Burdwan (West Bengal): Two CPM leaders have been hacked to death in West Bengal's Burdwan district, allegedly by Trinamool Congress activists.

The incident took place today afternoon. Alleged Trinamool activists attacked a CPM rally in Burdwan district's Dewandihi area, leading to the death of former CPM MLA Pradip Ta on the spot. Another CPM leader Kamal Gayne succumbed to his injuries on way to hospital.

The attack happened after angry exchanges over posting of flags by the CPM in support of February 28 strike. Reports say CPM took down Trinamool flags and posted theirs. Both leaders died of head injuries on way to hospital.

Tension had been brewing in the area since Sunday's mega rally by the CPM in Kolkata.

Many people have been admitted to hospital with serious injuries.
