The CPM today described as hysterical West Bengal Food Minister Jyotipriya Mullick's provocative remark that CPM was the "worst political party" and its members should be treated like snakes.
At a party meeting in Bengal's North 24 Parganas district yesterday, Mr Mullick, a Trinamool Congress leader, had said: "What will you do to a snake if it sneaks into your room? Similar treatment should be meted out to the CPM."
His comment echoed a similar remark made by Trinamool MP Subhendu Adhikary last month in East Midnapore district. Mr Adhikary had asked Trinamool workers to socially boycott CPM leaders and treat them like snakes.
Mr Mullick said the CPM was the "worst political party". "Its leaders have to be smeared with black paint as the people have rejected them," he said.
He said CPM leaders should not hold party meetings as "the people may beat them up". "We have nothing to do in the event of that happening. The people will not spare them if they commit any excess," he said.
The minister even said CPM leaders Prakash Karat, Sitaram Yechury and former West Bengal chief minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee should be boycotted.
