Court to Hear Cancellation Plea on Gopal Kanda's Bail

Court to Hear Cancellation Plea on Gopal Kanda's Bail
New Delhi: The Delhi High Court will today hear the cancellation of bail of former Haryana minister Gopal Goyal Kanda, who is accused of abetting the suicide of an air hostess employed with his aviation company in 2012.

The High Court had granted bail to the 48-year-old Mr Kanda on March 4, while observing that he was in judicial custody since August 2012.

Geetika Sharma, working with Mr Kanda's MDLR Airlines, was found dead on August 5, 2012 at her Ashok Vihar residence in northwest Delhi. In her suicide note, the 23-year-old had said she was ending her life due to "harassment" by Mr Kanda and his close aide, Aruna Chadha.

Ms Chadha was arrested on August 8, 2012. Mr Kanda surrendered before the police ten days later. The High Court granted bail to Ms Chadha in February.

Mr Kanda and Ms Chadha have been charged with abetment of suicide, criminal conspiracy, forgery and offences under the IT Act for hacking computers and sending offensive or false messages. Both the accused have denied the allegations.

Earlier this month, the former Haryana minister launched his own political party, Haryana Lokhit Party, saying the outfit would work to end "dynasty rule, casteism and regionalism in politics."
