'Correct mistakes or I will end up going to Lok Sabha alone': Mulayam Singh Yadav to son Akhilesh

Mulayam has often resorted to reprimanding the state government, since his son Akhilesh assumed power last year.

Lucknow: The Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav has once again attacked his son Akhilesh Yadav's government in Uttar Pradesh, warning it of serious consequences if mistakes are not corrected.

Refusing to elaborate on the 'mistake', the veteran leader of the party said, "I am warning Akhilesh Yadav and other ministers that they should correct their mistakes."

To which he added on a lighter note, "Otherwise only I will end up going to the Lok Sabha alone." He was speaking at an event in Lucknow.

The 73-year-old leader has often resorted to reprimanding the state government, since his son Akhilesh assumed power last year.

The popularity ratings of 40-year-old Akhilesh Yadav is at a low these days with his government facing the allegation of inaction during the Muzaffarnagar communal clashes last month, which killed over 60 and displaced 45,000 people.

The clashes seriously compromised the position of the Samajwadi Party in Uttar Pradesh, which relies on its Muslim supporters.

Mulayam Singh last week said he has been invited to a meeting on October 30 to discuss a joint fight against 'communal forces', but refused to reveal names of other parties who would participate.

"People are watching those in power.  I appeal to voters that they should not punish the party in elections for any mistakes of the state government," the senior Yadav said.

Last week, Mr Yadav said a third front will come into power after the general elections, due by May next year, as neither the Congress nor the BJP would win enough seats to form a government.
