff and prisoners by following the set guidelines and Standard Operating Procedures strictly.

Andhra Pradesh reports 2,997 new cases of coronavirus, 21 deaths in last 24 hours

Andhra Pradesh reported 2997 new cases of COVID-19 in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of cases in the state to 8,07,023 on Sunday.

According to a media bulletin released by Andhra Pradesh COVID nodal officer, In the last 24 hours, 67419 samples are tested in Andhra Pradesh. Of them, 2997 are detected COVID positive. With this, total cases in Andhra Pradesh increase to 807023. Of them, 30860 are active cases.

In the past 24 hours, 3585 persons have recovered, while the total recovered cases in the state are 769576.

Puducherry reports 83 new COVID-19 cases, 2 deaths

As many as 83 new positive cases of COVID-19 cases reported in Puducherry taking the total cases in Union Territory to 34,193, said UT Health and Welfare Department on Friday.

According to the UT Health and Welfare Department, two people died due to coronavirus infection taking the death toll to 588.

Meanwhile, 187 people have been discharged. The UT has recorded 29,801 recoveries while there are 3,804 active cases of the viral disease.

2,052 fresh COVID-19 cases take UP's tally to 4,70,270; number of deaths rises to 6,882

The COVID-19 death toll in Uttar Pradesh rose to 6,882 on Sunday with 28 more fatalities, while 2,052 fresh cases pushed the infection tally to 4,70,270, an official said.

"In past 24 hours, 2,052 fresh cases were reported while 2,368 patients were discharged in the same period.

"The number of active cases has now come down to 27,317 and the number of those getting discharged from hospitals after recovery stands at 4,36,071," Additional Chief Secretary (Health) Amit Mohan Prasad said.

The recovery rate of the state has gone up to 93.72 per cent, he said.
The total number of cases in the state has reached 4,70,270.
