Kolkata: A CPM leader's son was shot dead at Burnpur stadium in West Bengal's Burdwan district today. Police say, the victim, Arpan Mukherjee, had gone for a jog in the morning at around 5 when the miscreants shot him.
Son of former CPM MLA and Mayor of Asansol, Bamapada Mukherjee, the victim was involved in the construction business. Police suspect that he may have been a victim of business rivalry.
The incident has sparked tension in Burnpur area, where public buses have gone off the road.
Being the son of a former party MLA, the CPM considers Arpan Mukherjee to be one of the party members. To protest against the killing, the party has threatened to call a 12-hour bandh on Friday, if police fails to make any arrests.
