Patiala:
Police remand of extradited Babbar Khalsa militant Jagtar Singh Tara was today extended by three days after he was produced in a Patiala court following completion of his five-day custody.
Amid tight security, police produced Tara, who was sentenced to life imprisonment in the then Chief Minister Beant Singh's assassination case, in the court of Judicial Magistrate Jagmeet Singh after his five-day custody ended today.
Defence lawyer Barjinder Singh Sodhi said that the police asked for nine-day extension of Tara's custody, claiming that the militant has confessed to have hidden some quantity of explosives near India-Nepal border.
Police said that Tara was carrying the explosives when he fled to Nepal after the Chandigarh's Burail Jail break.
The militant was brought to India by a team of Punjab Police after being extradited from Bangkok on January 16.
Tara and his accomplices Paramjit Singh Bheora, Jagtar Singh Hawara and Dev Singh were arrested after Beant Singh's murder.
But Tara had escaped from jail in 2004 along with Hawara, Bheora and Singh. Hawara and Bheora were later arrested but Tara and Dev Singh reportedly fled to Pakistan. Dev Singh is believed to be still living in Pakistan.
Tara left for Thailand after hiding in Pakistan for many years.
